Smoking in front of your children, right or wrong?

I was chilling with my siblings at the rooftop bar section of a hotel when I noticed this man who came on a date with his family and was smoking cannabis freely in front of his wife and two beautiful children of as not more than 5 and 7. It was unpleasant to me because children see their parents as role models and are very fast to copying what they see their parents do. Exposing them to such experience at a tender age reinforces the desire to smoke in them and may even see them start smoking before they are adults, with or without the knowledge and permission of their parents.

Furthermore, there are health implication of inhaling cannabis in their tender body systems. Children can suffer seizures and even breathing problems from cannabis poisoning, it can also cause asthma attacks, unnecessary agitation and even decreased coordination in children. Temporal effects on children can last from 24-36 hours.

I don't condemn smoking as an adult, but it is a better practice not to expose these very tender ones to the harsh physical, health and psychological effects of smoking.

You have not seen some communities before. What you see as something bad, some parents in some communities see it as something not bad. Some parents will give their children to do. Or if they see their children doing it, they will not see it as anything.

Just leave them alone and not judge them. Opinion here will likely be different.

Yeah, doesn't still mean it is the best practice, I am not even interested in the way they see it, rather in its expanded implications on the part of the children, especially health wise, If you go to the ICU sections of the hospitals, you would see little children battling cancer, liver diseases and others and I know such unnecessary exposures and consumption of chemicals stonger than their tender bodies contributes a lot.

It is worth knowing that I am it smoking.

Gone are the days smoking is been condemned in my environment. Currently, everyone sees smoking as nothing because majority of these smokers have money so who are you to tell them it's bad because you're not smoking. That's how the society is, young married couples don't hide smoking from their kids anymore. One thing I have come to understand is that a father might be smoking in front of his kids but none of them will smoke in future. On the other hand, a father might not smoke throughout his lifetime but his son will be a smoker in future.

Honestly i don't expect this to be a question when we all know that this shouldn't be done for any reason, if we chose to live a ruin life, we should then be careful not to transfer bad character to our child or the children around us, we must be sensitive enough not to let negative morals come form us to our children, because we can't afford to start what will later affect us and the kind of future we want to live and such way is not a proper standard for a child's upbringing.

No reasonable parent or guardian will ever smoke in the front of their children or ward knowing fully well that these kids are very much not mature and they try out what they see at some point when they are alone. The things their parents talk to do in their presence is one important factor to joins to build them because they live on holding on to those things and trust me, over the time, they will want to try those things out.

Second hand smoking is even more dangerous than the actual one who smokes. While being a role model is important if it's done in front of your kids. But if you are concerned to the health of the people that surrounds you as you smoke, you'll do it somewhere you are the only one that's present. Because the effect of second hand smoking is terrible. Just have that care the people who's around and if you like to smoke, go to an open area where you'll not bother anybody to breath that second hand smoke.

I know we are living in a free world, but there things we shouldn't doing in front of our children. Children learn very fast, and If I am not mistaken, about 60 to 70 percent of what children learn before adulthood comes from their parents, that's why we have to be very careful of things we do front our children. Smoking is not that really good, that's why I can't encourage anyone around me to smoke. And as the matter of fact, smokers are liable to die young and it is well written on the packs by the manufacturers.
And as for anyone who choose to become a smoker, please don't smoke in front of your children if you don't want them to turn smokers just like you. And know children can turn smokers even if they don't learn it from their parents, but from their friends at least they have become adults by then, and free to make decisions by themselves without their parents.

I agree to this and this should not be something to debate very much on. Kids can easily get addicted and pick interest immediately in what they see their parents doing because they’re their role models from tender age which they’ll follow in their footsteps. Cannabis is injurious to the health and beyond your kids inhaling the smoke, they will also want to try it when you’re not around and think it is normal at their age. Why is not good for a kid should not be allowed to get them exposed to.

In my locality, a families son, two of them have become addicts and one of them is even beyond control and always stealing from home to sell in order to satisfy his urge. The other one is better but also an addict but although he’s working and earning some money. Their father while they were growing up usually smokes in front of them and drinks also, so the kids followed in the footsteps of their father. Even now that the father is not happy they’re addicts, he still smokes and drinks at home but that of his children are beyond control unlike his. This is one of the reasons it is bad to smoke in front of your children.

Firstly smoking is bad for the health, the smoke is really affecting both the smoker, the wife, the children and everyone around them if the smoke is being inhaled. As a father the children will be looking up to him, and children will also look for opportunity to try what they see others doing.

They might be thinking what there father is doing is good, and will want to give it a trial also, and we know that people do easily get addicted to things like this, don’t be surprise that your children are going to grow up to be a smoker. You might not even notice that early because they will be doing that hidden, and before you discover it, then it might already be late because they might have been used to it already.

As a father if you are a smoker, if you already have children, then quit it, but if you can’t, then never smoke when your children are around you.

If you stop smoking around your children, make sure they eat a lot of egg plant, white potatoes, and tomatoes... so that they get the nicotine they miss from being around tobacco smoke. Why? because nicotine protects them from Covid and the bird flu.

I completely agree. Nowadays, I think we get carried away by our impulses based solely on what we see without thinking about the consequences. I try to improve as best I can, but you grow up watching your father figure. Luckily, there are external factors that can also influence you, such as what you see on the internet, what you hear, and any role models you want to imitate will leave a mark sooner or later. But I think the most important thing when you're an adult is to be authentic. The problem is that it is difficult to unlearn bad behavior. I wish I could quit smoking, but many things prevent me from doing so on a daily basis due to the stress I get from work

However, smoking without the habit-forming chemicals that tobacco companies place in the tobacco, is good for you. If you look at the past records from around the world, many people who smoked clean tobacco lived into their 90s. Smoking pure tobacco is good for you.

So they are just living in an illusion and smoking in front of others is a sign that they lack civic sense even if it's their own kid, wife or family. Some behaviours are meant to be strictly hidden in the presence of children, it won't be an issue doing it among adults, seeing their parents indulge in it, might trigger them into starting the same lifestyle at a very tender age, since they don't understand the repercussions, it can lead to excessive usage and abuse.

Let's take the aspect of sex, parents should not have sex in front of their children, it is humanly standard, but children at a young age are not expected to indulge in it, the same goes for smoking.

Yes, this is true in my case. Let me tell you a story, it's not cannabis but cigarette. In our country, the Philippines, you can buy one stick of cigarette in every corner of the street. And at a young age, (but now they implemented that you should be 18 years old and above before you can purchase) so my mother will tell me or any of our sibling to buy her some cigarette and then light it up. So we are exposed early on, not sure if my mother intentionally do that but I don't think so. In short of the era, 4 out of 6 of us smoke including myself because of that experience. Because the 4 of us during gatherings will reminisce stories when we were young and this is one story that struck the most for us. All of us, boys learn to smoke and 2 of our girl siblings didn't. But the good thing is that 3 out of the 4 has quit smoking for good. Me? I have quit it for 5 years now without relapsed.  . There's only 1 who smokes within us, and we are trying to convinced him to stop. But he says he can't when he is working, he is pressured and one way to ease the tension is thru smoking.

So it might be that early experience for that somewhat push me to smoke too.

Clearly, what this proves is that early exposure to certain things in life can definitely shape the direction or habits of a person's lifestyle as his or her life progresses. Children have very curious minds and they pick up on things very fast. The very evident part is that they copy what they see, so it feels normal to them when parents go as far as smoking in front of them. With time they will also give it a try in order to do what they saw their parents doing. Parents should try and be careful about what type of action or habits they display in front of their kids because many of these children will grow up to carry on most of these habits into their adulthood.

This is the case of thousands of Youths in our generation today. When they were young, their parents justified smoking and drinking to the point of stupor as a normal thing to do. They grew up, unaware of the disadvantages of taking them. In the very end, even if they get to know the dangers of smoking, they can stop because at that stage, they have become addicts. At the same time, some kids will grow to stand against what they saw their parents doing.
