I see this post for Facebook and after I read am I con dey some how convinced about this pride price thing, some men dey use am as a means to treat the woman as dustbin like women no get value to some men at all after them don pay that big amount for her head. Even if man nai dey pay for woman head e no mean say him as the man go begin see the woman as material wey him buy instead of to see her as a soulmate, treat her well.
For me I even see this pride price as another style of legal human trafficking, yes na we dey sell our daughters to another man to build him family, some go build the family in a better way no insult or abuse while some go add am abuse. If some men marry woman enter house the woman value don reduce like naira. Make I stop here, how una see this matter?

For me oh, paying of a woman pride price na the best and the right thing to do because na so our Bible talk am and na so e surpose be if you be person way dey responsible as a man, if no be say some families come they carry am as a medium of opening account for their self, as in them go carry all their real life problem carry put for the Man head all because e decide to come marry their daughter and e dey very bad.

Things like this fit dey make men dey maltreat their women after marriage because after the man start to dey remember the way the woman family take rake am em mind go dey spoil for were the woman dey but I no justify am at all and that one self no surpose be the reason a man go dey do em own wife anyhow.

I agree with you oh but na this same pride price wey make some men wey no get up to that amount wey them call go pull out from the marriage, because I no fit pay or I no get that amount no mean say the girl parents go make man look like him no dey responsible. Honestly some family dey use am extort others and some men dey use am feel like women na trash. And e no good at all. But we can't really abolish it.

Paying of bride price and other marriage settings are things that make our tradition unique and sweet. What some of those men fail to understand is that you're not buying a woman when you pay bride price. Bride price signifies a bond between the two families. This is why it is returned when the marriage breaks down totally. It has cultural significance that has nothing to do with buying a wife.

What we should do instead of abolishing it, is to ensure that we teach our children the real essence of paying bride price. We should educate what it signifies. It will really go along way in eradicating the bad narrative those silly men have made it seem.

On the issue of families extorting suitors, every tribe should have a uniform amount of bride price which shouldn't be high and must make sure anyone who defaults is punished. By so doing, no one would go beyond a certain amount. Most tribes have though, but they don't have punitive measures. They don't punish people that deviate from the standard price.

Bride price have significant effect and we shouldn't just abolish it because some men are abusing it. We're Africa, we're unique.

Every state has their marital rites and tradition regarding marriage and where I come from the bride price isn't much, I have seen many pictures of people posting materiel things and clothing on social media that the families of the bride demanded such from them and I don't think that's totally true.

The way a man treats a lady is dependent on his character, bride price has nothing to do with it, there are men that have issues to sort out before thinking of getting married, because the money and other items use during traditional marriage can never be the reason why a man should beat or treat his wife badly, when the traditional marriage list is presented to any man is left for him to continue or stop if he is not ready enough to marry from that particular tribe. It has never been a do or die affair, every marriage list is always negotiable aside the main bride price which is always small every other thing is just for the celebrations and it can never be the reason for the animosity of some men.

Some men are inhumane even when in a relationship and a lady will ignore the red flags thinking things will get better once they're married and it will just get worse, we have a tradition and culture that has been there even before we were born, and this bride price no matter how small signifies a big deal, so a man treating his woman poorly or families extorting from the grooms people has nothing to do with bride price, it's a character and greed problem and not the fault of our tradition.

Have a friend that their bride price is just #60 and any other thing in that family list is just for the ceremony and things the elders, uncle's and family women will use for their celebration. We're leaving the most important things about marriage which is focusing on the individual, getting to know who you intend to marry and the family involved, so many people are marrying for the wrong reasons and that's why divorce rate is high and bride isn't the issue at all.

 You know, every country get their various traditions them dey uphold as it comes to marriage and  for the case of naija, nah bride price wey a man must pay before him go fit marry the woman of him choice but then, some people dey gauge the financial strength of a man when them bring bride price.  Although, another factor to consider nah if the man and woman no mature upstairs, e no go matter whether the bride price factor dey considered or not, cause them go wan misbehave and feel like say them dey the other person a favor by coming into the marriage.

I no see any bad thing for bride price since na culture and na beta tin to follow tradition, for my place, if you no pay bride price and una dey born, all de pikin dem wey she born for you na her family get dem, so dat one dey.

I actually agree with this. I would rather say that the way most people take it as a way out of poverty is very bad this also discourage most men which aren’t financially stable not to marry who they want to.

And again that of a man maltreating his spouse because of what he spend before marry or whatsoever. I would say a man that truly loves his wife can never do such a thing to his beloved wife and again my advisable to my beloved sisters is for them to have somthing doing stop being dependent it will really help allot. Bride price is the pride of a woman when it has to do with marriage, no matter how rich a woman is and the marriage right is not performed for her, she finds it difficult staying with other women no matter the money you spend on unnecessary borrowed culture like white wedding. If you are saying because you came across that post on Facebook and you had a second thought about it and maybe fell for it claiming that Bride price should be scrap, how then do we give our daughter's hand in marriage and what price will be paid for one to get married ?, Common we can't just give out our child in marriage and not take any dime for it, this has being the laid down tradition from time immemorial and it can't be barred.

Marriage has a spiritual backing from our fore fathers and God who said a Man will leave his household and get married to a woman and they will become one flesh, despite the bad behavior of most Men that get married there are still beautiful marriages out there, marriage should be all about mutual understanding, respect and submissiveness from the wife. The way the person dey para post that thing fit facebook e be like say them show that person shege banza or na waiting them they collect for bride house dey pain am, bride price na legal thing to do before you get wife because no body go just dash their daughter out all because of love wey you love her, they no dey do like that, as the person no want make them Dey pay bride price, na him help them feed the girl until when she grow up and want to marry her? Or na him carry the girl belle for complete nine months? Some people go just dey talk without no reason the matter first.

We know say marriage now no be small thing but bride price na compulsory, in fact, anybody wey no pay waiting them ask him to pay for bride house make them suffer him before him go see the girl marry and if he said he no get money to pay then he never ready to marry, marriage no be by force, if the person no wan marry make him go rest cause i no see any reason why person go just wake up and create post say make them ban or cancel bride price, if him get sister make him tell him people say make them no collect money from the groom hand and see waiting them go do am for the house .

I know in some community bride price is now became one of the major reasons of why some men are treating their wife unnecessarily.
So as for a reasonable human being paying a huge or small amount of money as bride price doesn't mean to treat her in a bad way. And also are you expecting to marry a girl or take her away from her family with out paying some amount to the bride family or to the bride her self I think that sounds somehow. It's impossible to cancel bride price even in our religions paying bride price is mandatory because I believe both bible and Quran talked about it.

despite that in some religion or culture the property or amount provide as bride price is given to the girl and that doesn't mean that family is selling their daughter or the girl is selling her self to you to do what ever you like.
