Once I see a message that is unfamiliar to me and i check the details of the sender, I might not be able to come to a conclusion that the said person is a scammer but then, as time goes on and we keep conversing, I’ll be able to get loopholes from our discussion.
The chance that someone is not a scammer is low, though, unless we're using context to see if getting messages from strangers should be a common occurrence for you. For example, if you're running a business in this forum like a campaign manager, then you'd expect some random numbers contact you here and there.

That being said, though, if they're legit messages, they'll probably tell you what they're after on their first DM instead of saying "hi" and waiting for your response hours later.

Without any business runs in the forum, receiving PMs from strangers especially from people who don't have any business here and with low member rank, there is very high possibility that such PMs are sent by scammers.

Forum already has a red reminder when forum users received PMs from newbies. If people ignore the forum reminder and are scammed by newbies, it's their full responsibility.

If users want to avoid annoying PMs from newbies, they can customize their profile settings.
In response to the annoying PM spam, you now have to opt into receiving PMs from newbies. The option is in your PM preferences. You also can't send PMs to newbies if you haven't opted in. Copper members are exempt, but only if you're wearing the copper membership.

You should opt into receiving newbie PMs if you post offers in the marketplace, if you like answering newbie questions, if you're a moderator, etc.

To start with, if you sent a PM to a newbie in the last 30 days, you're already "opted in".

Have you been receiving such messages? Then block them directly instead of wasting time with them. I am sharing this because I received a couple of messages recently. So I think Telegram scammers are popping up again to make us fools. Though everyone would be aware of these scamming methods, it's just to remind you once again.
---
Their message patterns are the same. They will ask for some details, and then they will offer something greedy. In the meantime scammers will try to motivate you either to invest or may ask for tradings, etc. Somehow they will scam or hack your funds. So better block them directly when receiving such messages from an unknown account.
I don't want to call it as "weird" but more on "random" types of messages because... they really are just random DMs from random strangers. Cheesy

Anyway, I've received the same types of messages on a monthly basis, and it's not only related to crypto trading. There are also times where they're saying that they're giving some kind of work where the task is very easy, but they'll be paying you very high and for most of time, unrealistic. More like a "work scam" or I don't know the exact name of that one, but they'll require you to deposit money in order to withdraw the money that you earned thru working which will just end up as a scam.

Telegram is a den for scammers, same with Discord so the 2 things that you can do is to just ignore, or block them... or maybe there's a third one, and that's entertain them, but don't fall into their scam trick. Just to entertain yourself maybe if you're bored. Cheesy Newbies here, please beware of these random strangers DM'ing you out of nowhere, and always think, if it's too good to be true then it's not true. Smiley

Those are indeed random DM. I have also received messages like that several times. I don't even bother replying to such messages.
But have you ever come across a DM sender like that who uses the profile and name of a famous person or someone who looks professional? Because I have received messages like that several times.

I don't know where they actually choose random Telegram accounts to send messages to. I don't have a random group on my Telegram account.

I’ve been receiving a lot of those messages too. Sometimes they pretend to be a dev right after you join an official channel. But the funniest part is when you get a DM from a real dev because of those 'rank your holding' bots. If they see you are a whale or a shark, they might message you just to try and stop you from selling or to boast about how good the project is.
It’s kind of annoying how they watch everyone's bags like that. It makes me want to stay quiet and not use those bots at all.

I've been using Telegram again for a while now with a new account(I abandoned my old one since I get a lot of DMs from random people) and have not received any messages from unknown accounts. Also, I guess the reason for that is that I am only part of two Telegram channels, which mostly consist of people from this forum.

If they see you are a whale or a shark, they might message you just to try and stop you from selling or to boast about how good the project is.
Here's how it works:

The bot networks hang out behind real Telegram accounts that are linked to channels of various crypto projects, for example. The more open the channels are, the easier it is.

The real Telegram accounts are then used to read user data and listen for messages such as "support". These people are then automatically contacted and/or the lists of accounts are collected and sold on the darknet.

You can try this out for yourself very easily. Just join a crypto project's Telegram channel and write "I need support." In no time at all, you will receive a lot of DMs pretending to be support from crypto project XYZ and offering to help you (or scam you). However, these users are not actually in the channel themselves, but receive this information via the main account.

I know there are bots behind many of these systems, but I had a strange experience with this in 2021. After buying a significant amount of a token, I joined its Telegram group. They had a ranking system that asked holders whether they were a “whale,” “shark,” “octopus,” or “anchovy.”
After I marked myself as a whale, the real developer actually messaged me directly. It wasn’t a bot — it was a real person trying to convince me not to sell quickly because they claimed the project would be listed on Binance in 2022.
Looking back, it feels crazy that a developer would personally message holders just to encourage them to hold. It shows how closely some teams monitor their investors. Since then, I’ve decided to stay quiet about the size of my bags

been also receiving messages from unknown people, the best solution is to blocked them immediately, no need to be curious because if you make a mistake like clicking a link accidentally or being curious that would result to something big in the future.
They are not popping they are already there they are just looking for a possible target or victim the moment you interact that would even go beyond, and I'm afraid some people really fall for it, and they also invited or join by their families and they are all been scammed in the end, so if someone you did not know message you about something, or saying he is this and that, blocked it automatically.

Also, I guess the reason for that is that I am only part of two Telegram channels, which mostly consist of people from this forum.
This also happened to me. From that, I concluded that when a stranger sends us a private message it's usually because we've joined a crypto channel. I have two Telegram accounts one isn't affiliated with any crypto channels and no strangers have sent messages. The other Telegram account has never joined any crypto channels and no strangers have sent messages.

This also happened to account X. While frequently commenting on crypto accounts and following many accounts discussing crypto, my account X received numerous messages from strangers offering various crypto projects, which I believed were scams. Therefore, when receiving private messages from strangers it's best to ignore them or block them immediately. It's no surprise that there are many scammers in the crypto world, as the crypto world and scammers are inseparable their patterns of seeking victims are always the same. So, be careful and meticulous when opening private messages from strangers.

In the meantime scammers will try to motivate you either to invest or may ask for tradings, etc. Somehow they will scam or hack your funds. So better block them directly when receiving such messages from an unknown account.

Only the newbies and greedy people are the ones that will fall for this scam, I received many messages in telegram and I have never for once reply them because I know it is all a scam, they are doing all this to get the attention of those greedy people who are eager to make it by force, when you are someone who is holding bitcoin or you invest in a coin, you have to be careful and be smart because they can use anything to make sure they get your attention.

Telegram has become a very dangerous place because that is where scammers see as a good place to get the attention of people, i don’t reply anyone on telegram because of the scammers who have make the place look somehow for people, it is still a place to communicate but we should be careful and not reply anyone who send us link or any unnecessary messages.

Telegram exposure can as well attract scammers of this kind, telegram is the least space anyone will communicate business deals comfortably without having an extra thought due to how corrupt the system is, firstly no filter and the report option will not help completely except block option. I haven't encounter messages like this meanwhile if such happens I will definitely identify the motive behind investing and trading scheme, whenever they come with words enticing most commonly they always add pressure although the story I read on X relating to this, the person in question failed to identify quickly so he got scammed.
