Superstition can be mistakenly be beneficial. But I have seen it ruin more people than help them. If it can be geared towards a positive result then it's ok. But I would advise anyone to stay away from superstitions. The father in question knows his son that he might still gamble if I tell him the truth. So he rather used superstitions to do the job and still failed. At the end of the day, the truth is only thing that can set someone free.

Yes, many people may think in many ways, but I think that superstition can never help in winning or losing in gambling. Superstition is never able to change the outcome of gambling, it can only change the thinking of a gambler. Gamblers who believe in superstitions or bet on them will never be able to win money in gambling. Naturally to win in gambling a person needs proper research as well as strategy and finally luck plays a big role there is no place for superstition here.

Yes, sometimes, but often not because gambling is all about luck. His father probably said that because he already knew what the outcome would be. He's now an out of control gambler, not because of superstition, but because he lacks discipline.

I also believe in lucky charms or certain rituals because they're already part of our culture. But in reality, they don't do anything to improve our chances of winning. This story got me sober and I remembered my dad and his superstitious believe about alcohol and smoking. He claimed that our family doesn't support smoking or drinking and one runs mad if he decides to engage in such. Over time his belief has always played out. Prior to this era, anyone of them that attempted smoking has gone mad and the newer generations now don't want to go mad. Generations has gone past and no wan so alcohol nor smoke. Fast forward to our days, we choose our course and life goes it's way. I sometimes take some sips and wonder how funny I could be as a mad folk, but guess what, it has never happened.

Superstitious believe for me only work for whoever believes it and as long as you are cautious about your gambling habits, life will go a different way somewhere days,but as a gambler, you are away that some days you win and other days you lose. I agree with this because although this is also related to suggestion but on the one hand I feel that superstition in gambling is just a kind of intuition so that we are more confident but not too influential on the results.

Many gamblers perform some rituals in the hope that they can get lucky especially when trying to play at slots or at the lottery but it's all the same where they just do unnecessary things.

The saddest part is how those gambling superstitions are pretty much embedded in cultures and countries where gambling is an important part of both, their economy and their way to get some money to cope with their poverty.

There are superstitions that are not gambling related, however people believe in them and follow them. Most common that I know are broken mirror (if you break peace of it or there is a crack, you must throw it away, or you will face great unluck), black cat passes in front of you (bad luck), finger crossed (a hope for positive outcome). Why do people place a bet, then cross fingers and pray to win. I know that superstitions dont work, but if they give psychological comfort, then why not use and believe in them?

Saying that they are one unlucky family is a crime, that's like turning it into a permanent family problem, it sound like a curse calling your own family an unlucky one, or maybe he meant to say they are unlucky when it comes to gambling, this is more acceptable.

Thats why when dealing up with gambling then dont make yourself delusional on which you do really believe that you can alter or affect on how lucky you would be at the moment that you do gambling. It all matters on someones mentality on how they would really be that believing whether they are really that playing for fun or really that making it as an income. It's called magical thinking. I know a lot of people with magical thinking (people interested in esotericism and other such things). Sometimes I ask myself, "How do these people even manage to survive believing in such nonsense?" But the fact remains: not only do these people survive, but they often live not much worse than intelligent people with logical thinking and a scientific view of the world.
