Trust Wallet has been hacked so we Nigerians should be careful.

Hello Nigerian Local Board friends,

A well-known wallet for us is the Trust Wallet, but currently during this festival we are seeing that it has been hacked. Initially I was surprised to see this news that Trust Wallet users lost 6 million plus dollars in a browser extension incident, it actually seems that their browser extension was not secure. This news spread within a few hours and it was mentioned that hundreds of “Trust Wallet” wallets were hacked in the last 2 hours. @TrustWallet Chrome extension is suspicious, so be careful using it.


Anyway here is what security researchers have observed by Trust Wallet extension and they mentioned that after closely examining this browser extension (marked as 4582.js) it was found that there was a newly added code in a JavaScript file but it was not explicitly linked to the release node and it seems that this may be the reason for their problem.


By the way finally I am going to add how much money people lost after this Trust Wallet was hacked.  It is clearly visible here that several users have publicly mentioned that this wallet gets hacked almost immediately after importing a seed phrase and the wallet starts emptying and it is mentioned that there has been a loss of around $700k dollars, so my small suggestion is that maybe it is better to move our assets from here.

Browser extension wallets, although fast and convenient, are not as secure as other wallets, and are risky. This is very bad news for us. We all know that browser extensions can be harmful to us. In the past, many people have suffered losses money because browser extension data was hacked and some are still facing such issues. If we are not careful on our own/self, we will always remain at risk. When using browser extensions, we must be very careful. We know that browser extensions are not fully safe for us, so it is better not to use extensions for our important wallets.

Anything that has to do with browser extension is generally very risky as your browser can even be compromised with zero click exploits and your funds would be at risk.

People using browser extension wallets should know of its vulnerabilities and not use it as their major holdings, instead hold funds considered change there so that in the event of such security exploit, they would not be at a serious loss.

I for one do not like browser extension wallet despite its speed and flexibility. I like it safer, even if I would pay the price in its speed.

Ignorance is one thing in this crypto space that has really wounded a lot of crypto enthusiastic while navigating their way here. Trust wallet is not a reliable wallet that can be used to secure your crypto, and your asset is even more vulnerable to hack if it's true extension the wallet is set up, so in this space, I believe that self custodian wallet is much more better for security of your asset, so if you are looking for a multi coin wallet, I think that the better option is cake wallet or monero, but if it's just bitcoin you want to hold, using electrum is a lot better since you are in charge of the key.

What a loss and unfortunate for the affected people who might have lost big money as a result of this hack. I know things happens but with what we have been hearing over the years from wallet extension hacks and people are still making use of these things. Sometimes there are things we could avoid, and things like this are one of them, people should stop making use of wallet extensions. If that will mean keeping your assets safe. This is also a lesson to some of us here who might have it in mind to use wallet extensions.

Trust wallet is not a closed source wallet and not safe for users. I'm curious why people are still using such wallet despise being in this forum. I feel for those investors that lost their funds. This is why you need to know the right software wallet to use. Electrum wallet and blue wallet is a good wallet to use.

Since Binance had control over Trust Wallet (Imagine a centralized system owning another system that claims to be decentralized). It's crystal clear that Trust Wallet isn't safe to hold coins, but what happened was an extension hack, I don't think it affected mobile apps or desktop downloads.

For someone who has an address from Trust Wallet and doesn't want to change it, should import the keys into BlueWallet, delete the logins from Trust Wallet. Moreover, there has been serious lag with TrustWallet, with no reason to keep using it.

Yes, this wallet users lost a huge amount of money due to the browser extension bug. Did you notice that on December 24, Trust Wallet released version 2.68.0 of the Chrome browser extension, due to which we saw that many people lost their money after accessing the wallet through this new extension, so now it has already become clear that Trust Wallet users lost about 7 million money due to this bug. However, it appears that Binance founder CZ has mentioned that the amount of money that has been hacked so far will be borne by Trust Wallet, which means he has assured the victims that they will get back the assets in their wallets.
