There is no right and wrong time to sell your long term investment, what will determine when you should sell is a personal choice. Some people sell part of their long term investment to diversify into other areas while some sell part of their long term investment just to spend the money and enjoy the proceed of their investment while leaving the other part for their children and heirs. I will not forget to mention some who sell upon retirement so they can maintain the same standard of living they had when they were in active service. The reason varies and whatever it is, it should be well calculated so the investment can make meaningful impact in the life of the investor.

Exactly. People sell for different reasons, and all of them are valid as long as the owner benefits from it. However, selling will only gone wrong if you sell it at a loss, which means you probably end up panic selling and sell your coins at a wrong timing. But other than that, as long as you sell because it's your own will, then no other person should question that.

There is no profits without selling, so everyone should take time to sell if there are chances and opportunities to sell.

i think there is no perfect time honestly people always say hold forever but life is life. sometimes you need money, sometimes market scare you. It depends on your profit goals. For many, the right time was years ago when Bitcoin reached $15,000; for others, it was when it reached $30,000. Although I don't follow it myself, I personally would say it's a better option to consider bitcoin as an asset and hold it for a long time because it will be an asset for our lifetime. And the most interesting thing here is that we won't have inflation, but rather the value of the asset will more than double every season.
But even then, if people have a personal goal, for example, if I plan to buy an apartment ten years from now and I hold Bitcoin, then I will target the year of the potential bull season around 10 years from now to sell Bitcoin, and of course I will try to keep the sale time here so that the first phase of the bull run ends and when it recovers after going into the bear trap, I will sell it at the last  all-time high price to stay risk-free.

It's definitely not now. Price has been bearish for some time now and I guess many investors would be tempted to want to sell. Buh now would be the wrong or wrongest time to sell your coins because the market is bearish.

The right time to sell your bitcoin is after you have seen at least 4 cycles or even more. Though this is just my own ideology, because it depends on your investment plan to enter and exit the market..

Basically, you sell your BTCs when you need it! It's as simple as that because BTC has a huge store of value which also makes it, in some way, an asset.
Let me ask you OP- what is the goal of your investments? Why do people invest in general?

People invest because they want their resources and investment materials to increase in value overtime so that they could take advantage of the current resources that they have now. Mostly, people invest the money that they are willing to lose because they do not need it at the moment.

In conclusion, the right time to sell your BTCs would be the time where you actually need it; OR when you are satisfied that you have matured its value depending on the parameters you have planned.

At the peak of a bull run but you can’t time the peak so you just selling above previous all time high is the right time to sell as long as you are in profit but that comes after 4 years of you over accumulation stage which got real not everyone attains such height but in my opinion if you have accumulated enough to the extent that you are satisfied you can sell 4 years after you have done the long accumulation.

Let this not bother you @op. Everyone who is hodling should have a target because if they do not have, they will be tempted at every price movement to sell. This target could be an amount of savings you intend to get or the duration of time you intend to hodl for. Avoid panicking when the target has not be met and do not fall for greed when you reach your target, sell immediately.

There is no perfect time to sell. Those who sold their bitcoins during the last bullrun are regretting why they sold when they did instead of hodling further for it to appreciate more. Just have a plan and stick to it, you'll get less regrets.

It probably depends on your need to sell it. It's easy to sell at any price. The question is, are you willing to sacrifice what you could have gotten if you waited? Is the profit you'll make from what you're holding now enough if you decide to sell it? We have different target selling prices. The price may be acceptable to you, but others may want to wait and add more later. The decision is ultimately up to the holder to determine which option is more comfortable for them.

If there's no immediate need for the profits, then don't bother to sell, as simple as that. Selling has no right or wrong timing, as long as you sell for profits, but if you sell and suffer losses after, that is already a sign of lack of initiative. You choose when you want to sell, you might want to make 2x or 3x profit from your buying price - so sell when it is achieved. If you have an emergency and need funds you liquidate the bitcoin. It is your money and hence the choice is yours.

The point is that if there is no dire need or funds, bitcoin should be hold because it is deflationary and your bitcoin will cost a lot more in the upcoming years if you were to hold it.

But consider how long you will live anyway, so keep some funds to active selling as well.

i don’t think there is a definitive answer to when because it all depends on you ans when you have felt fulfilled enough to sell your bitcoin but i also don’t think you should put a definitive stop to it. investment is for long term and life-long so i’ll sell a bit but i’ll keep some in bitcoin to keep protecting my money.

Although history of Bitcoin has Bitcoin rising over time, network has no idea of human life cycles and with close to 4 million BTC already lost either through death or forgotten keys, endless hold is zero use risk in case you do not make it. Multi key Inheritance setups and Transfer on Death vaults that allow investor to leave to next family but still be able to sell small parts to their own quality of life are being moved to.

Right time to sell, in my opinion, is not random price goal but Life Event goal, such as selling 5-10 percent at big steps such as $100k mark which will give you freedom that Bitcoin offers you now and keep your spot in future. Selling now would cause us to lose a significant amount of profit because Bitcoin has fallen more than 30% from its peak. However, this will depend on the average purchase price as well as each person's goal

If you bought Bitcoin many years ago and the current price is still higher than your original target. You are happy with that profit, there is no problem selling at the current price

Holding bitcoin until death, means that you will not enjoy the results so it will be useless. Unless you pass it on to your children.

And then your children will sell your bitcoins to buy skins in the games haha, I don't want that, if I am making efforts, I want to get something in return for myself too, so I am selling, buying something cool and will enjoy it or donations can be better but I am not saying don't leave anything for the kids, I am not married yet but I know, kids are not the same.

Regarding profits, I want to hold longer, but because of the temptation of profit, I always sell at 100% profit even though people target profits of more than 200% because they invest for a long time but prefer what has become their own target.

I have learned that if we are investing for a very long time, we should never sell at 2x or 3x profit, we should wait more, because I have been buying when the price of bitcoin was ranging from $25k to $30k. Then I stopped buying at $40k because I thought it is enough now. But I was wrong, it is never enough.

We should keep accumulating, but at that time, which was really a golden time for me, I should have invested more and the amount I sold, should not have been sold, even if I sold at good rates hehe. The point is, yes emergency funds should be kept aside but really I don't have that kind of emergencies, I have expenses that came out of budget allocated to it. So, any expenses that are unexpected, I treat them as emergency but I don't sell my bitcoins for that, but if it is too necassary to be dealt and I am not getting any loans, I sell my ETH hehe.

I firmly believe there's no "right" time to sell bitcoin. Not only because it's impossible to predict future price movements, but also because dramatic changes can occur in your life. Looking at the current price of bitcoin (less than $80k) and what it was last year (~$120k), the right choice would have been to sell at $100-110k, but we only learned that later (after all the events had taken place). The same would apply to selling bitcoin in an attempt to "catch the right moment". In the current timeframe, we can't know whether it's the right time or not. Therefore, to avoid losses, should sell from time to time, following the reverse DCA strategy, i.e., averaging out.

In general, you should develop your own business plan (for selling bicoin) and stick to it.

To avoid worrying about "Memento Mori", sell part of your bitcoins (and use it for your current needs), and keep the rest as a future pension, a "insurance deposit", or an inheritance for your descendants (let everyone choose their own "correct" option).

Unless there is a serious need to sell bitcoin I dont see any real reason for making this choice. Attention btc to me needs to be spent, I have always done and sincerely this is the best way to help the technology by itself.

Nowadays, it's really easy to avoid to spend directly... by using btc for collateral. Or in general, as suggested in some other topics, you can withdraw just small portions of your wealth. Of course "memento mori". But you have done all this effort for a fast car? Did you think that the best advantage of bitcoin cuold be buying some luxury items?
