Donald Trump said eight European countries face 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland

Is Russia or China now the problem or the United States for having a leader like Trump? Trump said that Greenland will be taken over by China and Russia but reports said it is not true. Trump wanted lands and minerals and that is the reason he likely wants to taken over Greenland.

He is making the European countries to be the United States enemies.

Quote
https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2026/jan/17/hands-off-greenland-protests-denmark-us-donald-trump-europe-latest-news-updates
Donald Trump has said “world peace is at stake” as he unveiled 10% tariffs on European countries opposing US plans to acquire Greenland.

Posting on Truth Social, the US president said:

We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake!

Trump concluded his post by saying the US is “immediately open to negotiation with Denmark and/or any of these Countries that have put so much at risk, despite all that we have done for them, including maximum protection, over so many decades”.

Why are people with power doing this? He knows that United States is greater in power than the European Union right now and he wants to use the opportunity to be attacking them. This is not fear, I see him more as a threat to the world. If United States has even being about taking nations land like huge part of Mexico, maybe Canada will be next after Greenland.

Europe need to strengthen their military, they have really been sleeping. Trump is only bullying them and try to use his bullying to take over Denmark land.

The population of Greenland is well under 100,000. Greenland doesn't have a military, and Denmark doesn't have the strength to protect her. The idea that Greenland is an autonomous nation flows out of the agreement in the UN, that people in a locale can select/decide their own allegiance or independence.

If Trump can influence the people of Greenland to accept the US rather than Denmark, the UN will back them. However, if the people don't accept Trump... Trump is already backing out of NATO and certain agencies of the UN. Who will stop the US?

Could it be Greenland at the core of WW3, and not Russia?

I think we are the stage where European union will start having tension with the United states. They are already getting fed up with the way America has misbehaving, imposing tariffs in your closet allies, isn't that dumb? What if because this the European union now decides to start negotiating with Russia and China. I don't know what Trump is after in Greenland, he is just giving lies that Russia and China will soon take over it, and there's no prove to that. This week Canada Pm which is US neighbor went to China to make a trade where both reduced their tariffs on each other, where the Canada Pm said there is a new world order, in the Sense that he is referring to China as the new leader.  US suppose keep their allies at their hand not making things hard for them. This Greenland issue might lead to war between the Nato members.

Wild times we're living in.

Looks like the US and EU are going to enter a trade war. Considering the UK has been one of Americas biggest allies, I find this quite surprising. I think in the past 30+ years we've entered in joint military actions and our government has been very cautious in speaking out against the US.

Plus, the fact that the US were one of the founders of NATO in the first place, and this kind of undermines it.

Trump is already backing out of NATO and certain agencies of the UN. Who will stop the US?
The entirety of NATO. If a country is declared on, then all other NATO members automatically are called into a coalition against the aggressor. So, pretty much the whole of Europe.

Lets hope it doesn't come to that.

Trump appears determined to continue adding pressures for to annex Greenland to the United States. Rules within the Nato alliance stipulates that alliance forces must assist Greenland if it is attacked by a country from outside the alliance. However, the rules do not specify what the alliance should do if the aggression comes from within Nato itself, and from the leader of the Nato alliance.

I see this the most strange situation that a country want to force another country to sell itself. And that country can't resist the USA pressures despite supported from almost all countries as I didn't hear anybody supporting Trump invasion plan.

This Greenland saga has pure proof that countries with bigger military power can use their arsenal to mount pressure on weaker nations. Imagine a country that prides itself on being the most civilized and democratically outstanding nation! acting like a bully towards other nations, just because they disagree with your backward request. Tariffing European countries just because they oppose your negative plans and somehow he will consider that a form of negotiating strategy, Greenland belongs to Denmark and trying to hijack it from them is a pure breach of international law!! If that still exists anyway.
