I depends on the market, for most situations and economies it would be enough just to pay them fairly according to their level of responsibility and hours worked.
Also, if one as boss is able to provide them with some benefits, like a good health insurance, that will definitely take an important role on keeping them within the company. Though, I can understand that not all companies are big enough to other those benefits to their employees at the beginning, so dont be surprise you cannot retain your employees at first.

You should also look for what employees expect by taking a look at their linkedin profiles, according to whatever industry you want to get yourself into.

What I'm thinking is that when we run a business and it's going well, and at some point we might need other workers, we have to find workers. To retain them, of course, we have to provide them with comfortable conditions that don't harm others or ourselves.

But there are times when workers are attracted to other jobs, whether because of higher wages or because it's their right. We can still find other workers who ask, and besides, I think there are many people who need work.
