I still remember some names from the day when I joined this forum. One name I still remember strongly was "Ratimove". And as far as I remember, he used to add useful topics to his thread (I think his thread name was 'Encyclopaedia CMIIW'!) so that newbies could get useful information in a quick way, but sadly we lost that gem, and he passed away. He used to distribute merits to useful topics so that newbies stay motivated and keep coming up with good information after their research.

I opened Bitcointalk some days ago, and then I opened my PM, and then one message caught my attention where I saw that 1miau is also no more. That makes me feel really sad. Like, I have worked with that person; I have translated some of his topics in my local community thread. He was a great user.

We have lost some other good users here as well, like lightworrior and o_e_l_e_o, they both were active users and a great asset for the bitcointalk community. If I talk about my local thread members, then I would say I miss some users there as well. Other than this, some are getting old, and this is life.

I personally feel that now there are many fewer non-gambling projects, and the number of gambling projects is dominating the service section these days, and there are many users who don't like and want to promote gambling projects due to their own preferences, and when there were more non-gambling projects, users used to contribute more actively on bitcointalk. This is just my point of view, and that can be wrong. How many of you guys agree and disagree with me? Maybe this can be the reason users are losing their interest on Bitcointalk. Is that possible? CMIIW!

Why have you forgotten Satoshi himself? Is it possible to simultaneously talk about those who left the forum due to their own circumstances or those who died? It probably goes without saying that this is what life is all about. Some come, and some go. Your question should be followed up. Yes, we are losing, so what should we do next?

Life moves on, with or without us. Interests and priorities change, just as in real life, it's the human condition.

When the subject of buying BTC with Paypal comes up, I often remember this:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Ratimov was a great guy then, he has strong knowledge of Bitcoin and privacy but his problem started when he was accused of plagiarism or  so at some stages of his growth in the forum, which was not cool for a person of that level. He may be involved in some other things which compounded his problem but I still feel he was a great guy whose love for humanity was large, he help many lower ranked members a lot irrespective of their race and color.

I did not interact with Leo much and I had to take note of him when he wrote about his situation and exit from the forum, that was when I had to go through his posts, sincerely he was a great asset to this forum and was loved by many.

Finally, the ban of mixers might have contributed to the exit of some Bitcoin/privacy enthusiasts because Bitcoin without privacy defeats the core purpose of Bitcoin.

Ratimov had his nickname changed to Symmetrick, went kinda nuts, started name calling, deleted every post he could, backed out of a sponsorship, and eventually was banned. He single-handedly destroyed his reputation and left.

Valuable members will come and go. That is life. Where were are all living, it also happens like that. Something will always separate us.

Ratimov had his nickname changed to Symmetrick, went kinda nuts, started name calling, deleted every post he could, backed out of a sponsorship, and eventually was banned. He single-handedly destroyed his reputation and left.
He called himself on his personal text as a margin holder. Who knows he hold bitcoin or some altcoins with 2 to 5x and the coin pumped, become millionaire from it and see this forum not useful for him anymore? Or I think Chipmixer was no more before he left, the money he was later receiving might be too small and see it not worth what he is posting. People like you on this forum are less than 1%.

He was pressured at the time and all can make him do what he did. Also we do not know what went underneath that is not revealed to us. He was a great member. I did not like him before when he was only sending merit to only Russians but he later changed as his merit allocation increased.

The forum is like a military barack where soldiers comes and goes and the barrack remains the same because change is constant in life. Many of us present in the forum currently, we definitely leave the forum someday, but there will be people to continue running the forum and keep it active.

Satoshi has gone into thin air, but bitcoin development is ongoing. The most important thing is to be nice and build trust with people you're interacting with in everything you do.

Do you miss one of the biggest plagiarists in the history of this forum?

~snip~
He single-handedly destroyed his reputation and left.

Do you think he had any reputation before he decided to destroy himself as you say? When the evidence of his creativity was presented, which consisted of translating articles with online translators and hiding the source in as little visible hyperlinks as possible, he continued as if nothing had happened only because he had the support of the most numerous local community and their moderators.

When the OP says that Rat was a valuable member, I wonder if he lives in some parallel world where some known facts are not available.

Yes he had, isn't that obvious? He was in a high paying signature campaign, earned tons of Merit, and got away with plagiarism because of what I like to call a loophole: placing a link under a long text was enough to avoid getting banned.

My guess: his ego couldn't handle being called out. But that's just a guess.

He managed to fool most of the forum, that's definitely true. When he first appeared on Meta to boast about earning 1000 merits, everyone wondered who this guy was, considering he was a product of his local board. All these "successes" were nothing more than a very good deception that 99% of the forum members fell for - I was not one of them.

My guess: his ego couldn't handle being called out. But that's just a guess.

My guess is that he decided to burn one account and continue with a bunch of other alts that he probably created - he was a classic leech who was here for the money - if you don't believe me, ask those who organized various contests.

Are we losing our Valueable members?
Life continues, time continues to turn, Bitcoin continues to develop, there is life and there is death, that is what every living creature on planet Earth feels.

New lives keep coming and going and so do they like o_e_l_e_o, Ratimove, 1miau, they are humans with limitations, including us today who are still here, I don't know how long it will last here, the point is that nothing is eternal, only the beautiful memories of the Bitcoin experience that it leaves behind, all of that will become history on this forum.

I remember Ratimove and I think I read his thread, his absence and that of the other important member are missed till today because I have read the comments of some member too, they sometimes mention other old member that they admired so much but are no more on the forum. Some of these members are dead as you have thought but some of them that left are still alive but have moved on with other priority. You should be familiar with how things like this are very possible on the internet space and forum like this, even in the next 20 years to comes, it's possible that some other members could also have left the forum.

Sure, we are losing good members all the time, simply because people are getting older or they have other priorities.

Ratimov had his nickname changed to Symmetrick, went kinda nuts, started name calling, deleted every post he could, backed out of a sponsorship, and eventually was banned. He single-handedly destroyed his reputation and left.
It looks like bbvious account suicide, but I remember there were claims from other members who said he already sold his account before that, and the new owner was someone else.
I don't know for sure if this is true or not, but there were some indications in that direction when I was checking that case.

I know that death is very unfortunate but it is obvious that based on the huge number of members we have here, some may have to face death. It might sound harsh but that is the way life is and we have to embrace it that way.

We have lost some other good users here as well, like lightworrior and o_e_l_e_o, they both were active users and a great asset for the bitcointalk community. If I talk about my local thread members, then I would say I miss some users there as well. Other than this, some are getting old, and this is life.

I'll explain this for you using the life cycle of suckers. A mature plantain produces fruit and after harvest it gradually withers and produces an offshoot which performs the same cycle again and again. in short, life is a cycle, quality poster will come and go, interestingly, other quality posters will emerge. Life goes on!

So don't consider it as a loss, it's meant to be. I bet we still have good posters everywhere across the forum: @LoyceV, d5000, BlackHatCoiner, lovesmayfamilis, dkbit98, NotATether, Pmalek, ABCbits, pooya87, NeuroticFish, powerglove, JayJuanGee, fillippone, Charles-Tim, Apogio, Mia Chloe, TryNinja, DdmrDdmr, vapourminer, gmaxwell, Rikafip, ChiBitCTy, Cricktor, hosemary, Free Market Capitalist, notocactus, nutildah, GazetaBitcoin, Vod, etc, I could go on and on.

So let's not duel in the past, we better focus on managing the present and the future.

Unfortunately, the reality is much worse. These users didn't simply quit bitcointalk, but, as far as we know, they are probably looking at us from above, hopefully smiling with us, seeing us arguing about insignificant stuff.

But, don't worry! We're still around and we'll continue being around, as long as this forum keeps giving us fun moments Smiley

All living must eventually die, that's a fact. I can recall two prominent members that was pronounced dead this year. I know 1Miau to be precise and I was shocked by his sudden forum exit.

There could be more than 10 or even more deaths considering this is a global forum. However, there were members before me and there are more coming even if active members are not here again. As long as Bitcoin lives, Bitcointalk will exist. It might not be in the way it used to but definitely will continue, perhaps even better than our version.

One name I still remember strongly was "Ratimove".

The correct name is Ratimov, but later changed to Symmetric.

And as far as I remember, he used to add useful topics to his thread (I think his thread name was 'Encyclopaedia CMIIW'!) so that newbies could get useful information in a quick way, but sadly we lost that gem, and he passed away.

After he left, other members took their time to create something similar and we have them like:

Guides for beginners
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5275357.0

He used to distribute merits to useful topics so that newbies stay motivated and keep coming up with good information after their research.

There are many other generous merit givers too on the forum, they may not be many or in the position of giving as you may expect, because everyone has his own method of merit distribution to worthy post, am not just happy to hear that a merit source like him ended that way.

I opened Bitcointalk some days ago, and then I opened my PM, and then one message caught my attention where I saw that 1miau is also no more.

Am just hearing this for the first time, quickly run a check on his profile and saw that it was true, he is just a nice guy together with the likes of o_e_l_e_o

One name I still remember strongly was "Ratimove". And as far as I remember, he used to add useful topics to his thread (I think his thread name was 'Encyclopaedia CMIIW'!) so that newbies could get useful information in a quick way, but sadly we lost that gem, and he passed away.
Ratimov had his nickname changed to Symmetrick, went kinda nuts, started name calling, deleted every post he could, backed out of a sponsorship, and eventually was banned. He single-handedly destroyed his reputation and left.

He made some good contributions to the forum... but i dont undertand how moderators allowed him to freely plagiarize so many posts for so long without any consequence.... clearly farming merits and reputation with other people's work..

Probably most users didnt even notice that most of his good posts were plagiarism.

Maybe he is still among us with another account.

One thing I know is that in life there is no permanence, people come and go, just like they usually say that soldiers go and come but the barrack remains, the forum is still in good shape regardless of how many good or reputable people leave it every day but have it in mind that just like child birth rate is higher than death rate on a daily basis, so it is in the forum. Every single day a good poster comes in, but it’s always hard to identify them until a time when they make good reputations like the people you think left the forum. You can see for yourself that new good posters emerge everyday.
