Bitcointalk can be a scary place, but it can also be a dangerous place.   The things that happen on this forum can affect your financial future, or even your life if you talk (brag) too much.  That being said, there is a community run "police force" that can sometimes stop scams from happening, but only if they know about it.

If you get scammed a tiny/test amount, your first instinct might be to keep quiet so as to not appear gullible.   This is a mistake, as it allows them to continue to degrade the community.   But don't be dissuaded by the reaction to some of these accusations - you can send a private message to a trusted member you see calling out scams.  If you read something, say something.

Wow that's good, didn't know we had forum police force? If you don't mind can you list a few of these trusted members we can report issues like this to?

I've read how many newbies get scammed here on the forum and somehow, not all scammers can be caught or found on time. Some might have already fallen victims.

There's nothing to be ashamed of when we speak out. Some people feel like the money lost or stolen doesn't mean much, that's why they keep getting scammed. It's really nice knowing such people dedicate their time to help out.

There are lots of them..people like nutildah, lovesmayfamilis, AakZaki, hosemary and lot more of them but this people I mentioned are active scam busters and free volunteers that help keep this space save and free from scams. You can see that from their past works.

It do happens but I’ve never seen anything like that come my way since when I start posting on this forum last year, actually if you don’t report scams to the general public and choose to keep quiet, more people can also fall for it but if they know it exist then they can prevent themselves from those kinda scams.

Okay, I think I've come across these users. They do really great job on the reputation boards and some other technical boards. I appreciate their efforts..

Lol, I didn't imagine you to be old. But looking at how long you've been on the forum it says a lot. It's cool by the way.

The truth is some users prefer to keep mute because of the back-clash and critism they might receive from other experienced member who are aware of those kind of scam they fell for, in such case private message is a better solution if you can't stand criticism.

However, you could also agree with me that most users who fall for this scams are usually newbies and they are restricted from sending private messages except for copper members right? Since they are scared of critism and they can't send PMs, IMO that is why they sometimes keep mute even when scammed.

But the only solution will be to face your fear, critism is part of our daily experience, so don't keep quiet and die silently, by opening up, you stand a chance to save other users who could have fallen for such scams.

Thank you Vod for your words of encouragement and enlightenment.

You are also right, and I believe the majority of people that has fallen victim of such scam are newbies, because the zeal to learn and experiment everything at once is so high, and this results to accepting to do anything they are told disregarding the consequences of their actions.
And if there is a negative feedback from their experiment some will not be bold enough to come out and talk about that experience because of the fear of criticism, so we can not really blame them it just unfortunate. We learn everyday especially from our mistakes.]

Thank you sir for this advice, a lot of people are sometimes even scared to call out scammers because they feel no one will believe them but your advice to reach out to trusted members when we get scammed is a very good one that will help those who are scared to call out scammers.
I never knew we had forum police that’s a good one, I want to ask are the forum police different from those members that usually call out scammers or they are still same persons, won’t it be better if they are listed so people will just reach out to them when they have issues of scam.

For the sake of the newbies, they can take advantage of being on this forum and board like scam accusation could be used to further help out in some related cases, am surprised that its only about gambling scam accusation most people are doing there, whereas, lot are losing there money everyday without anyone helping out, at least, to an extent, we have some reputed members on this forum also being committed to cases like this, which when reported to, they can help out in their capacity, if not to recover, but also to track it, so lets be more active and also attentive to security measures, so there wont be needs for being scammed and who look for who to report to, prevention is better than cure.

I may be wrong, but in this forum, I have not seen a member get backlash for being a victim of a scam. Some users may point out how he could have done better, and one or two may be rude about it, but the community as a whole doesn't pile on the victim.
The people who get backlash are the once that are reporting false scam accusations or accusations with no proof whatsoever of the transaction or scam.
When you look at the scam accusations on casinos, a lot of them have been resolved, and it took effort from forum members who stand to gain nothing from it. Except in extreme situations where the victim also tried to scam or something like that, victims of scams never get backlash on this forum, none that I know of.
People pointing out mistakes that you made is not backlash; that is what helps you avoid them.

obviously reporting scam cases without doing it directly for whatever personal reason you hold is actually a good thing and if you've stayed long enough on the forum, you can tell that the likes of lovesmayfamilis and other top forum users tend to be more concerned about scam cases and if you give them the slightest benefit of doubt of a scam case, i believe they will happily follow up the matter to the latter and ensure that such individuals are fished out.

Expecially when the person you feel a suspicious thing about seems to be of a high and reputable rank on the forum and you're afraid of voicing out things you're displeased with, shifting the responsibility to other reputable member will save you the stress and lead to faster check of such matter.

Absolutely right. Especially for innocent but greedy newbies, the forum would be scary and dangerous unless they know about every new scam method. DT members, as you called the police force here, would detect or prevent when they notice or are reported by someone else. Those joining the forum for learning purposes should also learn how to prevent and avoid scams. We have to learn from others' mistakes and incidents.

We saw even sometimes people fall into double scams. The idea sending PM to trusted members is quite good, so trusted members would take a deep look on the matter either it's possible scam or not. That's also should learn by newbies.

I am new to this forum and I must say that if there is such body of members who acts as police force checkmating scam activities, then I think the best thing for other good user to do is to support the police and be vigilant and speak out if they notice a fraudulent act. I think we should do so because the Police force are not always all seeing as they are humans like us, so we the general members should also make the job easier and even fun for us too by supporting them by being vigilant, wise and speak out when we notice anything.

I'm sure every experienced users be it newbie to legendary has the right to speak out when you find anomaly activity in the forum. Sure we've the reputation board.
DT's too could tag violated users. Or I should assumed all that mentioned are officiating police station.

That's true. That's why you'll even hear about someone just got scammed and others could still regard the scammed strategy as an old system but yet others are still falling victim because they weren't aware of the scam when it trended.
Infact you can also do your research and after experiments you could identify some potential threats that could be attacking our wallets and give guidelines of how to avoid them.
It's very important to air out once an insecurity threat is sighted either by news.

This is a perfect reply for your questions..

Wow! This is beautiful piece of writing. This reminded me of a saying in my country security slogan. If you see something, say something. Op buy people are still afraid to say something because they are afraid that they will be hunted by the some people who asked them to say something. So that makes many mute to avoid hunting by those who are affected with saying.

Even as a newbie, it’s always better to come forward and share your experience. Everyone makes mistakes, especially when starting out, and keeping quiet won’t solve the problem. By speaking up, you give yourself the chance to learn from the experience, face criticism constructively, and grow stronger. More importantly, your openness can help others avoid falling into the same trap. Criticism might sting at first, but it’s part of learning and becoming better. Staying silent only allows the cycle to continue, while sharing your story can protect others and even earn you respect for your honesty and courage.

This is true, as is the fact that everyone should play a role in catching scammers. I don't think PM are the best defense, as only together as a community can we always bring scammers to justice faster and more comprehensively. So if you have any questions, there's also the reputation board or the Scam Accusations thread, where you can create a thread and share what happened to you.
