I think that’s just human nature, we’re really good at lying to ourselves. I honestly don’t even know how to make a New Year’s resolution anymore, I’ve promised myself many times that I’d stop gambling and yet here I am, still doing it.

That’s why I don’t really believe myself anymore when I say I’ll stop gambling, most of the time those promises come out when I’m upset after a loss. Maybe I’ll stop in the future if I completely lose the love for it, but that feels unlikely, I’m already saying that while still gambling.

And why exactly should this happen in the new year? In order to break bad habits, you should not choose any date, it can be done literally the next day after making a decision. And in this case, if you don't succeed, you won't have to wait another year until the next new year, and you can try to break the bad habit starting next week.

There’s a time during 2018 I have a new year resolution like this after losing my crypto holdings when crypto winter. I become impatient that my holdings value is dumping so I just gamble it away and lose most of it.

I wish to stop my gambling activities which I follow for a couple of months but later on break it instead I just learn how to control my gambling activities properly.

It’s very hard to completely stop gambling while still active on gambling discussion board.

I didn't plan to stop gamble this year 2026, I only reduced the amount that I do assign to my weekly gambling budget to limit my losses. Of course, it's easy to say that you will stop gambling than putting it into practice because of the dopamine rush you feel.

Discipline and self control is very important as a gambler so that you can stop gambling at the right time because if you lose control and gamble irresponsibly, you will become addicted. If you're gambling excessively, quit gambling for sometimes.

New year resolution is not my thing anymore. While I was younger, all my family members put up New Year plans. Unfortunately before the end of January, we are back to the behaviour we vowed to stop. My belief now is that I don't need to wait till the end of the year before I make decisions to stop activities that are affecting me negatively. If I feel that stopping gambling will help me achieve a goal, I wouldn't hesitate to stop it immediately. To answer your question, OP, I didn't make any New Year's resolution regarding my gambling activities. And my gambling budget is fine, I am not increasing or reducing it.

I did tell myself that I would minimize my gambling habit in slots only, and thankfully, I have not broken that New Year's resolution yet. Actually, it's much better. I have not really played slots yet, and I like it that way. I will focus everything on sports betting, and hopefully, I will get good results.

It's just the casino games that I like to stop. It's too expensive. It's highly addictive. It really messed up my budget, and I don't want that to happen again. No, it did not work. I made a promise a few years ago, and I failed miserably. I had success for a few days, but the notification from my emails on the various giveaways broke my New Year's resolution. From then on, I stopped making resolutions. There was a time that I stopped gambling because of my own resolution, and it's not even the new year.

You can stop anytime when you want to stop, and you don't need a new year or any particular day to do so. Stop when you think your finances and well-being are suffering, and you will be glad that you did.

It's not easy to quick gambling when you're addicted to it, just like you aid, self control is very important in gambling, and if you can remove emotions and play according to the rules, even when you lose,it won't affect your emotions.

Stoping gambling is not part of my resolution, I don't depend on gambling, just play gamble to double up my spare cash. Gambling has no side effects on me. So I'll plan whenever I wish and when I don't feel like I'll stop it. It's not a do or die affairs.

It's too early to say but with the statistics about New Year's Resolutions being a failure for most people, it is highly likely that people that try to abstain from gambling this year will be back in gambling in no time, maybe the highest that they could keep it up would be around a month. It takes a lot of willpower and discipline to be able to follow through what you promise especially if that promise is to stop something that gives you comfort and pleasure, it wouldn't not be easy so maybe sticking to simple things like proper diet and following an exercise regiment this year might be a better resolution as that can easily be followed up.

So far there are only 3 options that I often find and well again and again the betting starts where EPL, LA LIGA, SERIE A UCL, etc are hard to miss. I have to hold back a bit or try to find a way to stay away from it for a while.

My wish is that people never reach the point where they feel like they have to stop gambling, because that usually means gambling is already hurting them due to lack of responsibility. When someone starts thinking that way, it’s a sign gambling is destroying them, and we don’t want to see gamblers end up like that, completely disconnected from something that’s supposed to be enjoyable.

There are gamblers who think about quitting, manage to stop for a while, then come back as more responsible players, and that’s what I like to see. Not quitting for good, but learning how to gamble responsibly.

For me is working out so far yet I think it is very early to give real answers, it is just three days in the New Year and despite looking good for me I don't know how the future will unfold yet I have done everything in my power to not be exposed to gambling anymore. I have opted for self exclusion for an indefinite amount of time meaning you can't go back that easy even in the case my desire to gamble overtook my decisions and rational part of me so I am hoping that things will stay this way although many years I have expressed the same desire and not achieving real results, so I hope this New Year hits different for me.

I think that many did and even if we've told that to ourselves, it's all about lessening the gambling activities instead of fully stopping doing it.

I don't think that whoever tells that will instantly going to stop. But, this isn't part of my new year's resolution.

Not that much about the gambling activities that I have been doing because, I think that I am just fine and not in a worse addiction.

although i made no such promise, i will quit gambling in the new year, gambling didn’t affecting to me, i am playing it not for make money,
gambling is entertainment i think, so i didn’t stop gambling, but if i am not addicted in gambling, so if i want to stop it, off course it will be possible to me, because it’s not like that i can't survive without play it, who are addicted in gambling, it will be challenging to quite it after promises.

I think a lot of people failed to do it, but the good thing about new years is that people have high motivation which would likely get them to work for instance, going to the gym, stop gambling, etc. it's actually a good step in my honest opinion since this is the time that they are waiting and they already on the first step, the problem is the second step which is continuing or consistency, for something to work, you need consistency and most of the people failed in here. After they've done the first step, they would lose motivation and stop for 1 day, then 2 days, then continue with their old habits.

It would only work if you stay consistent no matter the motivation is low or high, or if you don't give 100% as long as you made process day by day, there's a guaranteed success, it's different when you stop entirely. So don't expect it to work but continue with consistency no matter what your energy or motivation level.

Personally, I've managed to do it right before new year. I limit myself playing (though I play around 3-4 bets per week) but only with the teams I like and it's literally for entertainment. Before, I do it for money but now I my perspective is different and I managed to stay consistent.

Hell yeah, that’s correct. I’m just asking for real experiences here and I get where you’re coming from.
2018 was a rough year, especially watching crypto crash, but I never reached the point where I got so frustrated that I just gambled all my coins away.

Quitting is definitely hard, so maybe the easier and more realistic approach is learning how to be responsible instead.
That alone already solves most of the problem.

well it’s just the 3rd of january so it’s hard to say  but seriously unless you have suffered from a serious issue of gambling addiction don’t be too harsh on yourself and just lessen your gambling habits don’t cut it completely
