Lately I’ve been thinking about something that doesn’t sit right with me.

In this country, it feels like once a young person starts making real money, instead of being encouraged, they’re automatically treated like a suspect. You see teenagers or youths doing well, and the first reaction from authorities is not “how did you build this?” but “you must be into fraud.”

I’m aware that the crime rate in our country is high, but that doesn’t mean every youth who makes money early is a fraudster. Instead of encouragement, we are now being frightened, and this is making many of us lose courage and avoid sociopolitical participation. Where I live, the armed forces in my community don’t even bother with proper questioning, they simply take you to their barracks or station, knowing that once you get there, your money will most likely be taken from you before you are released.

Many young people today are freelancers, traders, programmers, content creators, crypto investors, or business owners who simply used the internet to change their lives, yet the system refuses to recognize that.

It almost feels like the government and armed forces don’t want us to succeed early. They prefer that we stay struggling and dependent. The moment you try to rise above that, you become a target.

What they should be doing instead is creating policies that support youth entrepreneurship and help young people become productive and independent. That way, a young person wouldn’t have to enter a new area and first ask, “do police usually arrest youths around here?” even when they are doing legitimate work. But instead, they choose intimidation and suspicion, and that sends a very bad message.

So I keep asking myself: what do they really wish for us?
Do they want young people to innovate and build the economy, or do they just want us to remain poor so they can stay in control?

These days it is very difficult to differentiate the difference between a fraudster and a young person making money legally because they both seem to have the same lifestyle and they both spend lavishly so you shouldn't blame the authorities for being confused, their should be a difference between both and many young people of these generation. Their wish for the younger generation that are doing well for themselves is to live responsibly and also dress the way you want to be addressed, you can't dress like a gangster and expect the authorities to ignore you when you are seen in public. If you are not a fraudster and you have full proof of how you make your money then you have nothing to worry about as a young person even if you are being mistaken for a fraudster.

So I keep asking myself: what do they really wish for us?
Do they want young people to innovate and build the economy, or do they just want us to remain poor so they can stay in control?

I don't know the country you are referring to, do you mind mentioning your country's name so we can get a clearer picture of what you are saying?

By reading through your post, I understand that the young rich kids or young adults in your country are always being troubled, harassed and oppressed by the government, you made mention of traders, freelancers and social media influencers as the people that are intimated by government. I'm seeing a pattern here, what's happening in your country is also same thing that is happening in my country Nigeria.

In some cases, I really used to blame the rich young adults, not that the police, army or a force man is right in what ever they do to this young rich dudes but as a young rich dude, if you make a lot of money at a young age, you have to get a legal backing, you should be able to have a detailed proof of your source of wealth which must not be tied to fraudulent activities. As a rich young adult, you can enjoy yourself and have fund while piping low, you don't have to show yourself to the government if you don't want to be noticed but if you also want to he noticed, you have to be prepared for anything.

In my country, there's a social media influencer with the name "Very dark man" He was arrested and detained for weeks by the EFCC and what the EFCC wanted to do to him was to link him with any crime or lay a false accusation on him but he was innocent and with the legal backing of his lawyer, he sailed through and was released without any crime linked to him.  That event made me understand the important of having a legal backing and also staying clean or smart.

No system in any country would allow activities to go untaxed. Any unlicensed activity is inherently illegal because it is not subject to taxation. Law enforcement in any country monitors those whose sources of income are unknown to hold them accountable and ensure there are no illicit funds. Legally, this is permissible, and the authorities cannot be criticized for doing so. The problem in our countries that the system doesn't regulate all kinds of activities. In my country, Uber can't work and Paypal/Visa/Master are not supported so we can't even use online stores like Amazon or Aliexpress.

May I ask if that’s actually the law in your country? Because in ours, the law applies to everyone, whether you’re young or old.

And honestly, a lot of young people today are already very successful because they’re resourceful. The internet is now a major part of our lives, and there are so many opportunities that rely on online work. Maybe some countries haven’t fully adapted yet to new trends and technologies. They still think opportunities are limited to what their own country can offer. With the internet, people sometimes forget that opportunities can cross borders, and young people can find work even if those opportunities don’t physically exist in the country they’re living in.

Such of authorities suppressing young people's growth like that are usually those underdeveloped countries where technologies hasn't been a trend there due to lack of facilities to educate the youths of the country.
Basically is due to poor revenue and lack of economical plans. Also as corrupted community where the governments are always feeding fats on citizens funds maybe by increasing taxes or extorting them unjustly.
It's a madness for such governments qi we questioning how the youths are financially exploring in this digital era where internet is almost accessible everywhere while development has also gone digitalized.
