Depending on the society you find yourself. Some parts of the world value the dead more than the living. This.could be seen in most parts like the southern and Western parts of Nigeria. Especially the southern parts of the country. They fan go as far as selling of proper and taking huge loans they end up paying for years just for the sake of having a big burial or a relative who they proberbly did not not even care for when they were alive.
It looks like different families competing on who buried his relative in the best of ways. But you will be surprised at how they treat themselves when the person is alive.
They careless for each other with no support for each other but once its a burial then all the things change to who does it better.
I feel bad when I see people spend a fortune on burial ceremonies. Some of them buy caskets that are so expensive, yet they would be eaten by termites within a short period. Nobody cares about the health of relatives, but they would easily contribute money to give the dead a befitting burial.
In the Northern part of Nigeria, which is mainly occupied by Muslims burials are so cheap that caskets are replaced with cheap mats. Even the presidents who are Muslims were buried with cheap cloths and mats.
