As you know, or as some of you may know, I'm working on a custom extension for the BitcoinTalk forum.
Bitcointalk Extension - All In One - Update V3 -2025

This requires a lot of testing on the site to ensure the extension functions correctly and to identify any potential errors.
Recently, I had a problem with the extension and was testing the new editor. I was copying and pasting random text to see how it would appear in the preview. I clicked the "Reply" button on a random post and copied and pasted several random texts to check the result and see if there were any formatting issues. Instead of clicking the "Preview" button, I clicked the "Reply" button and the result was fine, but the post was random and unrelated to the topic so I deleted it immediately.

I don't know if the topic remains in the administrators' trash folder, and here a question came to my mind: why isn't there a "trash bin" for users who sometimes have to delete their posts or delete them by mistake, so that they can be accessed later and either restored or permanently deleted?

I believe your drafts section serves as your personal trash bin, as long as you preview them as you type, they are automatically saved as drafts which you can always reference later. You can post it again or leave it deleted. I make it a point of duty to always preview posts as I make them, that way I don't have to loose them, I can even access previous versions from the drafts section in case I am not liking my new modifications.

I don't see much need for that actually when we have tools to retrieve deleted posts on the forum.

One thing I can think out of it is loading, since the forum already has a trash folder where I believe only the admin and mods have access to it.

It could also be added to individuals. But for the sake of saving the forum, some load that option is not made available, but our draft can always serve as our trash. Since you have already published that post, it's saved in your draft for a specific period until you reach the max number, which is also the same thing if we have personal trash there will be time limit to when it all get wiped out the difference is that you can't reverse it unless you manually post it back.

Maybe you can try using the preview shortcut (alt+p) to prevent this from happening again. Wink

Your post reminded me of this topic from fillippone: RECOVERING the ORIGINAL version of an EDITED Post. I don't think a personal trash can is necessary, since the drafts page already works pretty well in retrieving the full bbcode version of your recent posts.

Whenever you mistakenly post on the forum and delete it as it doesn't relate or corelates with the topic you created, you can find them back using Nijastic.space as an Archive or something so.. that is why that tools is being deployed to help forum users. Another one I noticed is your draft, assuming you are making post and you previewed it initially it would remain on your draft and when you click on draft you would see all your previously reviewed post over there. But however, I believe the admins or mod do also have a general overview of how all activities goes on the forum and also already deleted posts and topics which they could have a trash scan.. I could be wrong.

We can achieve this in several ways if we wish to explore how the feature could work. Firstly, we can use a third-party non-jastic space tool, and secondly, through the use of the draft button. At the same time, lastly, we can also consider the off-topic section as a trash can, some threads are being dumped, so if all these are in place, then I don't see more demand for us to have a trash can aside from the ones that already serve a similar role.

All you posts are automatically saved to you drafts whether or not you preview them first. This serves as your trash can for 7 days which is enough time for anyone to decide if they want to return to a post they made.

Here is a tool by TryNinja which auto saves your drafts while typing; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5480688.0
This protects you from losing your texts while you're still typing them if you're making long content.

There's a Trashcan and it's only visible and accessible to the mods but only the admin can restore deleted posts/threads on the forum.

Why recover it? Can't you just copy from the archive and recreate the post?

Btw, what's up with your posts at a different color and size? People often do not like this. Tongue

There's a Trashcan and it's only visible and accessible to the mods but only the admin can restore deleted posts/threads on the forum.
I believe he wanted a trashcan where everyone can make use of and not just a select few.
I haven't really taken too much thought of having a "trash can" or it's necessity since like one of the users mentioned, the Preview option does that trick, saving texts that could be useful later and for a situation of if while typing, something happens that makes the page get refreshed, a work that has been previewed can be gotten back in "Drafts"

Thank you for the link, it was very helpful. I actually found it. But can it be recovered? Can it be permanently deleted or erased? My point is this: why can't each user have their own trash bin, where they can view their deleted posts and have the option to restore or delete them?

Why recover it? Can't you just copy from the archive and recreate the post?

Btw, what's up with your posts at a different color and size? People often do not like this. Tongue
Thank You @TryNinja to bringing this to my attention
In fact I mentioned at the beginning of my post that I am working on the BitcoinTalk forum extension and conducting a lot of tests to ensure that such errors don't occur.

The latest update includes an advanced HTML editor, while the forum's default editor is in BBcode, as you know. This leads to unexpected behavior due to the conversion from HTML to BBcode, affecting colors, sizes, and other code. Many problems have arisen; I've resolved some, and others I may have missed. So thank you for the valuable observation.

Would you advise me to remove the editor from the extension and stick with the original one? I also believe many members won't appreciate these changes.

I don't see anything wrong with a custom editor, as long as it works fine. I actually tried creating one myself but never finished due to other priorities. It would definitely help people creating big threads full of tables and bbcode.

I don't know if the topic remains in the administrators' trash folder, and here a question came to my mind: why isn't there a "trash bin" for users who sometimes have to delete their posts or delete them by mistake, so that they can be accessed later and either restored or permanently deleted?
It's not a trash can for forum users, but the page for drafts can be somewhat helpful when you want to find something you composed or posted recently.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts

There are limitations with the draft page.

Up to 100 drafts are kept. Drafts are deleted after 7 days.

I want to believe that you've really said my mind because those features on the Op's propose "TRASH CAN" is similarly to what the forum DRAFT may alternatively serve as even though it's not tagged as the TRASH CAN.
And for all, you can preview post before sent and it automatically stores in the likely Draft like a personal notepad feature in the forum which you can always delete anytime you want. So if the Draft can have these operations, then there shouldn't be a worry to create extension as the TRASH CAN. my opinion though.
