Why blame merit sources for low merit circulation instead of blaming low post quality?

The both sides are also to be blame, especially the merit sources, Even the low post quality is even earning merit more than quality posters, sometimes I wonder how they got their merit,

It is a problem with multiple factors to account for. I think there's actually an oversupply of merit now and an extreme lack of good posts by new users.

To be honest merit is not oversupply right now in the forum, i don't even know were the merit is entering after theymos added more sources...even the users that we think is posting low quality are earning merit often, does it mean their's a merit club here,

I think if each merit sources concentrate on the board approved to be merit, it will be easier to know why merit is not in circulation, And every merit will be easily monitored.

There are merit sources who give selectively;
There are merit sources whose standards are high to be met by just a good poster;
I doubt there is a successful replacement of o_e_l_e_o and 1maiu;

Poor post quality cannot be an excuse for why a merits source fails to share its monthly allocation of merits. If you are a merit source who actively browses the forum and has, say, 500 merits every month, is it a problem to find 10 quality posts and reward each one with 50 merits?

I don't consider myself a super poster, but I'm not in the classic shitposter category, and yet if it weren't for the guys from WO, I think I'd often be without sMerits. Sometimes I don't get a single merit in ten days of active posting, so I wonder if there are any merit sources on the forum at all.

I don't have that many merit points dropped on my profile but I see my duty as a merit source to rewardd new posters so they can rank up. I glance over posts from a legendary poster more easily because they don't need my merits. So yes, a lack of good posts by new users can actually be an issue. Merit is not that meaningful if it becomes a circle jerk.

From our side we can do a better job maintaining threads about highlighting good posts without merits.

I don't think I'm known for being super selective (or selective, according to someone) when handing out merits.
I think I try to lean on the original effort-based concept of merit, rather than the value-based concept.
I try to deplete my merit stash consistently, and when I see a valuable post, I can recognise it and act accordingly.
Just bear in mind that the forum is wide, and it's challenging to read posts across the whole forum.

The page only shows the top 50 merit senders (for the past 30 days), so there will always be merit sources that will not be included the list.

This shows that the Merit Source in the list below does not distribute the Merit because it does not find a good thread or post or indeed the Merit to be hoarded or for personal collection 

You cannot rely on that as a metric to judge who is distributing their merits effectively.

I also don't think it's fair to say that. Anyone can check their current merit distribution with BPIP, but as you and the others have said, it's hard to judge because there's a lot of factors to consider.

I assume you try to find good posts and deplete your sMerits (which is good!). Since you've earned a lot of merits recently, you made it to the list naturally.

Yes, maybe they don't need merits but most Legendary members also help to distribute merits among new quality posters across the entire forum which means it helps the merit circulation even though they aren't a part of merit sources.

That's your problem (and that of some other merit sources) because you claim that there are no good posts on the forum and you ask someone to show them to you as if you're not capable of finding them yourself. It's not a problem, I'm fine with "only" distributing 666 Merits in the past 30 days. It's not a paid job, it's a volunteer thing, and I'm not going to read posts just to see if they're good. I read posts because I want to read them.

Different merit sources have different criteria to grade as quality posts and there is no right or wrong way here as long as the merit source is not selling them for monetary benefits. Theymos suggested merit sources to exhaust the source merits over hoarding them but again it's voluntary job and if admin think that the merit source is doing a shitty job as being a merit source then he can remove them at any time that is why some of them were removed and new ones were added.

From what i have observed, majority of the new merit sources are trying their best, probably they still needed more time to factor out more strategies for the distribution, each individual may device or they needed more allocation to what they are being given, however, as it has been also suggested, members should also step up in their bid for quality post, because all these will also count, they cant be meriting post that are not convincing to them for merit.

Better to have low number of merit sources who are active than have tons of them who are answering merit sources but are inactive. It's a good thing that Theymos removed many inactive sources during the last time he approved new ones, at least there are more distribution of merits now than it was in the past. It's been a while i see many people complaining of merits again unlike when the Meta board was rampaged by lots of threads about low merit circulation.

I have even gone weeks to a month without a merit that I started questioning myself if people were actually seeing my post. This accounts to the reason I am stocked in the Snr member rank for so long. If not for a few days now that I have started seeing favour from a few individuals including fillippone.

Merits is like a river wave, if you are not on its lane, it will not touch you. I wonder if some merit sources who have some unspent smerits could finish meriting a post and get curious to check the person's post history to know if they deserve a few more merits.

I just learned from this topic the number of merit sources in this forum and the monthly smerits available with them. Honestly I am completely new with any kind so such statistics.

My second question is whether 88 merit sources generating (is that distributing?) just over 30k merits per month cutting it?  That seems low relative to the number of members we've got here.

I guess that 30k would be more than sufficient because roughly this 30k may get recursively used as (30+15+7+3+1+0.5) ~56k because 2 merits are again creating one smerit.

I am not saying every receiver is again spending on another good post but there are potential for this 30k to trigger the merit movements as double as it (roughly).
