Mother of five dies

Aishatu Umar, a mother of five, died after suffering complications from surgery she had at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano State.
A preliminary investigation by the Kano State Hospitals Management Board found that a pair of surgical scissors was mistakenly left inside her body during the initial operation
She experienced severe abdominal pain for months after the surgery and was often given only painkillers, without further proper medical investigation.
Scans later revealed the foreign object, and plans were made for corrective surgery — but she died before it could take place.
The hospital management board confirmed the case as medical negligence.
Three health workers involved in the procedure have been suspended pending further investigation
The matter has been referred to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for a detailed review and possible sanctions.
