According to the Nigerian tax man, Taiwo Oyedele, those earning below the minimum wage are exempted from paying tax. But I find this not to be true because Nigeria's minimum wage is 70,000 monthly, which will lead to an annual pay of 840,000.
Mr Taiwo also said those earning 800,000 and below are exempted from paying tax, so it is really confusing.
another challenging aspect of this bill is that Nigerians are of the opinion the tax paid will be used to sponsor the lives of the politicians and that of their children
so, looking at the whole debacle surrounding this tax bill who bears the brunt the most?

First of all let me welcome you to the forum seeing that, this is your first post. Concerning the new tax law that has taken effect as of yesterday been the first of January 2026, this bill first of all is against the ordinary Nigerian workers, entrepreneur and ordinary citizens because the political class in what ever bill that, they pass has a way of shielding themselves from the law. From information that is available to us as Nigerians on the social media space, that we are going to be taxed in every transactions that make do which will still boil down to the poor man. But  this tax law seems to be having controversy because there seems to be a disagreement between the legislation and the executive concerning this law, as there seems be a different between the one that was signed into law by president Tinibu and the one that was pass by both Senate and the house of representative.

Normally the common man has always been victimize in every bad situations in Nigeria and that is the way it is right from time. Tinubu new tax refund is a medium of stealing from the poor masses and not more, is either we believe it or not they have no genuine plans for us all they are concerned of is on how they can enrich their self and that of their children unborn and God will demand it from them one day.

The poor citizens that is finding it very difficult to feed are the same people our so call government and his cabinet still want to take from, Nigerian government will not stop amazing me.

There are many complications in the tax reform which no one is talking about and I'm sure those complications will definitely lead to the exploitation of Nigerians by the authority. In a situation where majority of Nigerians are unemployed or petty traders, the only way to possibly implement taxation will be to debit them from their bank accounts, and if that is the case, how will they ascertain the true transaction of an individual without the process becoming marred with irregularities and fraud?
