I believe so. Gambling addiction, if not controlled, could lead to financial problems. From financial problems, it can create a chain reaction that affects almost everything connected to you, your family, the way you live, your health, etc. And that will lead to stress. If you are not a strong willed person, stress will silently wear you out. Chasing bills alone can already be stressful, what more if you have your own family. Even worse, you may slowly stop paying attention to your health, or it may no longer be one of your priorities because your bills are piling up.

It would be like a domino effect so to speak. Because not only the gambler himself will be affected but the immediate family. So before you buried yourself in gambling, think of the people who will suffer the consequences. Do remember, if someone is relying on you, it means, they will also suffer whatever your decision will be. So better decide whether you want to secure your family's future or not.
And yes, I do believe that gambling addiction is a silent killer. Not only for the gambler but the immediate people around him will suffer the consequences of his actions. And we all know what can happen next. It is no surprise about the aftermath of gambling addiction as you can already see and read it anywhere.

I believe gambling addiction is a silent killer. There are no symptoms; you may see a healthy person, but deep within, they are suffering from depression and physical disabilities. They may look happy outside, but deep inside, they are lonely and helpless.

It isn't everyone that can control himself after being an addict. And self control over gambling is highly important as it help to stop making a stupid decision that may cause ones life.

What makes it a silent killer they starts unnoticed until it's accumulated over the years, and all the symptoms appear after so many years of concealing it.

This is why it's so difficult for an addict to admit they had become an addict. It's a symptom free problem. Most times they feel what they are doing is still normal. Most times things might has gotten worst before they could notice there is a problem with them.

I have read reports of physically healthy people, but once they start gambling, no one notices the changes in their appearance until they suffer from a heart attack and manic depression.

It isn't stop in suffering from a silent killer disease but also making a life threaten decision during their gambling history can be a more worsen situations. Most gambling addict can gamble with anything to win or recover loses when they are depressed.

What are the other symptoms that you can think of that will make gambling addiction a silent killer? Let's explore this so we can inform. This is why it's better to make a good step on someone close when you observe he/she is going extra- ordinary with gambling.

I think its depend a lot of person... those who are more intrusive will shut down, spend even more time alone and deny until the last minute that they are addicted into gambling.
But, someone who are very sociable will not be able to hide it... friends and relatives will notice that they are addicted, because the addicted person themselves will start talking a lot about gambling to others people close to them, so in that case I think it would not be a silent problem.

But, going back to the first case, the intrusive person... there will be patterns that family and close friends will be able to notice.
The first is the problem with money... gambling is cruel and consumes a lot of money, so it affects the people around them, I think that's a problem impossible to hide.

The second is the change in behavior... I think that even a very intrusive person will have their behavior altered by the gambling addiction and a family member or close friend will certainly notice the change in behavior.

The problem of gambling addiction is unsafe since its harm will accumulate silently as time passes. Money makes one stressed out, stress leads to poor health, and bad health makes judgment poorer entangling individuals in an addiction. The effects hardly end with the gambler and family members suffer both emotionally and financially. Beyond control and discipline, gambling becomes a mute killer of life and future of all those people involved in it directly.

What I see a lot of times is that people slowly start convincing themselves that everything is under their control, After winning a few times in the beginning, they seem to understand that they will not make the same mistakes as before, then the caution automatically decreases. Small risks no longer seem like risks. In fact people then get involved in a game with themselves. You can see it from the outside but you don't realize it from the inside. I think this false confidence is what drives addiction the deepest because then the thought of stopping never comes to mind.
That's right, many boundaries are ignored, slowly destroying themselves, and of course, from the outside, they still appear confident. I think people in that phase are simply too embarrassed to admit defeat, making it difficult for them to stop, ultimately leading to their ultimate downfall. Perhaps they still think they can turn things around, but that's just an illusion.

gambling addiction is a disease that does not make noise since it develops gradually and unobstrusively. Wins at the start create a misleading perception of control, and risks become smaller and forgotten. The citizens go on blindly without considering the risk and do not pay attention to limits, believing that they can always get back on their feet. They can appear to be confident on the outside but are caught in the trap. Having pride and embarrassment and the illusion of reversing the situation, they tend to sink further into addiction which is extremely difficult to overcome.

Well, when a person/gambler is stressed and depressed, there are many illnesses that he/she might develop. Diabetes is caused by eating too much sugar because he wants to keep himself awake while he is chasing the losses. High acidity, uric acid, or gout because he keeps rushing his food, not eating normally, or not eating at the right time anymore. It's suicide that is not seen because they don't really care about their health anymore.

Stress alone can make a person do crazy things, and when you are thinking too deeply about the losses, you could also be in an accident, either while walking or driving your car. I keep repeating this here in the gambling section: "We must move on quickly after every loss."

I believe gambling addiction is a silent killer. There are no symptoms; you may see a healthy person, but deep within, they are suffering from depression and physical disabilities. They may look happy outside, but deep inside, they are lonely and helpless.

Addiction to anything is bad. Gambling addiction is often not understood by the people around. And for this reason it can be  called a silent killer . If someone is addicted to gambling, there is no way to understand it by looking  at their physical health. Because it destroys our mental health. So if a person is addicted to gambling , it will not be possible for a  stranger to know. And there are many gamblers who have reached the highest level of addiction, but even then people around them are not aware of this. So those of us who  participate in gambling regularly must be aware of  the money we spend. If we  start spending unlimited money on gambling, then it will be understood  that we are not in control of ourselves.

Exactly gambling is silent killer since it does not show any clear signs of body mistreatment of drug or alcohol abuse but inside destroyer. Physically one might appear to be in great health yet inside they feel long term stress due to steady rush of excitement and worry about money which could lead to problems of the body like high blood pressure and heart failure and stomach ulcers and complete body tiredness as result of lack of sleep.

Mentally addiction leaves brain in clouded mind since it is so much focused towards next bet to point that it forgets as it enters dream like state during conversation and loses interest to things which it liked before. There are also slight personality changes through sudden anger with simple questions asked or very kind person to hide their secret fight. These signs build up over decades behind face of happy man damage is so mostly deep that no one can listen to them and therefore take needed action before it is too late and this is where it is vital to pay attention to these silent signs of behavior that may in end result in total body or mental breakdown.

I completely agree that uncontrollable gambling addiction is truly a silent killer, because no one will be able to recognize the signs of this problem in their loved one until they reach the brink.
After all, if you compare it to smoking tobacco, a heavy smoker starts coughing, an alcoholic starts rioting and throwing tantrums. But a problem gambler, even when approaching the very brink of addiction, will remain silent, and the only way they can involuntarily reveal themselves is by borrowing money from everyone.
At first, everyone will think everything is fine and normal, but then they will realize that their loved one has long been severely addicted and needs urgent help.

An addicted gambler will not even have a large win in his hands for long - he will inevitably lose it. That's the insidiousness of gambling addiction. Gambling itself becomes the goal, not winning, and certainly not entertainment. It's like a drug addict - you don't get high, but you need to use it. Whether the gambler develops the disease unnoticeably or clearly for others depends on the sufficiency of money he has.

It's a silent killer with your finances and health; you are not aware of the symptoms until they come out, and it's incurable. We have seen gamblers lose everything they have and still hope to regain what they've lost.

And we have seen people developing heart problems because their hearts cannot keep up with the pressure imposed on their bodies. It will not show up immediately, and you will be caught by surprise when you hit a stroke.

People who indulge too much in gambling should monitor their blood pressure and their finances. It's better to have someone watch over you, since you may not be aware of the symptoms, while those around you can.

Very true, and they keep gambling and gambling over again, funny enough after every losses they promised themselves to never gamble again, that this last time is the final last time but it's a lie, when they find another amount of money they will go back to gambling again.

It's wise to let go of things that can bring health complications to your life than holding on to them, sicknesses don't start instantly put of nowhere, they slowly gather up with no symptoms in sight until it's too late. People should try to avoid anything that will affect their health even if it's money related, gambling is not for everyone for real.

And it gets  bad to the point that they can do anything to get money just to gamble, not for the reward or fun of it like you said, but just to satisfy that urge of gambling, some even go to the point of taking loans from the bank or borrowing when they've exhausted what they have in their wallet, gambling addiction is indeed a silent killer cause the victims fail to pay attention to important things or invest their capital on things that would bring good ROI but use it for gambling then get depressed when they can't generate capital for it.

Gambling addiction is a slow and quiet killer in our society. The most dangerous part is the fact that most people cannot recognize it. Most times it doesn't start with anything dramatic, For example, it will start with restlessness, thinking a lot about something and big mood swings.  People surrounding you might just think that you're stressed, you might not even realize that you are losing control to gambling, and it is changing your mood and attitudes in a negative way.

I can also say that there are a lot of signs that show how gambling is ruining a person’s daily function. Losing sleep becomes normal,  concentration is a huge issue and you start to neglect your responsibilities. Financial pressure also plays a huge role. When a person is gambling, they stress themselves out, hiding their losses, borrowing money or even chasing wins puts even more stress on themselves.

Isolation is another "silent" symptoms, The person starts to pull away, avoid conversation and start lying, not because they are bad though, but because they are ashamed. Once they are in isolation, the depression and anxiety start to take control and it is dangerous.  They will not notice any signs so it's very easy to ignore. No sudden crash. Everything looks fine. Then BOOM! So that is why Awareness matters and so do these conversations.

What are the other symptoms that you can think of that will make gambling addiction a silent killer? Let's explore this so we can inform.

If someone is getting addicted in gambling, they should be able to observe it on their own because someone that is not very close to them might not notice it until they have become uncontrollably worse, but for the victim to notice the symptoms is very simple, they will observe a change in behavior, they will become more obsessed with gambling, they will become more obsessed with winning and they will start chasing losses, all these symptoms are silent killers because the person can be draining emotionally.

Change of character, it’s hard to take notice this for yourself because you are changing what is normal to you based on your own new perspective when gambling.

Your mind is too focused on gambling that’s why your life goal only rotated on how you can gamble and other gambling shenanigans like it’s your only world.

It’s a silent killer because you can harm other or do illegal without realizing that it’s already out of your character just because you needed it to fund your gambling.

I would use pubmed to go further on these argument, bitcointalk could seems another place where everyone has "opinions " but there are real medical research (even epidiomelogical) on these arguments.
Probably it is true that for some people and certain culture gambling addiction can be seen as a serious threath... but we should think about the real nunmbers of a certain phenomen. There is no silent killer and people that have addictions (I talk in general, there is not only gambling addiction) knows very well that this is NOT SILENT Roll Eyes
Maybe you can deny initially but there is no silent in addiction, people struggling on these issues are not only lonely or depressed.

The depletion of sanity in acting implies that the impulsive yearnings of a person have assumed control of the whole of his or her life and we feel baffled whenever we attempt to provide even the most sensible guidance. You correctly describe how this addiction causes people to push aside the lines of right and wrong just to get immediate satisfaction. Financial ruin is not always a pleasant wake-up call and could set us off on the fatal errors of history.

I agree with you that gambling could be very bad for some kind of people mentally and physically. Those who do gambling they may look fine outside but inside they are full of stress and mentally unstable. Stress release cortisol taht is helpful for helth but for long term stress it become opposite, it become harmful for body. But those who Gamble for entertainment they don't care about money because they don't have money problem. That kind of people don't gets stressed or mentally unstable.
