The article basically says when spotting scams/redflags, use your community to find information about the project and the people working in it, but do not just believe the hearsay, you have to do your own research, and if you are still unsatisfied even after everything that you found, then you can check it out for yourself.

This was the key insight shared by Patricia Arro, a co-contributor of the developer community OpenGuild, during a panel discussion at Unfiltered 2026—The Next Play, the first IRL event of BitBulaga by Museigen and GCrypto this year.

The “Small World” Advantage

For Arro, the community is so small that reputation travels fast within the ecosystem. “You will see the same faces,” she noted.

If a project or a person has a history of bad practices, there will almost certainly be “bad comments” circulating within the industry. These whispers, she suggested, are the first hint of whether a collaboration is a good idea.

But Arro clarified that spotting a red flag does not end on hearsay but urged the audience that if there are bad outbursts within the industry, they should investigate it on their own.

However, Arro clarified that due diligence should not end with hearsay. She urged the audience to investigate claims actively.

She recommended checking specific Telegram communities where members openly discuss the habits and track records of different crypto projects.

The “Test It Yourself” Approach

Despite the value of community warnings, Arro shared she personally still prefers to verify the red flags herself.

“If the community is saying, like, ‘These projects, these teams are not good to work with,’ I still want to know it myself before I stop collaborating with them.”

For Arro, this firsthand experience is the final judge. If the project proves the negative rumors true through their actions, only then will she cut ties.

To give you an actual example- if bumisita kayo sa isang project depicting itself as a genuine cryptocurrency, then always check itong mga information:

• Team member page, if meron;
• Whitepaper, if meron;
• Domain ng website;
• Downloadable wallet links;
• Name ng project dito sa forum just in case may nag report na dito; and
• Overall aesthetics ng website.

Sa team member page, you can use different applications to see kung AI-generated ba yung kanilang mga members;
Sawhitepaper, you can easily copy+paste yung contents nito and ilagay mo sa google to check if ninakaw or ginaya ba nila ito sa mga previous projects and/or coins;
Sa domain naman ng website, you can use

para makita kung kailan ba nakuha yung domain;

Sa wallet links, you can use

para ilagay dito kung may injected na malware sa kanilang wallet, if possible; and

Sa overall design ng website, always check if masyadong generic yung itsura nito compared to other websites.

At the end of the day, even if ginawa mo itong mga steps na sinabi ko, there is still that possibility na baka makalusot sila on your observation. Kaya always be vigilant before you invest. If may nakita ka na agad na red flag, AVOID and wag mo nang hintayin ma scam ka.

Tapos kapag napansin natin na puro kilalang mga celebrity o popular influencers sa social media ang nagpopromote ng isang projects ay asahan mo ng sa simula lang ito magiging mainit na usapin at humahantong na sa too good to be true na yung mga sinasabi ay hindi dapat talaga agad-agad paniwalaan.
