Account logged out without clicking "LOGOUT"

As the title says, has anyone else experienced this recently? It's happened to me twice today. I thought my account was hacked or I accidentally clicked "log out." But the second time, I clearly clicked the "reply" button to reply to the thread, but I was logged out.

Fyi, I checked "always logged in" and haven't logged out in over 3 month on the same device.

Did you by any chance remove browser data while this happened? (even if it was from another device, using the same google account)? Or do you have some software like CCleaner that does the cleaning for you on a regular basis?

My account is logged in all the time and there is no automatic logout. The only time this happened to me is when I am on Tor and I forgot to click on the always login.

It is better you change your password and email to be able to know that no one is having access to your email and login password.

Did you log out on a *different* device?

That's what theymos said about it in 2018:

- If you logout on one session, all of your sessions are logged out.
 - When you change your password, your session length is changed to 1 hour, so you will soon be logged out.

There's no 6-month expiration or anything. If your "remember password" thing is being forgotten, then that'd be especially surprising.

It can always be your browser's fault as well.

I have not faced any such situation so far.
But in this case I will tell you to check your ip log carefully. See if your account has been logged in from an unknown location. You will find this in the account related settings of your profile.
 If so, change your email and password as soon as possible.

No, I very rarely do that.
I have two active login sessions (always logged in), on two devices and one browser type (two different Google accounts), but everything is completely under my control. It's been working fine until today; this incident happened on both of my devices.

I personally noticed that I had been logged out recently on both of my devices. Nothing unusual regarding my activity, and I ignored it because I thought it was related to the chaos that was caused by the Cloudflare outages.

Nothing to be alarmed of if your IP addresses are a match. 2 factor verification should be a must though, just in case.

Same thing happened to me this Sunday 28/12/2025 that just passed, I wanted to make some post but I noticed my campaign logo wasn't spotted at the top of my screen as usual I try checking and I noticed I was logged out which I can remember very well that I never did, I wanted to panic at first but I slowed down and try logging in again at first I put in my details they were showing me incorrect password , I was afraid I thought my account has been hijacked by an unknown user I became more skeptical of the account that took me years to build. However, I try logging in again perhaps I might be making a mistake with my login details  and behold the third time I tried it works possibly I was making a mistake the other time I did it.

 But  what kept me wondering till now is that I still can't figured out what really logged me out  but am happy that I got my account back.

I have never experienced this, but it depends on the browser you are using to browse the forum, some browsers may log you out on some platform automatically when the browser app updates in the background.
Another possibility is browser data - if you downloaded or have a memory cleaner app that deep cleans, there is the possibility that cleaner app doesnt only shut down apps running on your device background, it also clears browser cookies and data to free up space - if this happens, the browser will log you out from this forum and other sites you are logged in.

Odd. Are you using Firefox or Chrome? Or another browser? I know you said this happened on both devices, which is even more odd. However, if you're using Firefox it might be worth navigating to about:support and taking a look at your "profile folder" location, and checking when the cookies.sqlite.bak and cookies.sqlite were last modified. While, you are in there you might as well take a look at last updated to see if that coincides with the log out.

Unfortunately, the cookies file has probably already been overwritten, but if it happens again it might give you an idea of when this exactly happened, and then you can potentially do some investigation work on your OS to seem if anything ran around that time, such as anti virus etc. Unless, you're using Linux and that kind of kills that theory.

Were you logged out of anything else? Like other sites or had issues with any other sites cookies? That might point to the cookies file becoming corrupted which is also pretty rare but not impossible.

Otherwise it points to something server side possibly messing up, but specifically only you which unless theymos was doing some work right at that second seems unlikely. A few users have suggested this has happened to them recently, but this personally hasn't happened in my entire 12+ years. So, I'm suspecting either a recent change or something that specifically happened at that moment. The fact you were using the forum at the time of both logouts suggests something happening while communicating with the server though. I'm wondering whether a IP conflict caused a session mismatch or something. Only theymos can confirm that though.

Another thing, modern browsers generally have a "sync" feature which syncs sessions between computers. It might be that something related to this has gone wayward. Do you have that feature enabled?

I experienced the same issue some months back for unknown reasons. I used chrome browser for my browsing activities and my account has been on always logged in for over a year now until some time around the middle of this year I experienced this. I was forced to change my password because I thought someone was trying to temper with my account. I don't remember clearing my browser data or clear cache at any time. It happened not once but twice in my own case as well before I changed my password. The surprising thing was that I opened several pages while logged in but it logged me out when I tried to make a post. Once I click on reply or qoute, it will ask me to log in again.

If an account is logged in on one device by any reason, it will be logged out on all other devices.

Bitcointalk has feature when you logout on one device, all current login session will be logout in any device.

Once you log out from your account on one device, you are automatically logged out on all other devices as well and will have to login to your account again.

It is not OP reason for the logout but in meantime of finding reasons, OP can take a look at that account login IP addresses and see whether anything strange recently.

Mostly this may only happens when we clear our browser history and cache or adjust the settings, then when we log into the forum, it requires that we provide a login password, another similar occurrence to this is when there is a change in default browser used, but once you already maintain all these being in place, then pressed always login, i don't think there's anything that warrant us login into our account again without login out first.

This occurs if you're using Chrome or browser, and you have apps that automatically clears your system, especially when you mistakenly click on cleaner apps, it will wipe every login in your system,

Secondly, if you login your account in two device, like laptop and phone. Any day you logged out your account from you phone, it will logged out in your laptop..
 
Note If you dont click on,  always stay logged in: your account can logout at anytime..

Your issue is probably related with altered browser settings that is related with cookies or browsing history, maybe this was caused by updating your browser recently.
Another thing I would look is changes with your browser extensions, for example something like adblockers.
You can try solving this doing browser reset to default or just try using different browser.

It happened to me a few days ago, and as far as I remember it wasn't the first time. I've had a few such experiences over the years, although I never paid much attention to them. What I can say is that this event was not the result of anything mentioned in other posts, I use Tor exclusively and the same thing happened to me just like you.
