I don't wish to find myself in such a situation, but am sure the person who committed suicide was already having the thought and losing his keys was just reason enough to fulfill his suicidal thoughts.
It might have been hard to recover the funds though, but he would have lived to do better and learn from the experience.

It is a lesson to us all, to do proper research and have people on deck to ask questions to that can come up with smart answers, because ignorance as it concerns Bitcoin is a consequence on its own mostly when it comes to anything crypto currency or Bitcoin holdings in particular.

We don't like to see more of these taking of their own lives for that misfortune. If someone has been consistently doing DCA for a very long time, it's understandable why they can't move on easily.

We cannot invalidate someone's frustration if they've been doing that and yet, a misfortune happens.

I mean if you lose your seed phrase then it is surely a huge lose for sure and it is your fault since you are the one that lose it anyway, I don't see why people are commiting suicide just because they lose something, because for me life is just way valuable than everything or than any amount of money whatsoever, but it is probably going to upset a lot of people especially if you are the one that actually build that investment then it is going to be really difficult to move on since it is your actual hard work, but still it still doesn't make sense to me, I remeber watching a guy on social media saying that if someone is going to pay you like one hundred million dollars but then you are not going to wake up tomorrow are you going to take it? and the one guy said obviously no, then the guy said, that it means that waking up is worth more than one hundred million dollars something like that.

Also, you are right, if you have a life there is always a chance for you to start over again, losing a huge amount of money doesn't mean that you lose. Giving up is what makes you lose.

That's not the actual story. The real story is Bitcoin was working as a private investigator for the guy's wife, because she thought he was cheating on him (he was). But then see she welched on the payment before Bitcoin had the chance to tell her the results of his investigation, and so he decided to blackmail the guy by threatening to show his wife the pictures of him with another woman. The guy had recently lost his seed phrase and didn't have the money to pay the blackmail. He couldn't live with the idea that his wife knew he was cheating on her, so unable to pay the blackmail, he just killed himself. And that is the story of how a guy committed suicide because of Bitcoin.

Well, I don't think it would be a good idea to just die because you lose the keys. In my case since I get them free from faucets before and held some BTC, I lost those keys, but I didn't think to commit suicide, but there's a regret. If I didn't forgot my password and 2fa or at least saved the seed phrase before, I might have been able to recover those wallet that contains almost all earnings from my faucet before including the referrals, because I made some site to auto-next and got many referrals, and also earnings from my blogs before from A-ads.
It didn't reach 1 BTC, but it is nearly 1 BTC, even though it is still a high amount if you are going to exchange it today.
Well, only regrets are what I feel, but I don't have a plan to commit suicide. Maybe that guy invested a lot of his savings; that is why that guy ended his life.

Man who dies because he lost his Bitcoin key is sad reminder that although Bitcoin provides complete feeling of control sometimes its power can be very hard. In same case, I would use your sleep way since having break helps brain to avoid quick and panic changing errors that might go on to mess up situation.

When still calm I would move to reason stage where I would follow my steps back to look for any hidden backups or even use expert fixing services in case I still kept part of words. Thinking it were really gone, then I would have to see it as natural disaster kind of loss of common tool of money, but same way that does not mean that builder is dead and so he cannot begin again. After all, you are right in your point money should be used to better life and not to make it, and there is no amount of digital money that would be better than human life.

I will spend endless night scouring for my seed phrase hoping it got saved somewhere else. It's gonna be a long search but I won't give up that easily.
If after awhile the seed phrase is never found then I move on. If you can collect that much bitcoin in the first place, what's stopping you from collecting again.

Then again, if he got that much bitcoin, you should spend some dollar buying multiple seed phrase storage. I know this thing won't happen to me because I take precaution. Just buy multiple of these and be safe.

That is actually sad. When using self custody bitcoin wallet, people seem to treat it like bank account where you can make recovery by contacting the bank.

The truth is different, using self custody wallet is like having a real wallet instead of bank. You take care all of your asset by yourself and nobody got control of it nor access to it except you.

Maybe he lost his hard earned life saving and sees no hope anymore. If anyone out there aren't willing to spend time learning self custody and its discipline to keep themselves from making this big mistake of losing access to their wallet. Just buy the ETF.

But I feel sorry for that person. However, let's be clear here, his death wasn't caused by Bitcoin, but by his negligence, those are two different things. If someone loses the private key to their wallet, it's their failure to safeguard their private key, and Bitcoin can't be blamed for that. Keeping your private key safe is your own responsibility as the wallet owner. That's why it's important to properly secure your private key to prevent something like that from happening.

For him it may not just be his Bitcoin, maybe a brother or sister also owns part of the Bitcoins he has in that wallet and he can't bear it losing.  He probably being blamed for being broke by his brother. If its me, I never kill myself. I have a kid.

Lesson is just save your key somewhere you only know. maybe redundant save a .txt file and a piece of paper somewhere no one could find.

You are not been realistic, people just give advice without feeling the impact of the damages done, you clearly said it yourself that this person had a lot of Bitcoin in the wallet, that could be everything he ever worked for, he shouldn't have taken his life but man it's not going to be easy.

Ask how many have lost their Bitcoin in the past and are able to get it back today? I have lost 1 BTC in 2018 and till today I have never made it back, not even close and yet I made more money than I used to at the time, when there is life there is hope? It's not as easy as that, many people won't make what they have lost back.

There are hard experiences in one's life; if this is it, they can be life-changing, positive, or negative. It's going to be a life lesson, and there are definitely ways to avoid this with modern wallets

One should note that it's the person's responsibility to store it properly, as there are warnings and prompts to remind you to keep your seed phrase safe, or else you will lose it all. Suicide shouldn't be the answer. Is there a reference to this on where this happened? @OP

I spent a lot of times regretting what could have been, i have probably lost at least 10 BTC playing around with paper wallets and giving them away to people who ended up losing them, probably thrown in the bin.
I used to spend 0.3 BTC weekly buying a roast beef roll or a pizza to eat, just to spend bitcoin.

Now i have realized that those days are gone and there is no use regretting anything or wondering what could have been.
I prefer to look at the bright side. I got to spend a lot of time with some of the biggest names in bitcoin, got to attend crypto conferences all around the world and made some great life long friends.

I may not be rich at all these days, in fact i would say i am poor, but i still have those great memories and nothing can take that away

Well, given the emotional nature of many people, the possibility of suicide due to a lost seed phrase shouldn't be ruled out (people have committed suicide for less significant reasons).

If I lose my seed phrase, the first thing I'll do is try to find a backup seed phrase. I'd also divide my cryptocurrency assets into several wallets (2-3 different seed phrases) for diversification.

Losing your savings is certainly upsetting, but it doesn't mean the end, making it impossible to live. Money can always be earned and saved, given the time and effort, but life can't be bought for any amount of money or bitcoin (even for all the bitcoins in this world - even the most insignificant life, like the one they are ready to lose because of the lost seed phrase ).

For disorders such as losing your assets, the best solution is not sleep, but occupational therapy - i.e., occupy your hands and thoughts with any activity that will distract you from bad thoughts (and will also allow to return to the path of accumulation).

Life is most precious gift of life and can't be sacrificed for Bitcoin or any other monetary thing. If I lost my seed phrase due to any reason then I have to agree that I will be in stress but I won't do anything that do harm to my health or life. In such situations, we must do things to ease out stress like talking to the family or go to actions with our family or friends. We have many things in life for which we can live and we can do recovery only if we continue to live. Seems funny to you? I wouldn't wish this to happen to anyone. A human gave up on his life because he couldn’t undo what had happened. This is how life works, and he must be treated with care after that loss. If people like you make comments like the one you just made, through your own actions, he will feel even worse.

I don't mean to target you, but really, it is not funny. We can't understand how hurtful something can be for someone. If you really had a lot of bitcoins stored in your wallet, would your thoughts disappear over a few nights?

Losing my phrase key and lost my bitcoin can not make me decide to commit suicide, it will never happen, if I commit suicide what did i gain by doing that? I gain nothing than being the most foolish person in the world, no matter what happens in our life we should always believe that is it meant to happen and it is destined to happen to us, no one can change what god has planned for us, sometimes we lost something to prove that we can do better than before.

I know it is very painful when people lost their bitcoin and it is not easy to buy bitcoin and later got scammed, no one will not feel the pain but if we commit suicide what is our gain? This is one of the reasons they say make good research about something before you jump into it, not just read online, ask physical people, he might have been a newbie at the time he created the wallet and must have thought that the phrase keys were something not that important, we learn everyday and there is a lesson here and that lesson is that no matter what ever it is we want to do its a good thing to take your time and research on it before jumping, research and also ask people in your area
Some of these guys just use chatgpt for guidelines and then jump into uncharted territory.
