Interest check: The Bitcoin Record vinyl LP (2024)

Just a short while back when Bitcoin Magazine (the shop) sold a variety of bitcoin-related collectibles, before they took down most of their offerings, they had up for sale a vinyl record which I thought was titled Bitcoin is a Record but might actually be The Bitcoin Record based on what's actually written on the back cover of the LP.  There's no catalog number, it can't be found on discogs, and the only website I could find with info about it was the announcement of the contest through which musicians could submit songs and potentially get their tracks pressed on wax.

I purchased several of these and have been thinking about selling a couple, but I have absolutely no idea if there's a market for them, and if there is, what one would go for, price-wise.  They're all still sealed and have been kept in outer sleeves to protect the shrink wrap--if you look in the dictionary under 'anal' there's a picture of me as a child rearranging my comic book collection whilst in the background my parents can be seen with obvious expressions of concern on their prematurely wrinkled faces as they look on.  *Ahem*

Wow, I guess this sort of thing really doesn't appeal to a lot of folks--I can't think of any other reason for the lack of replies other than the fact that I just created this thread the other day (but with no responses, it was destined to hit page 3 in no time and thence die a death beneath time and words).

So if nobody gives any feedback within two days I'll lock this up.

Well that's the thing--I don't have a clue as to what its market value might be, because I can't find another one of them for sale on the web.  I know what I paid for it but suspect that it might be worth a bit more now that Bitcoin Magazine isn't selling them anymore.  That's the kind of input I'm hoping to get, along with opinions on it in general.

And I know I could do an auction here, but I've never done one.  I'd much prefer selling BTC collectibles here rather than ebay simply because I value the members in this section quite a bit and would throw ebay an anchor if I saw it drowning.

I'm bumping this thread because I'm looking to sell at least one copy I have of this, and right now the forum is my first choice (out of two, with the second being feebay).  If there is any interest, I'll start an auction.

BTW, I've never done an auction on the forum before, so I'm not sure if I'm breaching protocol here or not.  Any advice would be appreciated--as would any input regarding this vinyl release.

That's true, but if not on bitcointalk, where would there be any gathering of humans who might have interest in such a fine piece of wax?  It really is a niche item.

As a matter of principle, I would not use X if they promised, and could deliver, on-demand fellatio for the duration of my lifetime.  Or anything, you know what I'm saying?  It's not an Elon thing; I shunned them before he bought the cow and teleported away like Nightcrawler from the X-Men.  So that's that.

I do hope you remember this thread and also that other members might post here.  I need to get rid of at least one copy; I'm trying to unload some of the heavier things in my collection, and you might be aware that boxes of vinyl will cause your floor to bow if you've got enough of them.  Lol.  Thanks for your input!

I just searched for anything that contained "bitcoin" and was on vinyl.  The record I have didn't show up (not unexpectedly), and there weren't a lot of results anyhow.  I've no clue how to price this if I were to sell it as a BIN on ebay, and I'm afraid if I started an auction with a very low starting bid and no reserve price, someone would get it cheap.

Pssst....ebay and their fees just keep getting suckier as the years go on.

Just to clarify that I read your post correctly:  you bought 11 of the "Bitcoin is a Record" LP that's the subject of my thread here?  Did you open any of them, play them, or am I misunderstanding what you wrote entirely?

I'm a sucker for sealed vinyl, don't know why, so I haven't opened any of my copies.  Plus I don't have a turntable (though they're dirt cheap in my state).

I'm sure you give a fuck.}  I was just curious, because there's something (or perhaps a few things) about this release that intrigue me--and one of them is the question of how many were actually sold.  They were on Bitcoin Magazine's site for quite a bit, but I think on that day when the whole website seemed to transform into an abandoned thrift shop late last year they were no longer available, and I don't think they sold out completely.

I also think there were 500 pressed and may have written that in another post, but I am so damn tired right now I'm not going to look.  Wonder if that's true and where all the vinyl went.  I'm sure I'll never know.

And man, don't you think this record would look good on the wall in a frame?

if by serious you mean - just simply answering your question, then yes if meant anything else, then no.

I also wish to know how many were made/sold - have not had any definitive answer though.

all my bitcoin records are on the wall - I still take them down and listen to them though .

I collect anything I can find that is Bitcoin themed - my goal is to preserve as many Bitcoin collectibles as I can: art/books/newspapers/coins/notes/hardware etc etc.  I try very hard to not get duplicates though. and my goal is to never sell or peel.

Impressive! Wouldn't have guessed there are at least 11 Bitcoin themed records out there.
As they're not present in any catalogue, maybe you could make a catalogue of them here if you want/have the time?

The only Bitcoin record I know of is Proof of Beats LP Record, which I do own a couple.
