The man found himself in a desperate situation, apparently owing a large sum of money. It looks like he stole some of the rent money in order to place bets. This explains his desperation to some extent. This is how some people use their greedy fast way of making money without thinking of the bad consequences to affected themselves. Honestly, the idea of using your house rent, school fees or medical or utility bill payments to gambling have never been an option I will ever encourage anyone to try. I read the article, and it seemed like he was really desperate for money in order to pay his outstanding debts. That's why he tried to push his luck with gambling, using the money he collected from other students' rent, but ended up losing it all and being in deeper trouble. He probably couldn't handle the pressure of his obligations (apart from his gambling losses), and just wanted to end it all. This was pretty sad, but it could've been avoided if only he had been responsible with the money entrusted to him.

I'm sure there's more to this one. Maybe he received some death threats from the landlord? Maybe he lost too much that he don't know how to pay it especially if his salary is that low. Whatever the case is, it's just unfortunate to see people who are taking their lives just because of gambling. I'm not against gambling, and anybody can gamble, but we should know the limitations, and the possible consequences of any decisions that we are making.

Gambling can change your life whether in a positive or in a negative way. It can solve financial problems, but what are the chances that you're one of them? Sometimes he may not be extremely addicted to gambling. I know a friend of mine that was not addicted to gambling, he used his school fee to gamble and lost it. He may just want to try his luck but if he wins, he will want to continue is the problem as he is using public money for it. That was the last time my friend gambled as he regretted it. But you can also be very right, he may be addicted to gambling but we do not know.

I understand the boy's state of mind very well, you feel helpless, depressed, and have missed the opportunity to redeem a better life with a lost dream.
He didn't tolerate taking his own life is never a solution, maybe for him and his way of thinking was the right solution.

Regardless anything that happened life is very sacred and precious  to God, he wouldn't have ended up his own life just like that perhaps their is more to come than what just happened.

Gambling can actually solve problems but not in the same way that gamblers expect, you can't have a problem and decide that gambling will be the solution, everyone has a problem or two and when it comes to gambling it should always be after you won some money that you should start thinking about what you want to use the money for, pay some debt, or pay some bills.

If I read article correct, then he has ended life because of 600k Naira loss? What is around 500 bucks only... I have found that their average salaries are from 50 to 200k Naira. So it will take several years of work to repay debt (if nobody sponsors you). He was a student, so whole life ahead. I dont understand why he has made such decision to end life.

The problem most people have is that they hide their problems from people. Instead of sharing their gambling addiction struggles with trusted people or professionals. Some of them might share their struggles with inexperienced friends who might give them bad advice.

I have seen situations where colleagues or even family members contribute money to pay off the debt of relation who had gambling addiction problems. I am sure many people would have been willing to help this young man if he had opened up and told them his predicament.

Living in poverty gives a lot of stress that makes a simple financial problem for us is unbearable for them considering that it’s hard to find job in there while he is still a student with debt.

I think their government should start regulating gambling strongly to avoid minor gambling since a student shouldn’t be allowed to gamble.

This is terrible, I can’t even imagine what could have happened for him to decide to take his own life because of a lottery loss. Even if he had used some shared funds, I don’t think that a dormitory manager would have access to such large amounts of money that he wouldn’t be able to repay those debts later. Gambling should always be done wisely and only with money we can afford to lose. Only a small portion of our income should be spent on gambling in order to keep every loss under control.

The topic of suicide is tragic in itself, regardless of the reasons why it happens, especially when it involves such young people. I once took part in a psychological training session where there was group work with a participant who had suicidal thoughts for reasons that seemed completely unjustified. What immediately came to my mind was how one adult woman, speaking from a mother’s perspective, commented on such thoughts, that it is irresponsible toward one’s loved ones, because when a person leaves, their close family and friends are left to live with it, blaming themselves for the rest of their lives. Any problem can be resolved, even those that seem terrifying and unsolvable. If someone has thoughts of suicide, at that moment they should think not of it as a way out, but of the loved ones who would spend their entire lives feeling guilty for not noticing the signs and not being able to prevent the tragedy.

That was what is reported according to tbe media, I saw this too in some media channel but I think the story isn't completed. Where does he got the money be used in the first place to make that bold decisions. If a person can be so bold to make decisions to bet that kind of money, then he is expecting more from where this one come. If he doesn't have a back up plan for the money then I don't think he is a 400l student, he doesn't look like an intelligent person.

There is nothing in gambling that should ever make you gamble with money that is so important to you. If you need the money, don't use it.
