There are people in this forum they are just moving around looking for accounts they can easily hack and I most say they have succeeded in hacking some accounts in this forum. Those that newly joined this forum make Una Dey very careful and make Una protect Una account very well to avoid it from being hacked because e no easy to grow account for this forum. I will list few things you need in order to protect your account from hackers. 1. Hide your email: newbie you need to hide your email address, I mean the email address you used in opening your account you need to hind it so that other people that visit your profile won’t be able to see it. If hackers know the email address you used to open your forum account you have made the job very easy for them. This is how you can hide it. 2. Use Two-factor authentication: this will also help protect your account from hackers and to do this in your account is very easy just click on the account related settings same place for the Email hiding, when it opens go down you will see Two-factor authentication. 3. Don’t use public or other people’s WiFi to login your account: some people can get your information through this process and when they do they can login your account and can take it from you if they want so don’t use public or people’s WiFi to login your account into Bitcointalk forum. Replying to you made me remember something those that just create an unexciting email just to open account on bitcointalk forum hope you have created a real email with the formulated email name you used in opening account do so if you have not because someone can open an email with that name and with that can have full control over your account.

Avoid fake sites like this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5573158.0Someone can send you link to a fake site through PM. Make sure you stake your bitcoin address so that you can be able to claim back your account if it is hacked. Know that if your email is compromised, the 2FA is useless.

The most important thing is to take care that your password does not leak. If the email is secure, it is often possible to recover the account, so keep carefully the email so that it does not get hacked. I have seen many people use the same password for everything, including social media.I f any password is hacked, the next hacker who tries to log in to the forum with that password will still be able to easily gain access. But if he doesn't know the email or username, then there is some protection. This should also be kept in mind. You should never log in to someone else's device except your own. Many times, when go somewhere far away, they log in using someone else's computer. this is not right too.
And I saw a post on the forum yesterday where a fake Phishing site that looks like Bitcointalk has been leaked. Where the name of the website address is changed slightly and the interface remains the same. If you log in there by mistake, the password and user ID go to the hacker. Although many people now know all these things, many still make careless mistakes.

In most of the conditions, if we don't allow for people to scam us, they may never get an entry from anyway if not from our own vulnerability, this is why it is very essential also that we also try as much as possible to learn more about the security measures before they tempt us to bridge on them, what we don't know can cost us so much, because we can't prevent ourselves from falling into such trap, In addition to what OP highlighted, don't share device with anyone in login into the forum and when changing your device, don't sell them, instead destroy and burn them.

Making the job easier for them Like how? Because if I can remember correctly the only thing they could do if they eventually get your email is to click on forgetting password and when the message Pop up in your screen your instinct will tell you that someone is attempting to hack your account and then you will just ignore the messages or better still you can enable OTP (one time password) in other to tighten the security of your account. But in all i would say that it's advised to hide our forum email because this scammers is literally becoming something else, we might feel that they can't do anything with it but you will be surprised to see them taking your account from you by getting your email so any informations that comes here shouldn't be take for granted.

Even though it's essential using all the necessary measures like using a active or functional email address, enabling the two factory authentication and all that it's still very important we stay very careful and stay off from these am about to mention : clinking on unknown or strange link, giving our phone's to someone especially to those with full knowledge about this tech stuff, charging our phones in public charging centre , trying to login our account with someone else phone, these are things we shouldn't compromised for no reasons because losing and account that take so much in building is something no one will ever let slide so easily.

3. Don’t use public or other people’s WiFi to login your account: some people can get your information through this process and when they do they can login your account and can take it from you if they want so don’t use public or people’s WiFi to login your account into Bitcointalk forum.
Everything wey you list down here makes sense and if we go fit follow through, e go help to an extent, but wetin really call my attention na this number three. Using someone or public Wi-Fi can be dangerous, but wetin I feel say need to be among is using someone's phone or PC to log into your account, that move dy very dangerous, because at a point you fit forget to log am out, and sometimes some devices dy save login details wey the person fit exploit. So these na one thing we need to avoid doing to be at the safer side.

In as much as your email is compromised there a chance that not only your Bitcointalk account will be hacked, if you have used your email to create any crypto exchange, those exchange will be watched and if by chance you deposit money any coin into in (the ones you want to trade or the ones you just bought) and you leave it there for a while, before you go back the coin will be gone. A smart hacker will not log you out from the exchange, it will be logged on your device and hey will also delete every recent mail about the new device. However as someone who's exposed, you should no that using a totally different from of password is very important whenever you are setting password on your Gmail account. Doing this makes it very difficult for someone to guess your Gmail password. Not only your Gmail, even forum password, use a different letters and symbols that's not included on your username and your Gmail. If your Bitcointalk account is hacked and you can no longer recover back and you and create awareness in the future, even the hacker can not use it because it will be tagged (red), untill you recover back the account before the tag will be removed. It is wise to active 2FA authenticator on your Bitcointalk account to prevent hack.

Actually i have learned about the essential things you mentioned, hiding your email and enabling two-factor authentication but your third point is very interesting because I never imagined that using public or other people's WiFi could lead to account hacking. This can be honest and unselfish advice because hackers will intelligently sit around waiting for account information like this, therefore according to this advice, we should refrain from using such WiFi. Since many newbies of our Naija local board may not know the process of enabling two-factor authentication, I am providing this link as a guide for them, from where it will be easier to learn about this process. How u go fit tay run d 2FA feature for BitcoinTalk https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5479133.msg63380219#msg63380219

Thanks for creating this thread on our local board this kind of topic is mostly created on other boards it’s very important that we have them here too as it will really help a lot of people especially those tha Are new in this forum, I think if you can just keep your email very private it will be impossible for them to hack your account and again you can input your bitcoin address on your bitcointalk account so you can be able to claim back your account if it is being hacked by someone. Lastly I will advise people not to trust anyone with their phone most of this hack people complain about in this forum is done by someone close to them who also has account in this forum so be very careful.

Good idea, to add to what OP said, I think it's also good to stake your Bitcoin wallet on this thread Stake your Bitcoin address here, that will make it possible to prove that you own a particular account if it got hacked. It's also good to set up the security question on your account and also apply for the 2F authenticator. These process add more security to user's account.

This is a very helpful post for beginners. It is very important to ensure adequate security to keep your account safe. In the case of two-factor, make sure that you do not lose access in any way. If by mistake you are unable to get the two-factor code, then it will be impossible for you to access the account as well. Moreover, I consider this as basic security, which everyone should know and probably most members know.
Extra security should be taken when using the network. Try to avoid accessing important accounts using a second person's network and be careful before giving network permissions (hotspot) from your device to a third-party device.

I don’t think just by seeing the email address on your profile a hacker could just guess the password to the email. In as much as account could be hacked by getting into you mail but just the address on your profile isn’t enough info for that to be done a hacker need to get into the mail and I believe once a new device try to login or tamper with our email we get immediate notification to grant or deny access.
Maybe you should review your statement again and weigh the security risks. Your email may be difficult to hack just by having the address alone but that doesn't mean phishing links can't be sent and you can't say you'll definitely bet on being able to tell them every time. There are reasons why it's hidden by default. And it seems you are mistaking Gmail for Email. ~ snip
I can still remember I created a thread for this too. If I find it I'll leave a link to it here. I was expecting the first or second thing on your list to be staking your address.

This is a very helpful post but not without some mistakes..
1st mistake Directing this post to newbies is kind of awkward because no body will try to hack a newbie account, not when registering a new account on this forum is free.
2nd mistake Email addresses is not enough to get an account hacked, there is also the password, users need to make their passwords very strong with the minimum of 8 to 10 combinations of small and capital letters, symbols and numbers, with this, even if you don't hide your email address, hackers can never be able to guess your password.
And lastly, activating 2fa is a very good advice as well, but it must be on a second device, 2fa activated on the same device used to login and access this forum is half useless.

This warning is strong and timely. Hacking account is a real problem on this kind of forums, mostly for users that are new who possibly do not know the risks. Simple steps like keeping your email hidden, enabling two factor authentication, and staying away from public wiFi would make a huge difference. A lot of accounts that were hacked are lost because of some basic security errors, not advanced tricks. To grow an account here takes a lot of time and effort, hence securing it has to be a priority. The advice is a practical one, easy to follow, and worth repeating frequently. Particularly new members should take this seriously and remain alert. Safety online is the responsibility of everyone.

You don try with you post and yes I agree with you say, these scammers no Dey rest and dem Dey seek every possible means to teal and hack people account but the truth be say, these moment your account is hacked that's if it ever happens, I think you can recover it immediately by creating a new post and raising alarm and signing a previous wallet address. Nobody suppose wait for their accounts to get hacked because them go take precautionary measures and na why Oyibo say prevention is better than cure

I don't think making your email visible will give hackers easy access to brute-force your account. Hiding it is just for privacy except a user is careless enough to store passwords on their digital devices mostly with password managers. The major focus is to stay accountable for all our details such that none can be found online that way our accounts will remain safe and difficult to hack. Also we should avoid using random devices to access our account. Sometimes we might forget to delete our information from the device or the device might store our details without our consent. It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Because there would be nothing as painful as trying to log in into your account, but you are denied access. Its so painful. I think the two way authenticator is also very important as it gives you extra security to your account. Weldon
