Yeah, I'm confused too. I checked the price of Bitcoin around 2012, and the price all year round ranged from around $4 at its lowest to $13 at its peak. So, I am a bit confused where they got the $332 bitcoin each.

Kudos to the guy for holding his bitcoin for more than a decade. If it were me, I would probably have sold them a long time ago.

Aparently he isn't the only one from that era who has been selling lately. Last year there were also a few high-profile sales by long-term holders.

In this case, it seems that it doesn't really matter whether he bought at $10 or $300, selling at around $100K is a huge profit, and in this guy's case, he still has 2,500 bitcoins left, having pocketed more than $200 million.

When writing these articles, the publisher should always endeavor to use the right information and share the correct stats to avoid misunderstanding from the readers. I wouldn't believe this article, personally but in the meantime, I know there were many investors who bought Bitcoin then at cheap prices. Those investors are gradually selling off their holding, bit by bit. It will take a long time before they will sell everything off, and be in huge profit. If I were this investor, I will leave the remaining Bitcoin for the next 1 decade or 2. Bitcoin should be almost 300k to 500k in price for one.

This article is not the only one which recorded the purchase price to be around $300+. I don't know where they got their information from, as the price history doesn't have anything closer to that amount unless from the year 2013.

Anyways, the OG has waited for long to enjoy his investment, starting to sell little by little since the ending of 2024, and this might just be one of his many wallets which he is just trying to empty.

Clearly the author of the article didn't do enough research, if it wasn't $332, it should have been a typo for $3,32. But that's not a typo either, as BTC never hit that low in 2012. It's a shame for a big media like Benzinga to have lazy article writers like him, I can do better than him.



For that BTC OG, he is a lucky man because he had the opportunity & belief at the same time, now he is taking the results of his past efforts, of course he has gone through many good & bad events related to BTC.

Because our focus is on how lucky the people who bought bitcoin in 2012 are and were able to hold on to it until today or even a few years ago. And it seems that the owner of the wallet also intends to hold on to half of it for much longer.

I think if I had bought in 2012, I probably wouldn't have been able to hold onto it until today. I might have sold it under certain conditions, like when Bitcoin reached $1,000 or even lower than that. This investor is already in what is called a massive amount of profit, whatever be his reason for selling his Bitcoin portfolio then he has made quite a good amount of profit and his capital back, and even if Bitcoin is to go back to $1000 which has only 1% chance to happen he will still be at profit.
