List of Key Events of 2025

Before the start of 2025, I had a feeling that this year would be a breakthrough year for Bitcoin. One by one, promising projects that could push Bitcoin's development forward were announcing ambitious plans for the year: Babylon, Stacks, BitcoinOS, BitVM, and others.

But what has actually been delivered? What key Bitcoin-related events can we highlight in 2025? With the help of the forum, I'd like to compile a list of such events.

For me, the most important developments in 2025 are:

1. Spark launch.
2. Ark launch.
Both significantly improve UX. Previously, to make fast and cheap transfers, users had to open channels and monitor liquidity, and channels could close at the worst possible moment. Few people liked that. Now, channel management is handled by Ark and Spark operators, while users only have two buttons: "Send" and "Receive" - and nothing else is required.

3. RGB launch.   
For a long time, Bitcoin was criticized for not supporting complex smart contracts. Now it can. Personally, I don't need it, and I'm not even sure if anyone does. Smart contracts feel like a feature mostly relevant to altcoin communities. Still, the tool now exists, and that's a notable step forward for Bitcoin. Maybe smart contracts will bring something new and useful to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

4. Discontinuation of USDT support on Omni Layer.
5. USDT launch on Taproot Assets.
6. USDT launch on RGB.
I consider all three events important for one key reason.
USDT has become a sort of crypto benchmark. When people say "crypto," they often mean USDT. Tether clearly tries to associate itself with Bitcoin in its marketing. The Omni Layer approach didn't work - there was no real demand. Tether turned the page and attempted to enter through two new doors.
Yet, the removal of USDT from the original Bitcoin protocol where it was first issued went completely unnoticed by users, and the issuance of USDT on the other two protocols also looks like a failure. According to the official Tether website, no USDT tokens have been minted on these protocols. In other words, not a single Tether client paid the issuer to receive USDT specifically on Bitcoin, whether through Taproot Assets or RGB.
These three events clearly demonstrate that Bitcoin and USDT exist in parallel universes. They intersect only on exchanges where BTC/USDT trading pairs exist. Tether users have no real need for the Bitcoin ecosystem, and interest in USDT inside Bitcoin's native ecosystem is close to zero, too.
Now we have real-world examples to explain that USDT and Bitcoin are not connected in any meaningful way. This means there is a chance that a potential collapse of USDT won't undermine trust in Bitcoin.

Why I think most people fear is because they also convert the bitcoin to usdt before they spend them, so technically if anything happens to usdt it’s also affecting the exchange and the price of their asset also.
Only few person send bitcoin to others when having day to day transaction.

A lot of activities and remarkable evens happened in this year and we can right about them, the one that mostly concern me is the bullrun that made us into all time high with bitcoin price, this is an interesting experience to see that almost everyone benefited from this unique and amazing opportunity, which we also hope it see more subsequently even at the few days left for this year to round up, there are others that have led to the market reaction seen as a result of the economic news and developments, both within and in the political circle.

Many things have happened in 2025, but the key event I will never forget is what happened on October 2025, where liquidity got drained and some people still sided with the exchanges that are culprit of the event,  simply because they claimed to have reimbursed all affected users and many only got small percentage of the most they lost.

Everything died down like it never happened and no one is questioning them, I will never forget when happened on that month of October, never.

People still think whenever USDT prints billions of tokens, that's when the market will pump Bitcoin, so it's no surprise that they think we need to investigate them more.

Another major event to point at is that of the Israel Iran War, which after the launch of the attacks, it caused the market to also react and we see the impact on bitcoin, same applies to when any sudden event or activities happened and were being released, they often make a shift in the market and these few major events could be part of what made the 2025 a year of much to write about with the bitcoin market volatility till what led us to where we are today.

This year we had Bitcoin quite well because of the beginning but in the last 6 months Bitcoin's performance was very bad in front of us and it is still bad and this year people believed in it a lot and invested a lot in it and there was a lot of development regarding Bitcoin which is more in my opinion this year than anything else. Although Bitcoin is not seeing us go above $100k, it will be in this average of 2026, we cannot say anything. If Bitcoin does not do something soon, then this year we will see development due to destruction. Although this price is very good, in which you can get Bitcoin as much as possible because after this year Bitcoin could never come to this price and we went through regrets like 2009 this year too, so we should always look at Bitcoin with a positive attitude so that we will really see it for a few days.

If any stable coins have abide to the rules and regulations, USDT is number one, they are shaken to the last dust, so as to see what they are made of and how they are operating, USDT was ransacked to the last dirt, I think people forget things easily, not me, they are investigated not once not twice not even thrice, they kept calling them out as if every other crypto coins can't survive if USDT never existed.

They investigated and let them go, but still went back and did another investigation again. They got nothing, upon all the investigations nothing came to light, because nothing was hidden anyways, as sweet as it was is why even the president of the united states want his own stable coin as well.

Look around today, we have new stablecoins showing up in every corner, USDT is centralised, I can't deny this fact but they faced the fire while others are left alone, funny enough USDT/Tether fought all alone, as if they are the only stablecoin existing in this crypto space at the time.

If only the bitcointalk platform have a statistic dashboard that displays number of users that signed into the forum regularly and haven to show total number of users signed-in since 2025, you will understand how the community have really exposes and educated a huge number of Bitcoin users in both trading, investment and even Blockchain (tech), you will know that this platform is one reputable and most reliable Bitcoin discussion forum anywhere in the internet which is an avenue of speculating and creating Bitcoin awareness to the large number of Bitcoin adoptors today.

The forum is a full Bitcoin discussion community that even make you more comfortable with a high professional level of educating and sharing ideal and real life events in the forum. Same time does not support evil as much Bitcoin is the opposite of cash when we prioritize on reliability.

The pardoning of Ross Ulbricht also caught my attention. His sentence was too harsh and the Bitcoin community have been campiagning for his release for a long time. His full and unconditional pardoning by the US government was remarkable.

The Uptober liquidation in which Bitcoin recorded the highest price was one. Another I can think of that I don't think anyone here has mentioned was when the U.S government launched their own Bitcoin and cryptocurrency reserve bank that allowed them hold Bitcoin instead of selling those that were seized or confiscated from suspected criminals and money launderers.
The Genius Act was a key legislation policy that was significant in the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency ecosystem in late 2025 and lastly, was when the price of Bitcoin abandoned the dip it was in and almost stabilized between $90k and $95k of which we ride into this new year with more potential to rise and make good returns for investors.

The sentencing of Ross got me worried, back then I felt a threat and I started thinking how this needed to stop, I nearly don't see anymore future for anything privacy related too, it's concerning, but then the possibility bof pardoning him came around, that was a heavy lifting of a machine off my chest.

This is the digital market we are talking about; when something large affects a major part of the market, every other part will not go untouched. If anything happens to USDT today, the price of Bitcoin is likely going to dump just like what happened during the Luna crash with UST, which is the stablecoin of the Luna lab.

People won't lose hope or trust in Bitcoin, but the crypto market will shake. Many coins are paired to USDT and other stablecoins, and USDT holds the highest volume among every other stablecoin and is in the top 3 on the list among all cryptos.

What other important events happened in 2025?

There should be many events in the previous year and perhaps their relevance to Bitcoin could be summarized in a few key events, but global economic, geopolitical and other events tend to be more significant. I haven't been following the launch of Spark or Ark closely because I'm currently more focused on accumulating Bitcoin than on events that could drive Bitcoin's future development. In some contexts, I've overlooked them.

Fundamentally, they're not connected at all, as what's happening is trading pairs on exchanges and even those of us outside of them can use Bitcoin in our local currency when conducting any transactions. Bitcoin's maturity as a fundamental asset may be reaching its peak and there may be many other narratives that can be linked to it, although these should be separate.
