Paghahambing ng mga Open Source na Hardware Wallets

Mainit init pa ang balita sa Ledger hack ng kanilang 3rd party services na Global-E, ang e-commerce at payment processing platform na humahawak sa kanila. At nagka roon ng breach sa Global-E at na exposed ang data ng mga customer ng Ledger. Kaya naisipan ko kung ano pang hardware wallets ang pwede nating gamitin maliban sa dalawang sikat na hardware wallet. Pinili ko ang mga open source na hardware wallet para transparent at pwede makita nang kung sino ang code.

Kinumpara ko rin ang mga ito patungkol sa kanilang mga security features, at kung anong cryptocurrency ang sinusuportahan nila. Siyempre ang pagiging open source at transparent din nila. At ang huli ay ang presyo (may isa na out of stock sa ngayon). Gusto ko sanang mag dagdag ng recommendasyon, pero wala naman akong hawak ng mga to kaya hindi ko na sinama. Dinagdag ko rin kung ease of use at kalakasan at kahinaan base sa mga nakalap ko na sources. Pero sigurado ako na iba-iba parin ang mga experience ng mga taong may hawak na to sa atin dito.

4. Presyo - Presyo naman ang sinilip ko dito, depende na rin to sa palitan ng US dollar. May iba na pag check out automatic na Philippine Peso dahil siguro nakita ang IP address ko. Yung iba hindi naman at kailangan mo pa i-convert sa Peso at yung isa naman at Out of stock sa ngayon. And ang mga presyo na to ang yung pinakamura sa mga model nila. *Paalala lamang: Kahit gaano kamahal at kaganda ang ating hardware wallet, kung hindi naman natin alam ang tamang paggamit at pag backup, maaari parin nating mawala ang ating crypto. Kaya ugalling pag aralan ang opsec at i-practice to.

Magandang approach ’to, lalo na yung pag-focus sa open-source hardware wallets, kasi kahit hindi mismong wallet ang na-hack, malinaw na malaking risk pa rin ang third-party attack surface. Totoo na mas may tiwala kapag transparent ang code, pero importante pa ring tingnan ang supply chain security, firmware updates, at kung gaano ka-active ang dev community. Sa huli, walang “perfect wallet” — tamang threat model at sariling disiplina pa rin ang pinaka-importante.

I like the idea of open-source HW, gusto ko din ng ganito. Salamat sa pag share OP  but we have to acknowledge that this wouldn't apply to everyone. Remember, there are different types of users coming the cryptocurrency space and iba iba din ang idea kung ano ang sa tingin nilang pwedeng gawin sa wallets. Because sa tingin ko, ang magiging approach ko is more like this

What am I?

• Long term HODLer
• Traveler
• Multisig User

After idetermine kung ano yung user, then tska mag decide kung anong device ang maganda. Of course, the known and famous brands ang pinaka madali for the beginner and not a factor for long term hodler. Pag palagi ka nag ttravel, magiiba din para makapagtransact ka using your phone etc. For high value users, maybe the multi factor type.

Sa mga binahagi mo naman OP, siguro yung BitBox02 ang pinaka friendly. Keystone for the NFT users.


Maganda siguro mag simula ng company dito tapos maging local reseller kasi sa tingin ko wala pang nag bebenta nito na verified.

Good list pero as SFR10 said, marami pang ibang open source wallets and most probably, since tuloy-tuloy ang pag-sikat ng Bitcoin at other cryptocurrencies, marami pang lalabas na magagandang open sourced hardware wallets in the near future.

As a constant user, siguro ito magiging wishlist ko sa features for future hardware wallets:

• Open-source, syempre
• Airgap w/qr code support
• No fancy screens ('yung enough 'lang 'to display the TXiD) - dapat din durable
• Bigger and more durable actual buttons (pass sa touchscreens)
• Altcoin support and, if possible, custom import ng gusto mo na coin/token
• Support for transaction batching

Sa mga nailista mo OP, 'yung gusto ko bilhin dyan dati (at that time na naghahanap ako ng replacement sa Ledger) is 'yang Foundation Passport.
Aside sa retro design 'nya na gustong-gusto ko, swappable 'din 'yung battery 'nyan sa old nokia phones.   Problema 'nga 'lang is out of stock palagi at kung meron man, walang local reseller.

Na update ko na, kulang pala ng isang closing bracket. 

Siguro nga kaya out of stock, dahil luma na at baka mag released ng bago. Gusto ko nga rin isama ang mga official resellers site. Pero nag decide na ako na wag na at para makapag research din talaga tayo. Parang guide lang to sa mga gustong bumili. At siguro nga mag uupgrade ang Foundation kasi yung una kong nakitang website na kung saan ako tinuturo eh nagpalit na rin ng bago.

@julerz12 - Yes, agree ako na marami pang lalabas na bagong features ang mga hardware wallets na to. Isa na rin kung sila at Quantum resistant. At alam kung isa ka sa mga sasagot din bilang campaign manager for sure sa hardware wallet nakatago ang mga funds mo?

@crwth - tama ka, iba ibang crypto enthusiast, iba't ibang application in terms of wallet use. Pero siyempre yung iba beginner tapos mage-evolved at in the future hardware wallet ang gusto na nila.

Kasi parang ang hirap dito sa Pilipinas, naka kita ako dati Ledger wallet yun authorized reseller siya tapos meron siya sa shoppee kaso problema sa Ledger wallet ay hindi siya open sourced.

Almost closed source hardware wallet ang binebenta nila, pero nakita ko na meron silang Bitbox02. At ang version na binebenta nila  eh yung Bitcoin + Multi-coins. Dalawang version kasi ang Bitbox02, meron Bitcoin only at meron yung kasama ang ibang cryptocurrency.
