People gambling away their Christmas bonus

Where I'm from we still have 14 salaries mandated by law and on Christmas every private sector worker that has been with the same company for over a few months receives a full salary extra in full.

What I've noticed recently is that many people tend to go gambling and some even gamble away their full salary.
It used to be that this extra salary was given to gifts and some was saved.

But now people don't take it into account for their budgeting and instead use the whole of it as if it was a random small windfall.

Not really a good idea, you have a lot of explaining to do with your wife if you gamble away your bonus, wives expect that money for the holidays, your wife will not let you in without that bonus

Well I don’t know where you live but it seem like it’s in a place filled with gambling activities like the Las Vegas area. People seem to gamble away there extra money knowing that it will not affect them and it’s just an extra I believe that why it has become random is that they somehow during the festive season try to double it if they can spend extremely large during the holidays and also knowing that yes the amount is so small that it can be lost without too much being thought of.

I don't have a similar experience and, since it's been something which is being done on a yearly basis, not just at random, always wasting money because you don't have a budget for, it makes the person an unserious person. This is not money that you are not sure of but a payment that comes at the end of the year if you can't add it to savings at least consider spending it wisely and not to increase the budget they usually have for gambling

Yep, gambling with Christmas bonus is the worst mistake ever. Because that bonus is supposed to serve as a gift from the company which you are meant to use it in a way you wouldn't regret, so gambling with your Christmas bonus is the worst idea ever. And even if I'm the wife I won't take it likely to be frank, no matter how big or small the bonus is you're supposed to take it home and then discuss with your wife And children on how to spend it. I wonder why a guy will decide to gamble with his Christmas bonus when there's cash, or maybe they think there might be a little change if they bet with Christmas bonus but that doesn't make any sense at all.

There is actually a drive in me that makes me want to use my Christmas money to gamble, and this is because I see it as free extra money, so I just use it even if I loose it, it dies not really bother me much because it's just like a free money.
Apart from the Christmas bonus any other money that is not my salary is so attractive to be used for gambling, meanwhile I don't really use much of my salary to gamble.

No one I have worked with has giving me a breakdown of how they spent a whole salary they gave them, some can tell me they want to get this or that when paid but they don’t tell me how their money was used because that’s not something they tell people.

In my place this condition does not occur but it is actually not wrong if the reference is only a little aside from the bonus but for the whole especially when the bonus is quite large I think it is a little excessive if it is only used for gambling.

Although this is understandable because we know that this is a good moment especially when we are given a few days off then this can obviously be used to relax and have fun and gambling can be a solution, but using the entire bonus only for gambling and not using it for anything else I think this could be serious even though the money is an annual bonus for Christmas but still it is not very wise for me if this is used entirely for gambling.

If you live alone or are a bachelor, you are free to do with that bonus whatever you can, including wasting it at a casino. But, if you have a family and your family expects that bonus for their holidays and gifts, then you are really addicted to gambling, and you don't know how to allocate money for your gambling activity.
A Christmas bonus is goodwill money, and most workers who receive it spend it on the holidays with their families, so you should do the same.

Gambling away an entire income such as your Christmas bonus is a very  dangerous path to trole while gambling, because it only tells that you are probably an addicted gambler who doesn't really have controle over his gambling habit.
Talking about what your wife will say I will say it's better you don't  tell your wife if you ask me because definitely she wouldn't take it easy on you especially if she is the type that don't fancy gambling most it's better to fix your loses quietly without any traces to maintain peace .

It’s a bonus right? Well, it does get the bonus treatment, no big deal.

Most times, when people receive what I would call “free money” or simply put as money you didn’t have to work so hard for but, just some incentives to have worked with the company for a time extending to a season, we don’t tend to value this so very much and would find it with much ease to just do away with the money which ever way we please,

If gambling does work with some forks, it’s completely okay, just the bonus money treatment, nothing to see here and hope it doesn’t border the family.

It all depends on the amount of bonus that comes in, if the bonus is too little compare to what can purchase tangible goods, it can be used for gambling. If the bonus is pretty large enough, salary earner won't joke with it because its worth it.

That's the way I may handle it if I am a strong bettor though, I can't use bigger bonus for gambling, but little bonus for gambling because I can afford to loss it.

Nah! I don’t have a similar experience with my colleagues. The truth of the matter is that I have never really discussed with them to the extent that we started to share our gambling habits with each other, the best we have done was argue about sport a few times and that was it.

But if there are people out there who actually do this, then I’d say that it’s just more than gambling at this point - I think they might have gone to the addiction phase, because for someone to just consciously log into their account after being paid and then use all the bonuses they got from work to gamble and then lost all to the casino. If I was the wife in this position I’d be pissed, and if he continues I might even threaten with divorce because he is clearly not in his right senses.

The way they’re doing it, it’s like they’re giving the casino a Christmas bonus. But anyway, it’s none of our business. It’s their money and they have the right to spend it however they want, so I won’t judge.

If it were me though, my bonus would go straight to my family. Holiday season prep, Christmas parties, New Year celebrations. At least for me, this is the time to pause a bit from gambling. I gamble regularly too, but the holidays should be more meaningful, less stress, and definitely fewer bets.

Christmas bonuses are meant to be a supplementary payment meant to assist you in whatever stuff you are or intend to venture into during that season of the Christmas celebration. Of which as a gambler, it is obvious gambling is likely to be included on the activities that bonus fund is meant to be spent on. However, when it comes to the aspect of wasting it all on gambling alone, actually shows a great sign of mismanagement. Because despite the fact that the money was a free extra paycheck for December, it still doesn't stop the fact for you not to gamble responsibly, knowing fully well the risk involved.

I understand why others would think that it's free money since it's a "bonus", but of course it's not. I'm sure you know that it's a part of the company benefits, so you still work for it basically. It's fine for me to use a small percentage for gambling, but definitely not all of it. For me, that would be the same as gambling away your monthly salary. I'd rather use most of it to buy gifts for my kids and family.

Looks like they didn't value at all the efforts of working this all throughout the year, that's why they won't mind if everything will be wasted through gambling. Some may make a good win, but not everyone is lucky, majority are losing, and so all their hard-earned bonuses.

I have heard stories like this before, irresponsible gambling is really the worst, though its okay to gamble, but just gamble on what you are comfortable of losing, and bonuses are certainly no one can afford to lose.

I don't care about how the other people will spend their bonuses.
If they have decided to gamble all that they have, that's okay, that's their decision.
And that's their money to gamble with. I've known people that do such and even not with their bonuses but with actual salary even before the holiday season.
It certainly is a waste but if you remind them to do the right thing, you'll be their villain.

This is the very worst gambling mistake any gambler will chose to take. Those who are comfortably doing this are not thinking of the high risk to lose, but they prioritize on thinking the possibility that they could double or triple their capital if they get extra lucky when gambling.

Unfortunately, there are more possible losses than winnings in gambling. And even if you say you'll win, not to mention the losses you have dealt before you win up winning big.
