One thing I have noticed is that Nigerians don't like creating a website for their business. There is this popular misconception among us that websites are for big or established businesses. Or that there are types of business you create a website for. This is not entirely true. I get it that you can't create a website for a provision store business, but as long as you have a product or service you are selling, you can have a website.

Many times, I see big hotels, supermarkets, or schools without a website. That's not progressive at all.
Some people have been selling sneakers for over 5 years, and they are known by many people as the sneakers guy and are very trusted, yet, no website. Some don't even bother about online presence. So many kinds of businesses that we don't need a website can actually have a webpage. Baking or catering business, cleaning services, and many more.

It doesn't have to be a big website. Sometimes a landing page alone is enough. On the page, you can have pictures and descriptions of your services and a link to your business's Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account. You can also include your business phone number there. If you have a shop or office, you can include the address and a link so Google Maps can direct the person from anywhere they are to your shop.
If you like and can afford it, you can get a slightly bigger website with 3-5 pages with proper SEO. You may not make money right away from this, but if you're consistent and always update it, you can create awareness or generate leads.

Aside from the money aspect, a website makes your business look more professional. It's also easier for people to know about you, your product or service when they see a website.
Make research on how to go about it, understand it, even if you will hire a professional. There are also a lot of AI tools and content management tools these days that can help you create your website in a day if you cant afford a professional. Just spend time and research.

You are right it is important to for an institution to have an official webpage due to the fact that we are in a digital era. This web should give me overview of what your product are and services you are rendering without me asking anyone I should be able to tell what you do and how to go about it if i’m interested in it.

Secondly I also feel institutions should include payments gateways on the website where payment can be made easily. Well, most higher institutions have adopted this and it’s make payments easy and record keeping intact.

Lastly if you want to grow you need to move with the current age thread and technology if not you will be left out outdated and your business might not work as you’ll want fit to be.

The writer's point is Nigerians often think websites are only for big businesses, but that's a misconception! Any business with a product or service can benefit from a website, even a simple landing page. It boosts professionalism, visibility, and can generate leads. Examples: bakeries, cleaning services, or local shops can showcase their work, share contact info, and reach more customers. Don't wait – create a website and level up your biz!

it surprises me too see such businesses running without having an official website, creating or developing a website isn't difficult so I thimk they reason they don't use it is because they don't know the importance of it. Without having a website it means that you are limiting your business to just the people in your location, people that are far would not be able to make enquiries. Having a website comes with a lot of advantages, this is one way to grow a business easily.

Most Nigerian businesses are holding themselves back because they think websites are unnecessary or too difficult, when in reality even a small, simple website can improve visibility, trust, and long-term growth.
