You said illiterate? Then why are you teaching him again? You don't have to team an illiterate person to invest in bitcoin instead you invest foe him. You can create a separate wallet for the investment but not to give him the seed phrase but you secure everything for him.
This advice is worse than what OP did. You might as well take up mv1986 offer.

I strongly assume you have been sarcastic here because there is no existing offer. Setting up wallets for a person, even a friend, is a stupid thing to do. I have had the same situation, someone asked me to set it up for him, very close friend, and I told him on the phone that I won't do it because even when he gets hacked, I could never prove that it wasn't me who stole it. Just avoid this kind of situations. Introduce them how to set it up themselves as there are many ways to do it. But make sure they bear the final responsibility for their keys.

Oh absolutely, I was being sarcastic. I agree with you 100%. You handled the situation perfectly and I wish OP had down the same. That way he removes himself from being a prime suspect in the event that the wallet is ever hacked. I hate to see relationships ruined because of situations like this.

Never make Bitcoin decision without the presence of a trusted person
Well, you did good, trying to educate him on bitcoin investment. But then you should consider how you discuss about bitcoin or financial dealings in public. You can't trust anyone with your safety, as If they have a reason to attack you, they will take the chance without looking sideways.. the country isn't safe right now and everyone has to keep a low profile of their bitcoin investments.. I don't trust anyone with the security of my funds, so when ever I'm making a decision it's something only I know about.
Also, trust wallet might not be the best wallet for storing his funds.. since he's going for a long term hold investment, he's Gould be using a more secured wallet storage.

Region based exchange? That doesn’t make any sense. Exchanges way person fit buy bitcoin for Nigeria no hard to find. And cost of fees no fit be the problem. I for like make the OP tell us how everything take happen before we start to speculate.

Except purchasing Bitcoin through P2p on these Exchanges is there ones that allowed direct Bitcoin purchase via Naira cards or bank transfer?  If there is; list it.

I once purchased BNB for my ex-girlfriend; fortunately for me, I did not make the wallet; instead, I put instructions on paper and sent them to her, including how to gatekeep her seed phrase. We split up, and a few years later, she misplaced her seed phrase and came to ask how to retrieve it - think the mess I'd be in if I had created it myself.

Involving an illiterate into Bitcoin is a financial burden - whatever happens to their money is 99% on you.

Firstly, the choice of wallet disqualified the whole matter, you would have created a non custodial wallet for the individual instead. It may look like a help you’re offering and you may still be blamed if the individual loose everything in the future as a result of poor security measures and you’re educating an illiterate about bitcoin investment, you really have a whole lot of work to do,probably the illiterate is digitally inclined because even most literate find it difficult to embrace bitcoin investment due to how complex they think it is.Op one of the security tip I don’t agree with is;using of your name or other people’s name as password. In security tip on choosing a strong password it isn’t advised to use your name and date of birth.

I prefer buying bitcoins using p2p on reputable exchanges because I get to regulate my buying/selling price. And yes, things would have been really ugly if you had created the wallet for her especially as you are no longer together. I can imagine the drama.

I do not recommend Trustwallet.
They have recently been compromised: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5570421

My personal experience with Trustwallet was traumatic as well: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5536900

Trustwallet is closed source, so we do not know what is going on behind the app.
It is suspicious.

First rule - don't get yourself exposed to third party wallets seeds phrase, no matter how close you're to the person. If anything should go wrong you'll be the first suspect whether you stored the seeds phrase or not.

I checked the address cause I still have it and the coins are sitting there and lost forever. Got on it at $60

Still from your second point, when we talk about security and privacy, even you should not have access to the private keys or seed phrase, then why writing it down for her in a paper, when she can do that herself and on her own after putting her through the process and not doing it for her.

From his explanations, the person in question, I mean his worker who he is helping to do this is a dumb illiterate, and maybe that's why he helped to do that for her since she couldn't do it or understand anything at all.  But all the same, I still see a lot of danger and it might all bounce on him. Just what if this person makes a big mistake and losses his BTC, he might come for you, accusing you that you have done something fishy to reap him of his savings. Offcourse, you are have put yourself at stake for two battles.  One, he does not know anything about it, and secondly which is most deadly, he is an illiterate, and illiterates behaves in some certain ways when it comes to understanding and handling matters. For me, I think you went too far anyways.

I just wish he/she learns fast and accepts responsibility so you don't get caught up any day

Op e for fine well well if this thread na were you come ask make people tell you waiting you go do for am than this plenty things way you done show am because I no go lie, you no show am well, seeing the big box with a lock on it is even were that seem very funny because even as big as it is it cannot protect the seed phrase because somebody could hijack the box from his room and he cannot recover it again or maybe they stole everything, people doesn't save anything important key on the box, how would you believe that padlock cannot be open without the key?
I never tell him to use the box as a save for his seed phase. Just use it as an illustration to explain how important the seed phase is and how he should try to protect it well to save his coin.

Helping to setup someone wallet may not be a good thing because of security reasons because, you can only explain how to setup the wallet not helping to setup the wallet this has made you to know the security keys to the person you are trying to help which is not a very good thing to do.
I don't think he will be able to do this himself even after teaching him many times. I think the greatest mistake here is writing the seed phrase for him myself

I told him to keep this paper in a very save place(i later explain the importance of what is written in the paper to him)
I hope you told him to have multiple backups of his seed phrase. Since you taught him well enough on how to use a wallet, I think it’s better he moves his coins to a new wallet. That way, you’re free from any accusations of theft if his wallets somehow gets compromised.
Secondly, the wallet choice was terrible, we learn from mistakes. OP hasn't learnt much to give out, maybe asking before offering help would have done better job.
I thought of electron mobile as well doing the process but I'm thinking this may be complex for him to use as an illeterate. Even at first, my plan was to creat a multisig electrum wallet using two signature for the process so that he's coin may be fully secured but there isn't any other person who can hold the second signature (phrase) since his wife is also an illeterate and their kids are still young.

This person is a pure illeterate that doesn't know anything about the space. He just wish to hodl some coin for future purpose. I think using electrum wallet may be complex for him. That is why I used trust wallet for him.
If he fit understand how to use Trust wallet, e go fit understand how to use Unstoppable wallet or Blue wallet.
You keep saying “trusted person” in the OP, you should teach him that he shouldn’t trust so easily. Being your own bank means that you have to take sole responsibility for your funds.
I'm not familiar with both blue wallet and unstoppable wallet. If they have a mobile version, I will check it out. If they are easy to set-up and use then I will see if we can re-visit things all again.

I would have loved to know the kind of illiterate that he is
he is a core illiterate that can't read nor write. This is the reason I decided to open the wallet for him myself.

I can't even invest for him directly. This is highly risky. I already explained the volatility of Bitcoin to him the way he can understand and I want him to gain access to his coin anytime he wishes by clicking on the trust wallet icon. I never think of the risk behind the seed phrase like this during the process. This thread is an eye opener for me and alteast I have learn alot as well.

Region based exchange? That doesn’t make any sense. Exchanges way person fit buy bitcoin for Nigeria no hard to find. And cost of fees no fit be the problem. I for like make the OP tell us how everything take happen before we start to speculate.
Well, this has been the process I often use myself when buying Bitcoin. I believe it will be cost effective than buying directly. I will consider this when next I'm buying Bitcoin.

Involving an illiterate into Bitcoin is a financial burden - whatever happens to their money is 99% on you.
Hmmm, this is what I never think of. Moreover I think I am save since I wrote the seed phrase in his presence and I gave it to him immediately.  With various comment on this thread, I now observe I got it wrong.

I'm aware of Electrum complexity, and advanced features, however, what he plans on doing is to invest. The technical part of using Electrum is different to when you plan to only purchase and deposit into the wallet, even if he had used the Electrum wallet, it is just the same thing as using Trust Wallet to hold, the difference is that Electrum is secured, totally decentralized and open source.

There would be no need of multisig, the most important aspect of security is protecting your phrase, either single or multisig.

CONCLUSION FROM VARIOUS COMMENT
Investment has been done in a wrong way already so all I need to do it to correct my wrong in a possible ways to minimize various risk to my side. Thanks to SatoPrincess who has been an eye opener to a wallet I'm not familiar with. I have access the two wallet, I think blue wallet is the best for this kind of person. Why I prefer blue wallet:
👉👉It is an open wallet which is very easy to creat. It only involves two click to get it done. And I believe any person (even core illeterate) that can navigate his android to watch movie should be able to open this.
👉👉It watch-only wallet ability. This will help him to be in control of his fund (know his balance) with just one click on its icon.

So my plan to correct my wrong are as follows:
1. Re-explain to him how volatile Bitcoin could be. This will make him know Bitcoin investment has its own risk.
2. Explain to him how it could be good hodling Bitcoin for long. This discourage him from quick sale.
3. Direct him to download Blue wallet from playstore on his mobile.
4. Show him how to creat a Bitcoin wallet on blue wallet since it's just two click to creat.
5. I will uninstall the app wallet from his phone and re-install back
6. Now I will ask him to creat it all by himself to see if he can do it
7. If he can't I will keep repeating 4,5 and 6 for him till he get it right.
8. After getting it right, I will get his Bitcoin address from the new wallet he has created himself (with the seed phrase writing and properly save by himself) and transfer his fund from the old wallet to it.

NOTE: I will try to record all our conversation during this process on my phone for future purpose in case of any issue.

I think with this I have done justice to my wrong base on all reply here. Thanks to all who have take their time to read and reply on this thread. Base on this my recent correction and ways I have outline to make a proper investment for him with less risk at my side, I'm still expecting corrections or any other adjustment I needed to add or remove to make things go right more.

Thanks to all once again.

1. Re-explain to him how volatile Bitcoin could be. This will make him know Bitcoin investment has its own risk.
Very necessary, this is the part that illerate investors needs to understand clearly, not thinking Bitcoin investment is a get rich quick scheme where he gets tired and depressed after three months investment and the market conditions become worse thereafter. He may not be comfortable with the emotional pain that may arise.

To be frank, I don't believe telling this illerate how risky it may be is majority, when he passes through it and endure the whole storms makes him stronger.

Which illerate that can fight this emotional battles can actually be given a crown of becoming an investor.

You wrote down the seed phrase for him and gave him to store. Did you think it was all over? Imagine these two possible scenarios;

When OP wants to access his wallet in the near future, should he find you to help him out at that time?

And again, in a moment that you are no more (no one is praying for you to die), who will help OP access the wallet? Dont you think if he asks for help, the person who helps him will take the Bitcoin?
