The 50 naira stamp duty that banks are deducting from people receiving money, given to federal government will not longer be deducted, but the senders will be charged the fee instead.

I think this is better than the receivers to be charged the fee.

That picture is the email my bank sent me today about it and I have confirmed it from other sources.

This is the appropriate way for this deduction because someone who is receiving the money shouldn't have to pay any 50 naira charge because they were only receiving so if there is anything involving charges the person sending is best taking the charge from, although I don't no if this information is also January purpose of starting because if is something they have implemented to start taking effect immediately then they have lied because the transaction I made today I was deducted the same 50 naira after receiving, so it has not been stopped yet, if Nigeria no that people are still going to pay for the tax they should stop requesting for the deduction again.

I'm not trying to dispute this but I haven't seen it on any news channel that sender will be deducted, I received some money few minutes ago and was debited 50 naira for stamp duty, federal government is really making a whole lot of money from this stamp duty and yet we're not seeing any visible project that they are using this funds for, no development, no job creation ,no diversity in terms of agriculture and other development strive in the country.

Like I said I was deducted from the money I received Maybe the deductions will stop from January 2026 , if it's true then it's a good idea from the government , they should implement it immediately because imagine you are expecting to receive a sum of 10,000 and 50 naira was deducted, you can no longer use the money for the purpose it came for because it won't be complete as they have deducted stamp duty from it, so I applaud them for coming up with such idea to start deducting from the sender and not the recipient.

It will begin tomorrow

There are many news about it

There are still more sources about it but I think this is enough.

Their brwin is turned upside down before but they want to do what is right now, it is the sender that should be charged.

I think some banks are yet to publish and implement this method of collecting stamp duty because, of all the banks I use, only a few of them sent me such email. The rest haven’t, neither have I officially seen this on any new channel as of now.

This idea was initiated following the new Nigeria Tax Act 2025. Hopefully the Nigerian government will use these taxes for the right cause. Now my question to this government becomes “how do we hold the government responsible when they don’t deliver since we’ve all accepted to pay our taxes?”. We all deserve to know how our taxes are being used. Will the government be accountable enough to probe and persecute itself?
