I noticed a lot of graduates finding it hard to find a job even after some time of graduation. They now have degrees but they can't seem to penetrate the workforce. It is not just about what you finished. A bachelor's degree is simply a title to show that you have some adequate knowledge and to some extent training in that particular field but what most graduates lack is experience. Students who were able to get part-time jobs even while studying have a more well rounded CV. Even if the part-time job is not exactly aligned with what you studied, you can still highlight the skills that you can use for the job you are applying for.

An impressive and a well rounded resume will get you a job.

This depends on your skillset and how you can market yourself.

It is no easy, I know. The initial grind is the toughest. Better to talk to seniors in your line of work and try to find out how they managed, heck even someone of them might be in a position to offer and apprenticeship.

Another way is to look at the government job offerings that come on different online sites in many countries. These are local and often need to verified physically.

Just by dropping your CV will not always work, you often have to twist your personal connections and put in a good word through someone to get a job.

yes, this is something most young Nigerian adults do not believe about getting a job and many of them keep saying the only way you can get a job is by knowing somebody. While I’m not just going to outright lay say no to that, there is a way you still package yourself that you will be considered by the prospective employer.
Where I see most of our young graduates are getting it wrong is the generalization of such claims that the only way you can get a job is by knowing somebody but this is mostly applicable to government jobs and not even all of them, there are some government companies and parastatals that pick candidates based on their qualifications and experience. Then most private employees also look at CV, how organized it is how useful or relevant your claims in the CV are to the organization and it is based on that they employ you to their company. So it I have the opportunity, I will encourage all Nigerian graduates in the labour market to learn through online videos and short courses how to become sought after by an employee just by going through your Resume or when it is put into the software, you will be favored.

It is important to have a good CV and experience when you are still an undergraduate, but even with that, you can still find it difficult to get a job. What I will suggest is look for a good recruitment agency and let them help you find the kind of job you want. The problem with this is that most of the agencies are bullshit, but if you're able to find a good one that actually cares about your growth, and if you pay their fee, they can help you look for a job.
These guys know companies or firms that are hiring, what they need and how much they pay. Some of them even have connections with the companies because the companies notify them of the vacancies they have and ask them to hire people for the role. The only tricky part about this is knowing the authentic ones and being able to afford their fees.
And if you have a good CV, you can also apply on your own to other companies while you are registered with them.
Register on those sites like Indeed, that show role openings in the roles you want and apply. Also, if you don't know how to make a professional CV, you can pay for a professional to optimise your resume and make it look great with a compelling cover letter.

Getting a job as a fresh graduate is hard, especially for those in underdeveloped countries with high unemployment rates so you have to utilise all the tools at your disposal.

If you imagine that the job market is shrinking - because things like automation and AI are taking a lot of jobs that might have offered work in the past - like self checkouts or low level graphics design, then it's understandable that anything which can distinguish you from the next candidate will be beneficial. That means if one candidate has an identical CV to another, except one person has a degree listed that has some bearing on the job, then there is a good chance it may benefit them. Lots of companies above basic fields these days are starting to set a minimum standard of having a degree, which means that you may not even be able to submit an application if it is missing or might be filtered out early on if there is a high volume of submissions. That is the reality, so anyone younger with the chance to do it might find it useful - but pick a good degree, not generic or something like "history" because it might not be helpful.

Skills + college degree is usually enough to land one but the important question isn't how to get one, it is do you actually need one? Nowadays you can spend your money to educate yourself instead of paying for a college education and start your own business instead of becoming an employee. College education usually don't teach you how to start a business, they teach you how become a good employee and once you learn that, it is hard to unlearn it. I have dozens of friends who can't let go of their white collar job because they don't know what todo once they do, they don't know where to start. So, not becoming an employee is not a bug, not a mistake, it is a feature.

Both are needed to get a job. You need a degree as well as your skills. When you graduate from a university with good results, your results and certificates prove that you have studied with sufficient discipline. Which will make you eligible to submit your CV for various jobs. Later, your job will be based on the type of skills you have. If a company cannot make a profit from you, it will never give you a job or will not keep you in the job for long. That is why both degree and skills are needed to get a job. But skills are more important to create a good position for yourself there after getting a job.

Yes you are right, however I will like you to put it very well because getting a job after graduation is very easy what is hard to get is a good well paying job, we have a lot of jobs that are paying very small amount of money but those jobs that are paying good about of money are very difficult to see or get and they are very few.
To escape being jobless after graduation is to have a skill and be creative try to always solve a world or society problem, in our society or in the world we have a lot of issues that needs solutions and when you fine the solution people will pay you for your services, this is what a wise man told me and when I started applying this I started making money. Fine a problem and solve it and see your life turn around for good.

An impressive and a well rounded resume will get you a job.
In my country a personal resume is slightly more important when applying for a job because every company is looking for reliable workers who likely already have sufficient experience. I remember when I was in college, some of my friends worked part-time to build a perfect resume, so that when they graduated, it would be much easier to find a job. Many people actually work outside the scope of their university education, but it's their skills that determine their success in getting the job.

Although sometimes sending a resume alone isn't enough, as companies often have specific qualifications for hiring new employees, I agree that experience is sometimes necessary for anyone to add to their job application, as companies can assess and test our skills before offering them a job.

A good CV can help you get a job, but can it actually help you keep that job? What if, for example, you have an impressive CV and someone else applies who has at least 5% real experience in that role but a weaker CV, and the employer decides to put both of you on a trial period. Naturally, the one with more experience performs better and stays, while you end up missing out. Some employers simply don’t have the time to experiment, so they rely more on recommendations and prefer hiring people with experience rather than those with a well polished academic background, which is unfortunately a bad reality. You need experience to get experience, and the only way to gain it is through a job , but first, you actually have to get that job, which is extremely difficult when we’re talking about working in your field

Honestly, I think one of the most important factors for one to get a good job in one's country is to get a good network of friends and contacts when one is at college studying. Like, sure universities are supposed to be places for one to study and become a professional member of society, but they are also places for people to meet others, teachers and future bosses which one could get in touch with and get a job in their company in the future.

That is why one also needs to be social when one is a student, world is big and one does not know what destiny has for us in the future, some companion of us at college could end up being our boss.

Having a good network of friends, acquaintances and professors in college could help one to stand up in a saturated market.

Now we're coming to a point where a merely piece of paper isn't enough for us to secure a job. Graduates come yearly, but the amount of opportunities or job can't cope up that's why we see some graduates that don't get a job immediately.

You know what's worse? I've also seen some graduates where they graduated let's say for example something about technology, but their work is something that isn't related to what course they got and graduated. That shows that the limited opportunity there is on the country or at least in the place itself. Well, at the end of the day, we need to have skill/s that we can offer to clients or employers in order for us to land a job. We can all graduate as long as we go to school, and we have the money, but let's also not forget that some of the graduates doesn't have any skills at all thus, they're having a hard time finding a job. Sad, but that's the reality right now.

Having good network would be fine, but what's better is having a high-paying skill where you can offer to businessmen.

When you have connections, your experience in that field doesn't matter anymore. Only people who have no one to help them must find a way to help themselves by having the necessary experience, certificate, and everything that will land them a job.

I have learnt one thing since I started looking for a job, which is that finding a job does not solve your financial situation. You can always employ yourself if you look at the bigger picture.

There are pros and cons for both part time students and as well as graduates. It's the preference of the company of what they really are looking for.

No matter how skilled a student is and if they have experience working but if the standard of the company is about having a student that have a degree, it will be against to what you think.

And vice versa. I think it's all about how you'll be good in the actual thing but you'll have to show how good you are during the interviews.

One of the reasons for not getting a job after graduation is the lack of practical education. Most companies do not hire someone who does not have experience in the job they are being hired for. But the biggest question here is how will they gain experience if they do not get any job opportunities in the beginning. Especially in developing countries, there is almost no practical education in the education sector, there is only theoretical education, which is not helpful in getting a job. If the institutions had educated them in some practical education according to the demand of the job, then maybe there would have been no problem of unemployment. I remember the history of China's industrial revolution. When they were at the extreme low end of the economy, they stopped general education and took the initiative to educate students in technical education and within a few years they saw negative feedback from it and today, China is currently one of the most economically influential countries in the world. If a person wants to get a job immediately after studying, he should be educated in technical education.

I agree. But the problem is that building relationships is not easy. How can an ordinary person build good relationship with people in positions of power and influence if they do not have a lot of money?

Most people who are not wealthy choose to pursue their goals by accumulating experience, qualification, and everything else necessary to get a job. It is not that they do not understand the importance and power of relationships, but rather that they have no way of obtaining them. Easier said than done

Despite being correct, this is nothing new or unique, and every person should have enough sense to understand that experience plays a great role for any person in any field finding a placement somewhere. Whether you are a mechanic, a doctor, an engineer, or a driver that collects trash from the streets, if you have prior experience in the field, you will always be prioritized among other candidates of the same position. So, if someone is studying a particular subject, and have a goal to land a job or do something in that exact field, they should start gaining practical experience about it, instead of just relying or theoretical knowledge.

And, it's not only about the CV, it's about when you actually start working if you are given an opportunity, because those who hire you would want good performance from you, and if you show them exceptional performance, there will be chances that you will get promoted, have a better pay over time, and possibly get more job offers from around the industry because of your performance. ‎The job market is very saturated and it is  not easy for a graduate. Now we have many graduates who are using other means to survive. Some even became rich without using their certificates. I remembered when I first applied for a job , they required a 2-4 years experience in the field and I was shocked because I just graduated. What I will say is that as a graduate you must learn to have a good skills attached with degree, so that Incase there no job, you can use your skills to feed yourself. That's just the best thing to do now.

Getting a job is seemingly getting harder as more and more people are going through higher education, graduating and entering the job market. While a good number of job seekers enter the job market seeking employment, the number of people going into retirement are very little hence little vacancy in the job market for the every growing number of people seeking employment.
In developing nations where the unemployment rate is high, any vacancy is highly sought after hence the urgent need to stand out from the host of applicants seeking that same position. Your CV should stand out from the rest so the prospective employer would find it hard to ignore your application. Acquisition of relevant skills as well as refresher courses could help bring your application to the attention of a prospective employer.

Competition got so tought that you need extra skill to apply for the jobs because companies prefer the ones with more skills so they can extra more juice from their employees and pay them in pennies. If everyone who complete their study and looking for a job then who is going to be the employer, they should be trying to run their own business, whatever they graduated, try to create a business out of it that is the faster way to achieve financial freedom.
