I don't know if this story is true, but if it is:
3k USD is a good amount for several countries, including mine  Tongue
I think that amount could be almost a year's salary in some countries

However, that person must have been very unhappy in their job to quit as soon as they earned the 3k USD, so it may not have been that bad
Sometimes it was the push he needed to change jobs

I've never won that much money betting, hehehe

Someone from my community said he quit his job after winning almost 3,000 USD from gambling. Now he is back to looking for a job after he lost all his money. Immediately, I thought that was a stupid decision. 3,000 USD is a huge money but not a life changing one. It is not even that big to start a big business. Most likely he quit his job out of adrenaline and happiness. Do not make big decisions like that after winning a big amount of money. Quit your job if you have successfully built that 3,000 to grow.
This is too funny to believe a person who only won 3k to have quitted his job for a small amount of money.
This is not even an $100k win or $500k win to have made him to quit his job. Maybe the person has a brain fatigue making him feel like he's on top of the world with a $3k win. This kind of person need a serious medical attention for his condition.

I've never won that much money betting, hehehe

Maybe it’s because you’re not betting an amount that could realistically turn into a $3k win. We don’t really know what kind of bet he hit, but my guess is it was a parlay. To win that kind of money, you usually need big odds and a decent multiplier.

But quitting his job after that? That honestly sounds stupid to me, especially since he ended up looking for a job again afterward.
I know a lot of people who are addicted to gambling, but even they didn’t quit their jobs. Instead, some of them started stealing money from the company to fund their gambling, and in the end, they got fired anyway.

This is the biggest mistake gamblers make. That gambler deserted a reliable source of income and focused on an unreliable source. The gambler you mentioned left his job after winning $3k in excitement. He probably thought he would win regularly. He wanted to choose an easy way to earn money like gambling.
You should always gamble for fun. If your attitude is to make money that is a wrong decision. Even if you win a lot in gambling it is not the right decision to desert the source of income.

Just stupid, nothin brave about it. 3000$ might be a lot of money in several countries, it is NOT enough to see youself as a professional gambler that can provide for himself (or others) from this "profession"  Roll Eyes . 1 bad streak and the money is gone, and then what. You always need a plan B or a BIG bankroll to have a safety net to fall back into. Thinking you can live from gamling really is the worst idea one could have, honestly. There is nothing brave about it.

You don't have to think of him as stupid but what the problem is, he didn't manage the money well. He might have quit his job because of how much he was paid and the degrading conditions he is working under. Some people who are prudent and better thinkers would have still left their job and manage that money well. . That is the difference but not that he quit his job. People are working under dehumanising conditions and when they get slight opportunity to liberate themselves, they won't think otherwise.

Win a certain amount of money, but not to build a business, the money will run out as they need. It was a foolish choice for a gambler who had a job, and quit his job after winning $3k. It wasn't a huge amount, but how winning with that amount made the gambler made a stupid decision to quit his job.

Depends if his salary is 50 dollars where he lives then it means that for 5 years he would be covered though I highly doubt that those type of salaries, that low still exist. Personally I think it was a stupid decision, the smart and brave one is the decision you take to build something while you continue working, something I am planning to do yet I am far from implementing it and a lot of difficulties arise, it looks like the universe is playing really bad tricks on me, at work a lot more stress has suddenly emerged, in life more unexpected expenses are coming up, bad things are happening every day but I don't surrender, I may make some small mistake like spending 10 dollars out of 200 in gambling, never again spending a lot and building little by little, hope to stay strong. This is the definition of brave and smart and very few people achieve it.

Let me try out some simple arithmetics here. Let's assume I am doing a cleaners job or a security guard, considering how risky and physically demanding a security guard job for instance can be, it is clearly not a job anyone would want to remain in long term if they should eventually see a better opportunity. In my country, a security officer job for a company is mostly within the range of 20,000 naira which is equivalent to 13.6 dollars, monthly. Now when you decide to compare this income with a lump sum of 3,000 dollars converted at the current P2P price of say 1,470 naira, it will be mind blowing to you and that 3,000 dollars will be equals to 4,410,000 naira. Now divide 4,410,000 by 20,000 naira or 3,000 dollars by 13.6 dollars you will have roughly 220 months of collecting salary.

In simple terms, 3k dollars is the equivalent of roughly 18 years of earning 13.6 dollars (20,000 naira) every single month of salary. Now let me leave us to our thoughts, assuming you are the one in the same position with this person who quit their job as they earned the 3k USD, won't you quickly quit such job so you can concentrate on a small business that can quietly grow your own wealth and financial freedom too.

Depends if his salary is 50 dollars....
$50 a month, is there really anyone who can survive on that and still live comfortably?

And how did he even earn that amount in the first place? We don’t really know the full story. We don’t know what country he’s living in, what kind of job he quit, or what his actual situation is. So it’s hard to assume anything from the outside.

I also think that since he’s a gambler, there’s a big chance he’ll eventually come back to gambling until that money is gone.
No one quits their job with just $3k and expects to survive for years without going back to gambling. That just doesn’t sound realistic.

Come on. In which country can you retire with ... Roll Eyes 3000 USD ?!?
What is the standard and quality of your life that you can get with this amount?
I would just say that sounds too strange such idea to retire with a tiny amount... if you think in some rich countries you can barely survive for one month.

In general... if you had a business or a good job and not enough to live by yourself, defintely it's better to stay where you are.
Anyway, this can't be possible mostly anywhere in the world. Imagine how powerful will be bitcoin in a place where you can retire with few dollars... Roll Eyes

That amount is more than enough for a whole year salary of minimum wage earner in my country.

There’s some people that usually turn to lazy mode once they acquire that huge money and enjoy the money until they spend it all which is the textbook typical fellow countryman.

I heard a lot of story like this that even gave the huge part on his neighbor that later he went broke again immediately.

Is this even a realy story? It is hard to believe someone quit a job just because he just won $3k in gambling while I believe $3k can cover our needs for several months only even in 3rd world countries like where I live.
Sorry to say but I think it is not really happening as I think you just created a story to ask other's opinion about the story.
I will believe if someone quit job after winning in gambling and the amount is like hundreds of thousands dollar to millions so this gambler decide to quit because he wants to start his own business with the winning money.

That's an amount that's not enough to set for life. But I get him that he's resign from his job after winning that money because he's probably wanting that to happen.

There's nothing wrong to quit even if he's not won that amount but when the environment is toxic. Can't blame him for doing that if there is a personal reason why he'd done.

And it's not just all about winning that $3k because it's normal to take some rest but yes, don't be so decisive when you've just won some money.

This is actually not good decision to be honest.
But who knows, probably he was already fed up with the job.

There are alot of workers tired of their job waiting for something to take them out, probably because of stress or low payment, so probably he might be one of them, and he saw that 3k as a way of escaping.
So that might be the reason why he left, and probably he didn't invest it well and now he is looking for another job.

It is just like the dopamine effect that people feel when they won huge amount of money from gambling, thinking into a false sense of making more money from gambling. They have forgotten that they gamble and won just one time and it is luck while the chance to win like that again is very minimal. He will realize his mistake when he lost all the money. Having business in mind would have been better but thinking he can continue with gamble to make more money is completely a stupidity.

I've won big & lost big, not once have I thought of doing stupid things after experiencing both. Gambling has cycles, win, lose, win again, lose again, lose again, win again, win again, losing streak, winning streak. Because of this unique cycle, we cannot make a decision that even sounds ridiculous. The man in the story could be said to be stupid, because after all, he should have needed the job, at least to be the main foundation in his household.

I agree if you say it's stupid, whatever amount you get from gambling still don't resign from your job, this is a principle that must be owned unless you dare to start a business it might have a different story, but if it's just a small amount and don't have any plans even with big wins it will only make you unemployed, especially if you continue to do gambling activities, the winnings will be bet again and can run out faster.

The amount of $3,000 is relatively not that life changing to the point that it compels you to quit your job. Even if that amount is huge to some countries, it is not something that can answer all of your financial problems that can make you live like a king or a queen.

What your friend did was irresponsible given that he thought the amount of $3,000 can change his life. What's even worse is that he began looking for a new job after he exhausted all of those winnings by gambling again. Again, this is not just irresponsible but complete financial incapacity that he must learn from such experience.

This is actually not good decision to be honest.
But who knows, probably he was already fed up with the job.

There are alot of workers tired of their job waiting for something to take them out, probably because of stress or low payment, so probably he might be one of them, and he saw that 3k as a way of escaping.

Well that's another angle that we could look upon.

Regardless, however, quitting your job just because you won that amount of money is still considered irresponsible. The funny and ironic thing is, he's currently looking for a new job after he exhausted his winnings quickly.

First I don't know the kind of job that your friend use to do and if it is the one that is so hectic and not really good for his or her health I will would not say is not a bad decision perhaps he should get a new one now before he died trying to earn a living but If the job is the one that is not hectic or stressful and is paying him well I would say that your friend is not civilized or someone that is learned because someone who is educated would never made such decision not even when he has not set up something that will give him money.

Of course, the gambler left his job because of greed. It is not wise to choose gambling as a profession for this small amount of money and abandon a stable source of income. He soon realized the consequences of his wrong decision and is looking for a job. This is a lesson for gamblers. You have to stop gambling to make money. The gambler chose gambling as a way to make easy money. Basically, there is no easy way to make money. You have to have the attitude of earning money through hard work. Easy ways make you lazy and addicted.
