Hello everyone,

I’m reporting an issue with an Avalon Q miner and would appreciate input from anyone who has seen something similar.

Timeline and behavior:
Initially the miner worked normally in Standard mode. After switching to Super mode it started overheating, rebooting, and reporting “HASH board failure”. Over time the issue became intermittent and progressively worse.

Current behavior:
Sometimes the miner starts and mines normally for several days. After a power-off or reboot it often fails to start. Hashrate remains at 0 TH/s and “HASH board failure” is shown. Occasionally the miner recovers randomly without any configuration changes.

Actions already taken:
Factory reset, multiple reboots, strong airflow in an open environment, stable power with no manual overclock. Logs reviewed via the app and web interface. The unit was also checked by a local non-official technician.

Environment:
Home mining setup with normal ambient temperatures.

At this point I suspect a hardware-related issue such as a cold solder joint, VRM or power stage instability, temperature sensor fault, or a marginal ASIC that fails when cold and sometimes recovers when warm.

I’m already coordinating a remote inspection with Canaan/Avalon official support, but I’d like to hear from the community.

Has anyone experienced intermittent hashboard failures like this on Avalon miners?
Is this type of behavior typically repairable, or does it usually end in hashboard replacement?
Are there any specific diagnostic steps you would recommend before declaring the board dead?

Photos and logs can be provided if needed.

Thanks in advance for any technical insight.

That's a wrong move; pushing the unit to run hard can decrease the lifespan of your miner, and in the worst case, it could die immediately due to overheating.

Did you try to power the unit directly from the wall outlet? Because sometimes if you use an extension, it can't provide enough power. Or you might be running the unit at 110v outlet?

Why not post the logs first so that we know exactly what's going on?

Logs should give you some insights about the current status of your hashboards and control board. If you don't know how to read the logs, check this link below
