You answered your own question... what else can we tell you? It's a bit foolish to even think about it... If you are sure that your favorite team will lose, but you bet on them to win just because you are a fan? This sounds ridiculous, and I am not sure if it is funny or simply sad.

When you know the club you’re supporting is definitely going to flop and lose the match, I see no reason not to bet on the opponent to win, to me it would be unwise to still bet on a team you know that it’s going to lose.

I don't use my money to bet on my team in all games, there is fan love and there is money on the risk. I find my self doing funny things, in the previous AFCON, we played a semi final, I saw how tough the game is, the odds at that point was slightly on our side, I remembered double authenticating my feelings by giving the away side my stake, it was more like, supporting my country to win, but at worse, I will make profits if it goes the other way.

Same applies to me here. I always like betting on teams. Sometimes I will bet on them to lose and sometimes I will bet on them to win. It depends on the form in which I view my team. I don’t see anything wrong with someone betting against their team when they know their team is not as great as the opponent. Well for starters, I have a soft spot for Manchester United and I have seen them lose on consecutive occasions where they should have won and I avoid to bet on them so I don't bet with sentiments. But on this good day, Manchester United vs Manchester City, as we all know it's likely for City to win United given the recent performance so I decided to bet on City to win without any sentiments. This is how it’s supposed to be. Bet as you want to bet, don’t let any form of emotional attachment make you do something that doesn’t even make sense to others, take for example betting on your favorite time when you know fully well that they are going to lose the game.

I don’t condemn those who have made it a habit to never go against their team, it’s their choice, if they see it as betrayal then let them do what pleases their heart. The best I can do for my team as a sign of respect is to not just bet on that game, let’s say they are going against a very strong opponent instead of betting on my team to win despite knowing the odds are stacked against them, I’ll rather just let the game go without betting anything.

The situation is difficult and sometimes I avoid betting 1x2 when my favorite club does not perform well but replaced with BTTS or Over/Under (I also avoid Handicap) because I am a little difficult to bet on the opposing club when facing my favorite club and I am difficult to bet on the favorite club because the conditions are less convincing.

hmm, yes kind of ironic, fans usually looked so high on their teams's chances and ignored data, that result to wrong bet.   There is a certain calling in betting your own team in order to avoid emotional risk, this is emotional hedging. But many avoid this because they felt that this is a kind of betrayal or it damage their experience as a fan.  For me betting against your team can be a wise scheme if it is supported with analysis, like what professional bettors are doing, because emotion confuses in deciding while odds are set base on logic and not of being a fan

I would not go as far as saying there is a conflict on interest in the most cases in which gamblers consider the idea of betting against their favorite team in order to get some money, though.
A real conflict of interest would be having a manager of a team to bet against the very same team he owns or trains, in order to get money (because he knows the incoming match would be very difficult for the team to win).

In the end, when a team we like ends up winning a match, we get absolutely nothing from it, nothing material or nothing of monetary value. It is purely psychological.
