Be honest. How many of us said this New Year that we’d stop gambling, then ended up doing the same thing anyway? Hehe.

Most of the time, when we make promises like this, they don’t really last. Motivation is high at first, but after a while, old habits come back.

So I’ll ask directly. If you made it your New Year’s resolution to stop gambling, how is it going now?
Did you really stop, cut down, or are you still playing like before?

I never had such a resolution because gambling has never been troublesome for me, and the reason for that is simple; I don't overdo it, which means that whenever I gamble, I have a specific budget for it and I don't go over that budget like other gamblers who would make more deposits once they exhaust the current bankroll only so that they can recover their losses. I know that I can't recover what's lost in gambling, and if I try doing that, I will probably lose more money instead, so I don't do it.

You are right that people who are addicted to gambling and can't be without it won't be able to stay away from it for very long, so even if they make a resolution to stop gambling or promise themselves that they won't do it, after a few days, they will start getting restless again because the urge starts to tease them and they would want to gamble again, and no matter how hard they try to stay away and fulfill their promise and complete their resolution, they will eventually give up against the urge and start gambling again because they can't do it.

I didn't make a decision to stop but play more responsible and cut down the cost of playing, instead i have decided to gamble with a positive mindset and with an amount that is very cheap that I can loss very easily. I have been gambling once in a while but I will gamble better now but just according to my schedules. New resolutions are not always what determined change but discipline and what is the purpose of the decision.

Same with me, I don't intend to stop gamble this year but I intend to gamble responsibly so that I will not become addicted to gamble. To gamble responsible is the main thing to do rather than stopping. If it is very difficult for a gambler to stop gambling then why not the gambler try to gamble responsibly. It can be easier to gamble responsible than to stop gambling. Even though after making a decision about gamble then later go against it (which is bad) but it is easier to gamble responsible than to stop. Well that doesn't mean that if you are supposed to stop gambling stop, don't take because I said that stoping is not the resolution not to stop some people are addicted and are supposed to stop gambling at all cost so the mere fact that they are still gambling is what influence cause them, gambling is not something that people should hold on to because it's just mere fun and not a lifestyle to maintain instead put that force into something else, so for people who are willing to stop or do not find it good for their health mentally it's advisable to stop gambling.

But the reality is that they start gambling again from the evening of January 1. This is actually a human habit, a long-standing habit that is very difficult to give up just for the promise of one day. Quitting gambling requires mental preparation, which takes time. So I think New Year's resolutions aren't really that effective for me, which will help me quit gambling overnight.

Yes mate I understand what you are saying, gamble should just be for fun because if you are expecting something from it you will get the opposite of it. If there should be any method to guarantee gamblers from winning their bets there will be just few casinos right now, but because we there is no guarantee and the casinos are making plenty money from the business that's why they keep on improving. Only casino CEO are making money and the gamblers are just winning penny, those who take it upon themselves that they will get rich through gamble are just wasting their time unless luck finds them.

I’ve never been huge on New Year’s resolutions. It almost seems like if you start something on the first of the year you are doomed to fail. If you want to accomplish something, just do it. You don’t need to wait for a certain day of the year.

The new year is usually when many people do personal appraisal of their previous years to know how they have managed their resources. During such appraisals, it is possible to consider stopping when it becomes obvious that gambling made you waste so much money. In other words, the new can trigger someone to make such decision but being able to keep it is another thing and depend entirely on the person making such decision. I have noticed that a lot of people do not even keep their new year's resolution.

Though I didn't came up with any resolution for quitting betting this year but anyone that depends on gambling can't actually quit it even if they had made a resolution to quit because they depend on it for survival, it's only someone that has several sources of income that can decide not to gamble again for this year and stick to it, this can only be achieved by discipline and self control.

It takes a disciplined individual to take that bold step of not gambling anymore after he has made a resolution to quit. But my advice to gamble addicts is that they should try to take bold steps in quitting if they really want to quit. One thing I'm meant to understand is that motivation takes effect for that period when you have had a bad experience from gambling and probably you were hurt and you made the resolution to quit that moment but after a while that same individual will forget the past and continue to gamble so anyone that depends on it for survival can't quit or keep to the resolution of not gambling.

I don’t know why some people will want to stop gambling by new year? I don’t see anything bad  in gambling. Maybe the people that are addicted to gambling are the set of people that will be making promises like that, but if you are the type that gamble responsibly, then I don’t think you will even want to stop gambling by new year because you know when to stop whenever you are gambling.

If you know you cant fulfill a promise, then don’t make it. If you really want to stop gambling, you don’t even have to start promising yourself that you want to stop it, you can just make the decision, and you going to do it.

Gambling is never my problem, so whenever you am making new year resolution, I never even involve gambling in  my new year resolution.

I ain't fan of new year resolutions and never have made one but I don't think they work because the way human behaviour goes the more you suppress, the more energy suppressed thing gets and it's likely to blow up sooner or later with force (i.e, resolution will be broken sooner or later).

Sounds funny but the honest truth. But let us think about it if OP did not express himself entirely, he might not be one of them that are randomly making such resolutions and could not realize his left from his right.

Of course there are lot of such that makes wishes for themselves but yet they are the ones making criticisms of themselves. It is as those who claim to be serious but are just the dumbest.

Most of the new year's resolution are not done heartily but just to ride the celebration, so I doubt if those who's goal is to stop gambling will definitely happen in time. But I know for sure that gambling does not make me feel bad, so I chose to keep it than stay away from it.

Gambling is here for entertainment, but if you find it the other way around, and make you addicted because of greed to make more money, that's where gambling becomes the worst. I made a promise that if possible, I would like to stop gambling this year but I didn’t really take it seriously because I am the type that doesn’t even gamble regularly. It is once in a while that I gamble. With that reason, I think it is not that necessary to stop gambling.So, for three days now, I have not gambled, but I don’t think that even if I am serious, I will stop gambling. In fact, most of those that are promising that they will not gamble again this year are those that really regret gambling, because they gamble with what they cannot afford to lose and they end up losing the money.But if someone did not lose some amount, it will be hard for the person to make up their mind that they are not going to gamble again.

Whether it is for occasional entertainment or frequent use, the moment you’re no longer able to stop gambling and just stay away from it, then it automatically means that you’re addicted to it, and you should probably take this seriously and figure out how to reduce it or at least try to see if you can go a whole month without gambling and if you’re unable to do it then you’d have to look for the best way to stop it since it is still in its early stage and haven’t gotten to the extent where you’d start looking for money (and even thinking of doing unethical things just to get money to fund your gambling habit).

Personally, I can go a whole month or even more without opening my gambling account and won’t feel a thing, so you should also try it and see if you’re on the right path or if things have changed a little and you’re now getting more urge to gambling then you had when you recently started gambling.

Anyone can have the intention, or strong motivation to quit gambling as a New Year's resolution, and hopefully it could overcome the problem of bad gambling habits. However, I believe that pursuing this requires not only strong intentions but also finding a comfortable approach, and this depends on each individual. Personally, I think a comfortable approach is to gradually reduce the intensity of gambling, which can help someone break their habit. I am not so sure about someone who says, "I am quitting gambling", and then suddenly does so; I don't think it is very effective, as it seems too forced.

Well, it is still early into the year, gambling isn't something that can be stopped just like that  and even though they made new year resolutions they cannot automatically stop if they don't put in conscious efforts to stop it and that isn't really easy. Personally I have no new year resolutions towards gambling because I have been gambling responsibly, what I need this year is to find a way to improve my strategy to get better in sports betting. I don't have the New Year's resolution of stopping gambling because I have survived and passed the phase of gambling irresponsibly since 2024. I only gamble occasionally now, and that's whenever I feel there's a need for it or just to try my luck with the fund I can easily afford to lose.
Only gamblers who always find themselves in the midst of gambling with the fund they planned to use for something important should have the resolution to stop gambling for some time, so they can get back on track and also have control over their buzz.

At the beginning of the new year, I will not make a decision to stop gambling. Because I usually control myself and participate in gambling. However, if I used to participate twice a week, then I will make a decision in the new year that I will reduce my participation in gambling a little within a budget. Since I only participate in gambling from a certain part of my income and therefore, it becomes easier to control myself in gambling if I have a certain fixed budget. I will fix the budget, reduce my participation in gambling a little, but I will not be able to make this decision to stop gambling all at once in the new year.

Well, not me. I have learned so much from personal experience and from discussions on this forum to blurt out such emotional decisions that isn't backed up by any substantial desire to change.

Any one who has made a resolution not to gamble in the new year will break it before the end of January. I do not mean to sound Pessimistic but these resolutions don't work. They are just trends that people say when they are with other people for them to feel good about themselves.
