It depends how you define freedom really, because I see plenty of happily retired people these days who just worked 9-5 jobs for many years but still did plenty of stuff in those decades they were working. Many of them paid off houses in that time and now just live off pensions that they accumulated. Employment is merely sufficient to cover the bills, it is quite challenging to establish a financial freedom in the long-term, particularly in the face of increasing living standards and inflation. Yes, there's no universal definition of financial freedom for everyone. And if starting a business were the only rational way to achieve it, everyone would already have their own business.
