8 Years in Crypto Gambling: Are Any OGs Still Here?

This Christmas marks the eighth one since we started NewCryptoCasinos.com.
Honestly, it still feels unreal that eight years have passed since we published our very first crypto casino review.

I remember that first Christmas clearly, writing the review on Christmas Day, while everyone else was opening presents. No hype, no audience, just a belief that crypto gambling was about to become something much bigger. A lot has happened since then, so here’s our story in short.

2018–2019: The Early Days

We launched in February 2018. Back then, there were only a handful of crypto casinos to work with. The games were basic, UX was rough, and trust was always a question mark.

People used to ask why we chose the name NewCryptoCasinos.com. My answer was always the same:

“Crypto gambling will grow faster than any other vertical in gambling. In a few years, new crypto casinos will be one of the hottest searches.”

Turns out, that wasn’t a bad bet.

2020: Things Took Off

Everything accelerated in 2020. We went from working with a few operators to hundreds, and the quality jump was massive. Real slots, serious providers, smoother payments,  no more “just Plinko and dice.”

2020 was also when blockchain culture really started to go mainstream. When Decentraland launched in February, we were there on Day 1 — running around the virtual world watching our billboards go live. At the time, we were the only casino affiliate experimenting inside the Metaverse, and we spent much of that year testing creative campaigns there.

It was chaotic, but exciting.

2021–2024: Growth, Attacks & Pressure

These years were the toughest. With success came serious competition — and not always the fair kind. We dealt with constant site attacks, negative SEO spam, and attempts to push us out of search completely.

Still, we kept building. We were among the first to do long-form interviews with crypto casino founders, and we introduced things like our annual “GambleFi Token of the Year.”

But by late 2024, the pressure became too heavy. Search traffic took a big hit, and we decided to step back, rethink, and protect the community rather than fight endless battles.

Late 2024: Why WagerX.io Was Born

We realized something important: “New crypto casinos” had become too narrow. The audience was no longer small or experimental — it was 100x bigger than in 2018.

A lot of our OG users weren’t just hunting new sites anymore. They cared about GambleFi, tokens, ecosystems, transparency, and real testing. That’s why we launched WagerX.io — not as a replacement, but as a broader home for the community.

2025: Still Here, Still Building

In 2025, WagerX.io really took off. We partnered with industry leaders like BC.Game and Stake, and started doing things differently again.

One example is Live Testing Notes — daily, real-time status checks of casinos. No polished reviews, no fluff. Just honest testing. As far as we know, no one else is doing this at scale.

And this year, we also brought back NewCryptoCasinos.com. The community asked for it. Since we were one of the early players in this space, bringing it back felt right. We even kept the original 2018-style layout — because honestly, it still works.

Looking Ahead

It’s Christmas again, and I’m taking a short pause to recharge before 2026. The goal hasn’t changed since day one:
build safer, more transparent crypto gambling resources for players — whether through NewCryptoCasinos.com or WagerX.io.

Well, I’m actually proud I’m still here. You can see my account was registered back in 2016, and what really pulled me into this space was gambling. I’ve seen how gambling evolved over the years, from the early dice days, then sportsbook, and now full casinos that already integrate everything in one place.

There are way more players in the market now, which pushed casinos to offer better and higher-quality services. Some OG casinos managed to survive, some didn’t, and others just rebranded for one reason or another.

Many things have happened since crypto launched on its first day. The crypto casino is slowly growing and getting its loyal members. Many new casinos, gambling businesses, casino review sites, and casino lists sites also take part in growing crypto casinos.

It is nice to be part on crypto casinos, I mean although I am not too active playing gambling, I am watching what happens to the gambling industry. We will see the crypto casino grow bigger in the future.

I tried looking up when Stake launched and saw they started back in 2017. Honestly, I didn’t really notice them back then since they were just starting out. Never imagined they’d grow this big. The one I remember being big before was Sportsbet.io, but they already left the forum this year, which is kind of sad to see.

Thanks, I didn’t even know this kind of data was publicly available. But I’m assuming these numbers are only for crypto deposits, right? Since blockchain addresses can be tracked.

Fiat deposits, like bank-to-bank transfers, shouldn’t be included here because those are private.
That falls under bank secrecy and similar rules, so there’s no way that data would be visible anyway.

Same here or probably it's just me because I'm not into casino reviews. I probably know Gosu yeah because efialtis was way more consistent on it and yeah he got an impact though because he interact within the community. I'm not sure if I could be considered one. I remember playing on Freebitco.in and Primedice, and it was really early back then. (Thinking of this as an OG gambler but not necessarily in the OP's website). I'm not familiar with OP's website, though. I haven't heard of it until now. Maybe you should advertise here more, though.

It’s been 10 years already since the first time I gamble online in crypto casino. I even registered first on Primedice 1 year ahead before I discovered the Bitcointalk forum.

I don’t consider myself as an OG since there’s still other user that play on PD way earlier than me but it’s nice to be here for a long time and still doing what attracted me to be involved on crypto.

I'm no OG, but I have been playing online for a couple of years, and then offline for more than 10 years.

As far as my online experience specially when crypto is overall good. Although I think it's very challenging for crypto platform as you have said, there was an era where there's a lot of changes in regulation, like implementing KYC.

And most of us didn't want to do full KYC, but what can we do today? It's now like mandatory for everyone and if we want to enjoy playing crypto online then we don't have a choice but to follow it.

Yes, we've seen that gambling used to be one of the best cases for crypto base gambling, so there could be a lot of OG sites that was created for this purpose only like Stake or it's previous sites that I forget the name.

And now moving forward, we have seen the growth of many crypto base casinos and now it's a billion dollar industry. Maybe there are still some OG gamblers but they don't go online anymore here but most likely could have been playing although the landscape has evolved a lot.
