It wouldn’t bother me as account sales would be clearly logged so it’d minimise the chance of somebody buying a high profile account and using it for a scams.

I just don’t think it’s something theymos will ever allow though. It’s a bit tacky isn’t it, to buy an account and use it to post. People will always associate it with the previous owner.

I understand why people may buy one to use it for signature campaign earnings. It is very hard to rank up an account from Newbie to Legendary to maximise earnings. I just don’t think it’s wise to encourage account sales so they will probably always exist as a Black Market type thing.

I am not buying it.

If someone buys an account, even if it is “official,” this will be reflected in one way or another in the account profile. If it has a lot of positive feedback, you cannot trust that the buyer will be reliable in deals, so, it deserves a tag.

It sounds like you're selling off your 13 years of hard work, including trust and connections, and that's exactly what the community doesn't like. If someone wants these things from you, they'd rather keep it secret because we all know the consequences.

A neutral tag should be the most you can do since account sales are allowed.

I'm also considering the scenario of clearing accounts if the account sales implicitly supported with having a dedicated thread. Imagine someone pretending their account was sold to cleanse their sins. Since an account transfer means a new owner personally, if DT members has to remove their (+)tags from the account, it must also remove (-)tags.

If an account is sold, its value should be equal to a newbie.   What are you selling anyway?   A method of making money that was offered to you because of your experience on the forum.     Take you away, and your account is now fraudulent unless everyone knows it is no longer you.    

If you want to leave the internet and relax, use your experience to create something with value and sell that.  If you need cash for diabetes (I'm sorry if that's the case but luckily within a few years you'll be able to manufacture it at home cheaply) there is no shame in a respectable member asking for help - soon you will be the most recognized member!   You've always trusted Oggy - maybe he can donate a few of his stolen coins?

This topic is going to continue as prices rise and people age.  We have to unite in our agreement that the value in a bitcointalk account is in the poster.  Get rid of the poster, get rid of any value.

What's the point of buying an account if not for cheating? Scamming others, cheating in sig campaigns, pretending you are someone else, etc.

I see not a single positive thing in buying an account if you don't want to do any shady business with it.

When purchased accounts are discovered, you can see a change in posting style, from that of a professional to someone who, as a newbie, applies for signature companies and writes nonsense. The same will happen with an account that is legally sold. It's quite difficult to maintain individuality.
Besides, why would anyone buy an account that everyone will know about? Is it easier to detect? That's the last thing the buyer needs. Currently, alternative accounts carefully hide their first or fifth accounts, even without breaking the rules, but here we're talking about an account that can be purchased, but everyone will know about it.

BTW if I simply opened the account in 2012 and read and hodl a few dozen coins. I think 9 bucks a coin was the lowest I  could have got.

BTW hodl turned out to be the best for btc. So keep it in hodl mode about merits and account sales.

What about stolen accounts? Are you suggesting that thieves be allowed to sell such accounts too?

Keep the mark for 5 years or 10 years.

Forever! And after each resale, information is added (with the date, link to the topic \ post, and the seller \ buyer's name).

At a minimum, this will bring account sales within the forum's legal framework. Also, a percentage of the sale proceeds should be transferred to the forum wallet as a commission.

What should be done with old \ previous account posts? All posts shape the image of the previous account owner as a specific person. When an account owner changes, all past posts will have no bearing on the new owner, and sometimes some statements may even be completely different from the new user's new posts. What should be done about this? Should all previous posts by the previous owner be deleted after the account is sold?

I would not want my statements to be associated with another person or vice versa.
