I have been pondering over this for a long time now, why the number 777 is associated with slot machines for advertisement, and lots more. Although I play slot games very much, and from the little research and findings I have done, I was able to find some clear thoughts about it  and it states;
777 is used on most slot machines in the United States to identify a jackpot. As it is considered a lucky number, banknotes with a serial number containing 777 tend to be valued by collectors and numismatists. The US Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing sells uncirculated 777 $1 bills for this reason

From my whole research and findings, the number 777 seems to be a symbolic number that is associated with several events in the past and holds much history attached to its existence, which means that way back before modern development, the number 777 has already been in existence, which is associated with luck and people whos number fall into 777 while playing slot games are declared winner of the game.

However, what I am more curious about now is who came up with the number 777 to be a lucky number for slot games and others? This is far deeper than we might think it to be. Maybe any of us here who is in the know can give us some more hints as it relates to the number 777.

Probably not Chinese 'cause for them, 888 is the lucky number. 8 means wealth and prosperity, and so, 888 means triple fortune. Wouldn't that be a much better choice than 777?
As for who coined that 777 on slots, maybe the first person who invented the slots machine? Charles Fey? Although judging by the picture below, it's hard to confirm if there was ever a 777 on his slot machine.

It is true that Charles  Fey was the founder of the slot machine for which he originally named "LIBERTY BELL." but I did not see anything 777 related to him or his machine as inscribed on it or thereabout. The game mechanism was based on "The reel mechanism was based on the principle of random number generators, " which means the likelihood of one choosing their numbers, and if they read the number, the player has won it all, and the prize is given to them.

Just as some already mentioned from previous replies, 777 means nothing to playing slot or our chances in it, but a symbol that shows the presence of slot machines in reference to those that probably started the business aside the inventor, so if you ask me, i will say its a common symbol that identifies the presence of a slot machine in any giving location or settings, people should not think its a lucky number.

I feel these number 777 is a special number. The number 7 signifies a lot of good things. Some things are better left untold, searching for the person who discovered the numbers 777 and the reason why he discovered it may not be important or may not be of help to you at the moment, all I will just tell you is to forget about who found the number 777 and bet or gamble with what you can afford to lose as looking for that will not do you any favour. I have once come across this topic in the history of gambling, and if I remember well, I made a topic on this forum which covered this 777 part of slot games and other historical events of gambling, but unfortunately, this was a  very long time and searching for that topic will take me alot of time, I will search it out though, hopefully the history of this 777 in slot machine will be there..

But then, let me agree wit the op first, 777 was choosen because it's a lucky number, but then, but nobody woke up one morning and decided to choose this number to be treated as a lucky number, an event lead to this number becoming choosen as a lucky number, and that event is what i will try to search out from my post history if it's there.

Charles Fey may have invented the slots machine, but I doubt he let the jackpot number 777 stick till date. I did a little research and no single name came up and that means the numbers 777 were just seen as a unique number and it had to be popularized till date.

Someone may think why not other numbers. I know 666 is associated with the mark of the beast in the Holy books. 888 is symbolic to the Asian culture as a number that signifies wealth, whereas 777 is more of a divine number and it rhymes with jackpot hence why it somehow got stuck in memory and sits in the Goldilocks zone.

I had to do a quick search thinking I’d come up with any good results but couldn’t get anything.

The best I got was how the number “7” was associated with luck and all of that and when things get emotionally charged by people, it will sell forever thus the reason why casinos or gambling sites still use it even when the RNG generator isn’t related to it in the slightest.

I don’t think I have ever thought about this before and I’ll most likely do more research on it (when I have some free time ) and see if I can actually come across something useful that just the idea of it being “psychological attachment”.

In my own opinion, the slot numbers "777" were picked out of random to signify slot games. Maybe nothing much iconic was added to it, not until we start asking questions that seem to have no direct answer.

From my understanding, Carles Fey did not originally use 777 as the iconic number. Western culture made us believe that 7 was a lucky number, but it can be subjective to every culture and belief.
