There is no right and wrong time to sell your long term investment, what will determine when you should sell is a personal choice. Some people sell part of their long term investment to diversify into other areas while some sell part of their long term investment just to spend the money and enjoy the proceed of their investment while leaving the other part for their children and heirs. I will not forget to mention some who sell upon retirement so they can maintain the same standard of living they had when they were in active service. The reason varies and whatever it is, it should be well calculated so the investment can make meaningful impact in the life of the investor.

This isn’t a question that actually needs to be asked because once you actually start to invest in bitcoin you need ti have a target for your holdings when you wish to actually sell it. For some investors most of their investments targets are actually based on time, some will set a target of selling it to the next 10 years, more or less. While for others they will be setting a price target maybe they have certain amount they need from that asset, for example they can set target of $1m for one bitcoin.

 Also can set a target of certain times they want their total investment should appreciate too. For example if aftdg a gradual accumulation of the asset is done and maybe the total amount invested is like $1k the investor can set a target of maybe 5x or 10x of his invested capital until he sells his asset.

For me I actually sets price target such that when it triggers I can sell, because timely target might not get me the value price I want

Holding your bitcoin a longer time, especially in cycles will help you getting more profit but if you feel like you need money or need to take profit for feeling and enjoying your succcess from investment, you can do it. Just don't sell all bitcoin you have as it can make you regret later. You can sell some part of your bitcoin portfolio like 20% of it, not more.

It is true that we can't just hold onto our bitcoins until we die, how stupid that would be, therefore we must have a plan in place, that we want to invest X amount in bitcoin, for X year or X price per bitcoin. Once you understand this and know when to stop, then you will have to plan about your phase of distribution.

Some plans to invest for too long as I also plan the same, my plan is not to make a lot of money but to support myself in hard times, It is more like a emergency funds but invested I know it is not recommended and I would also not recommend it but considering the amount I have, and the way I am selling, and the way I am accumulating, I think the best is to make a plan and do the same excluding the line where I talked about emergency funds, keep them apart.

Well, basically the right time totally depends on you because it is your decision to make but choosing what the right time will be depends on your target or goals. Let’s break this down, as I’ve seen in some of the posts ahead of mine…if your target profits is already archived you can decide to sell part of your investment to take profits and buy again when the market dips but it might be that you can end up regretting your actions if the price pumped more and that’s why you need a long term investment goal because if the goal is archive then even if the price pumped more than how you sold you wouldn’t regret selling because you’ve already archived that goal of yours.


Also some people do sell part of their coins after a fixed certain time and profit to take the profits from their investment and buy again with the capital that remains but everyone has the way he does his investment, so if you should research and understand the market then it can help you know when you’ll sell but this totally depends on personal preference.

I really don't know if there is a right time to sell your Bitcoin. I think that it is very subjective. My reason for holding may very well different from yours and my reason for selling too differs.
Someone who sees Bitcoin as a retirement plan to enjoy his last few years on earth will have a different reason to sell fro. Someone who sees Bitcoin as an investment to be harvested in five years time. It all depends on your reason for buying in the first place . Done may even want to leave it as inheritance for their children, it's now up to the children to sell it not.

I bought my first Bitcoin at 3800, and i remember that day as it was yesterday.
However, i have sold and bought back again trough the cycles, but i have more now, than back when i first bought bitcoin,

It probably depends on your need to sell it. It's easy to sell at any price. The question is, are you willing to sacrifice what you could have gotten if you waited? Is the profit you'll make from what you're holding now enough if you decide to sell it? We have different target selling prices. The right time to sell Bitcoin is a question you should ask yourself because every time you invest in Bitcoin you naturally have a goal and a target. It's also important to understand that everyone has different goals and objectives, so finding the right answer is difficult.

If you have a target for your investment, especially if you've held it for a long time selling it is the right choice especially when the market is currently in poor condition. I mean, you can sell it wait for the lowest price to buy back and hold it for the long term. Trust me everyone invests in Bitcoin to make a profit so once you've reached your goal there's no harm in taking profits and waiting for the price to drop to buy back. It all depends on when you entered the market... If you entered the market 2 years ago, selling now is not a good option. You have missed the 120k target. So, you have a long time so wait. This is for one cycle investors. Meanwhile, there are people who just want to invest for 2 cycle, so, no matter how high the price goes, they will surely wait for the next bull run to leave the market.

There are those who exit the market in a reverse DCA method and I think that is the best method to exit the market. So, if the market crashes on you, just as it did to me, relax and wait for 2030

Just sell when you think you made enough profits and it doesn'tneed to be your entire stash, just sell the amount that you need at that time and keep HODLing the remaining.

P.S. I doubt long terms investors will have such questions.

I think this should be differentiated between emergency funds and investments, but I understand what you mean.
At least don't let the emergency fund money invested be sold halfway down, it will be a loss, so I always make an exception about this where the two must be separated.

It's only concerning if you don't have any price target or don't have any take-profit percentage from your initial investment. It's really difficult to time the market but if you have some target, then just plan it ahead and just sell when it's right in front of you.
