Someone from my community said he quit his job after winning almost 3,000 USD from gambling. Now he is back to looking for a job after he lost all his money. Immediately, I thought that was a stupid decision. 3,000 USD is a huge money but not a life changing one. It is not even that big to start a big business. Most likely he quit his job out of adrenaline and happiness. Do not make big decisions like that after winning a big amount of money. Quit your job if you have successfully built that 3,000 to grow.

How much is his salary?

Some people can use $3000 in some countries to establish a business, but it is truly not as huge as becoming a life changing amount but what if he does not like the job he is doing or he is underpaid, he may prefer self-employment.

But you said he continued to use the money to gamble until he lost everything. That means he thought gambling can be used to make money. That is not bravery at all.

It's brave to do something with $3,000 & it would be stupid to quit his job, then start a new gambling session with that $3000. I also have bros who goes crazy from the dopamine increase in his brain, he won $1,500 & promised his girlfriend some things to buy (jewelry & a new iPhone). Without realizing it, he continued gambling until the money was gone, he forgot that he had promised his girlfriend something & you know what happened next? they broke up. Cheesy

So here's the actual or most likely people do think off.

1. Win up an amount on which they do believe that it is enough
2. Mind said "F*ck job" and resigned immediately
3. Since he won then he thinks that he can make more
4. Play all of those winnings back again in the casino and lost it all
5. Finding a job again
6. Made out some realizations on how stupid he was

Once you do have that kind of impulsive emotion then your mainly be focusing on what your feelings on that time will be followed, which it would be including on resigning your job because you do already believe that you can hit up another $3k win again and make yourself rich. People are just that too dumb on this kind of thinking on which they do believe that it is possible or something sustainable. On this kind of action then its just basically you are plain stupid. Well, experience would be the best teacher and be thankful if ever you would be able to recover from that.

It is just like the dopamine effect that people feel when they won huge amount of money from gambling, thinking into a false sense of making more money from gambling. They have forgotten that they gamble and won just one time and it is luck while the chance to win like that again is very minimal. He will realize his mistake when he lost all the money. Having business in mind would have been better but thinking he can continue with gamble to make more money is completely a stupidity.

To choose gambling as your passion and main source of earning by quiting job is the dumbest thing a person can do in his life. If you wants to start a business you should atleast have 24 months of savings so you can use them in your daily necessary. This guy just quite his job for $3k lol it's just insane. Maybe this was his first big win .

Btw mistakes makes a man perfect. He learnt by doing this mistake ain't gonna do this next time. In gambling you can win $30k in 10mins and lose it in 5min. So yeah basically the way it comes same way it goes by.  Grin

Well it depends on the amount of his salary he receives per month. If his salary is poor, then he can decide to quite his Job and start a new business. But what he would have done is to start up a business with that amount and see how his business grows, then when it has stand properly, he can then decide to quite his Job and focus on his new established business. For the aspect of the $3k, I don't know about your country but mine that amount is enough to start a good business with. But where I don't support is leaving his job without observing how far he can extablish himself with that money. Although sometimes we get overly excited and feel that $3k is a big money that can do the kind of business in our brain without doing a market survey, and if you eventually start it without proper investigation, you might just miss the target and lose such amount. That's why sometimes we need guidance on what we want to do, if not lack of aweanes will make you lose the amount that could have been enough to start a meaningful business.

It's stupid. There is no need to quit the job. And the fact that money is slowly being exhausted is the reason why we are working. It could've been a better result if he had kept his job and then kept the money as his savings, and maybe he could have thought of something wise on what to do with it while he was still working.

This is what they call "jumping the gun". I don't blame the dude, and maybe it is his first time receiving such a huge amount. It should be a lesson for him and maybe next time he can keep himself composed if he hits another big win.

$3000 is not a life changing amount but it is possible to start a small business with it or invest it in an asset like Bitcoin which will be brave but quitting your job right after winning such an amount is stupid. Using the money to continue gambling after quitting his job is extreme foolishness, it is only when a business starts to give profit that can sustain him that it is wise to quit his job. Some people wants to win big in gambling but they don't have any investment plans and that is why they lose everything back to the casino. If a gambler has investment plans he will continue to gamble from his earnings and invest the big amount that he won.

He thought that what he won was probably life-changing. It was probably his first time to hold that much money in one go, so he thought it would take a while to run out. It could also be that he just wanted to leave and change jobs, and what he won was a good start while he was looking for a better fit for his job. I just hope it doesn't end up that he also spent all his winnings on gambling. It would be a waste if that's what happened. It seems like there's no good purpose for what he won if he did that .

$3000 where I live is enough to basically pay bills for a month and eat so I would never consider quitting a job for that small an amount. Even if $3000 was enough to live like a king for a year it would not be enough to tempt me to quit my job. At some point you gotta grow up and decide what's important to you in life. If you have a family you just guaranteed them poverty IMO, so don't make silly decisions.

I see it as stupidity because he gambled back all the money and lost it. Assuming, he didn't gamble the money and invested it into a business that he's running, I would have said it was a brave decision.

He can even invest the money and continue his job. My coworker won upto $6500, he didn't quit his job and continue with his low paying job. In fact, you wouldn't know that he won such amount of money if you see him because he acts as if he's still broke. Guess what, he invested part of the money and started his building.

This is an important lesson for all of us after winning money or any big prize, it is crucial to think calmly. If that money is used wisely and planned properly, it can grow and create a safer path for the future.

In short: making big decisions in the heat of excitement or joy is risky; careful planning and patience are the real keys to success.

It's obvious that it's a stupid decision for him to quit his daily job just because of winning that kind of money. It's not that of a big money anyways, but in a hindsight, if could be that he doesn't want his job to begin with, maybe there's too much stress or he doesn't like his boss, and so for sure he might just have made an excuse to quit his job

In any case, he should just look for another job and hopefully he still has the money to stay afloat and survived while looking for a job. The best time to quit a job is when you win the lottery because that is a life changer for anyone of us here.

$3,000 will have a different meaning for people in different countries. In my country, it's not much, but it's not little either, but I would never say I could live on that amount of money for very long without earning a living. Moreover, gambling for that amount would quickly turn a gambler into a broke person. So, of course, you can quit if your winnings have more than three zeros, but that $3,000 isn't worth planning your future on.

Even if he lives in a country where their currency has no value $3k can never be sufficient enough to spend for a lifetime...he made a very childish and stupid mistake...That's what money can do, when you touch an amount of money you haven't gotten before there's a high chance that it is going to control your actions..hopefully he would be able to get another job and perhaps won't repeat the same mistake

Well I think quitting his job is not the problem rather it is lack of planing that makes it look like that because we don't know how much they are paying him. But it would have establish a business rather than uselesing the money because obviously he didn't made a good plans with the money he was just over excited about the money forgetting that such amount can only see you through when you invest in a business. Sometimes we need to be extremely careful and have a good plans before thinking of quitting a job because is not about winning huge amount is about discipline and investment.

For someone that lives in a country with low living cost and probably living in rural area, that $3000 is a big money but I agree with you that it's not a life changing. If I'm going to win big money, I would rather start business and invest a little in other things and if the business works then that's the only time I would consider quitting my job, to focus on the business and let it grow. I think it's plain stupidity to quit job because you just won money, you should consider that it will soon be gone since you need to spend it for food and other necessity and if you can't find a way to make money out of it, invest it and continue working on your job.

Even I, if I win a million dollars wouldn't immediately quitting my job. I'll make sure first that I'll be generating income passively first before quitting and also, having a job is like having a safety net.

Very silly decision mate, $3k is enough to start up a good business that if managed properly could make one wealthy on the long run but it's not worth quiting a job, I really don't understand why that gambler made such terrible mistake and the fact that he's back to looking for a job means that he might have squandered or mismanaged the money or even lost a huge part of it to the house. There are some decisions that can be really crazy, this is one of them, I don't even think I'll quit a good paying job for $30k talk more of $3k.
