I went to fill my gas cylinder today from a big gas station, just like how petrol stations are. The person that is collecting the money and people working in the gas station were talking about the tax. One of them said, they should wait and see how the tax would be collected from them. These people will barely use their salaries to feed their family because it can not be enough.

Extreme poverty tax break down
World Bank sets people living in extreme poverty to earn $2.15 per person per day in, that is around 3150 naira daily, 94000 naira monthly and 1,134,000 per year. 800000 naira will not be taxed but the remaining 334,000 will be taxed.

15% of 334,000 is 50,100 naira. That is what Nigerian government wants the poor people to pay annually.

Our president does not know what suffering is
If you want to eat, how much will you use to eat at a sitting? At least more than 1000 naira. There can be money for health reasons, family like your children. How will such people be able to cope in this kind of situation? What the Nigerian government are doing is not good at all. The president comes from a rich family, maybe this is the reason he is doing all this because he has not known what it means to be suffering before.

The other two poverty lines
There are two other categories of people living below the poverty like. They are lower middle-income poverty line and upper middle-income poverty line. These are what they should earn in a day:

Lower Middle-Income Poverty Line: Less than $3.65 (5300 naira) per day, 159000 monthly, 1,908,000 per year.
Upper Middle-Income Poverty Line: Less than $6.85 (almost 10000 naira) per day, 30000 monthly, 3.6 million per year.

These people are going to pay more tax. I do not know the reason the income tax should not be set to at least 3 million naira tax free because 800000 naira is too small, even people that are poor are earning more than 800000 naira per month.

Your analysis so far is amazing but you see this whole tax refund stuff is one the government has set as a tool in stealing from the poor citizens and giving more pain to the poor, because i still can't get it right how possible this whole thing will work, people that aren't doing any tangible Job perhaps managing to survive their life, to be honest this is the height of it all because with all indication the government will stop at nothing to see us being frustrated.

However, I am not saying paying of taxes is bad but not in a country like Nigeria that has no transparency in our system of doing things, moreover what are we paying the tax from of which I know that majority of Nigerians out there have no job and it is more annoying and frustrating for you to start paying tax from the Minor job you're doing just to eat,  I wish I could help the situation at hand or reach out to upper hands that can call our president to order by reconsidering this his tax wahala and letting Nigerians be.

I understand how concerned you are about poor Nigerians that would be tax but I don't think reaching out to the President would make him change his mind. It is Tinubu style of leadership. If you know Tinubu very well and how he rule Lagos state as Governor, you wouldn't be surprised about his style of leadership. Tinubu when he was Governor tax Lagos state extremely and many business suffered although it makes the statetl to generate surplus revenuen through strict taxes but lagosian suffered heavily for it. The same Tinubu wouldn't listen to any body because that is truly who he is.

Since the tax reform bill was passed in the National Assembly and we later heard that it was re-editted from the initial one summited, we can all see how corrupt the government is, they are not even sincere and considerate in their governance, now coming to tax the people you don't create job for nor have provided skill acquisition for is wrong, where will they get the money you will tax them from?, people that barely feeds due to the hardship in the country.

There are area of priorities that the President should have channeled his concern and attention and that's insecurity and unemployment not wanting to extort people via tax reforms which will make things more difficult for people, we should be aware that most people that stays in the cities has relocated because of hardship and couldn't renew their rents, this are the people the government wants to impose tax on, Nigeria has failed all of us especially the president that we hope will bring change instead he brought much suffering and hunger upon us.

Your points are remarkable and clear, however it’s because of the kind of country we find ourselves else taxation is not peculiar to a particular class, every class are supposed to be tax ideally, though every class has their own tax rate due to their income but such system are only considered when we have a stable economy and when the money generated from the tax would be used for the benefit of the people.

Our president and leaders don’t think before they act, sometimes i wonder who their advisers are, they just jump into making decisions without considering the masses, see a country like Nigeria were many people are struggling with poverty, instead of the country to think about stabilizing things and creating more job opportunities and improving the economy they are busy thinking of how to tax poor people without stable jobs or sources of income, we really need our government to see the plight of the people rather than bring up policies that favor their selfish interest at the detriment of the masses.
