Why isn't the forum search as capable as Bpip? I am not a dev and I don't know how this stuff works but I find it annoying to use bpip seperatly when we have a search engine on the forum, is it impossible to do? Or this is just the way that the forum want it to be.

Yes, I think you are not the first one to complain about the forum's search function, but in any case you can read the following, You can also used @TryNinja Ninjastic.space now, BitList.

You use BPIP to search for posts? Really? I think you are confusing BPIP with bitlist.co (the tool that has been created by TryNinja). BPIP serves a different purpose and has been created to provide information and statistics about forum users.

Bitcointalk forums search option is built for basic and limited uses so it only shows basic keyword matching and limited filters. But Bpip on the other hand a third party website that collect information from Bitcointalk and display user information like merit activity , user profile , post , activity etc. it solely created for people to search something that can't be search from Bitcointalk. Bitcointalk run on very old forum software (SMF base) that's why it's slower and less optimized than Bpip

It's one of the questions that has been asked several times, yet it has no straight answer. I am not sure if it has something to do with the general functionality of the website (avoid too much resource usage and improve on loading speed), due to past hacks (at one point it was even disabled) and now it's limited to a reduce on future attacks
I guess you have no choice but stick to the available third party website since it does not seem to be something top priority for the admin

I think this thread highlights why people mix up BPIP’s purpose. It’s not a replacement for forum search, it’s more of an analytics and lookup tool built on top of BTT data. Given the forum’s history with load and attacks, relying on third-party tools feels like a practical compromise. Maybe just a short note near the search button explaining its limits and pointing to BPIP or similar tools like bitlist.co that was recently developed by @TryNinja would save curious users especially newbies from wondering if something is broken or not.

There is no search option on BPIP website and that never existed, and it's complicated to improve forum search and make it faster or more precise. What we had in last few years for better searching was Ninjastic.space website created by Tryninja, and that was recently renamed and moved to Bitlist website.

@StormHawk, let's get this straight, what exactly did you want to search for? If you are searching for a forum member, both Bpip and the forum search is capable of doing that, but if you are searching for a comment or a specific topic or thread, the forum search feature is powerful enough to give you the result you want, you just have to be family with how to use it. Let me show you a practical example with this topic: The search icon has 2 option when you click on it, you can use Google search or you can use forum search, both of them are very effective. Let's assume that this your topic is 5 months old already and I can't remember the complete title and I don't also remember your forum name but I remember the beginning of the topic as "Bpip vs", write it on the Google search and you will see results, then filter out the topic you are actually looking for. Do same for the "forum search" And if you remember the username of the OP, there's an option for you to insert it and then the searched result will be very precise. I posted some pictures below for you to see what I did. Google search; Forum search I can't do this on bpip, so I'm wondering what you searched there.

Why should Theymos spend his limited programming time working against the superior engines out there? Unless he wants to allow sponsored search results, there is no need for bct search.

Depends on how good you are at wordings. If you type the correct thing in the forum search box you'll likely get what you are searching for in the first page max. If you feel too uncomfortable using BPIP just simply proceed to using Google it has worked almost literally every time I tried it. This forum uses a very old form of setting and it's best we leave it this way other external tools are fine but this SMF quality in my opinion is part of what makes this place unique.

Third party tools are encouraged to lessen the load on BTT server. Just imagine the whole stuffs on Bpip being on the forum. The whole ninjastic, the talkimg and other third party tools all on BTT. This forum would be slow and vulnerable to a second attack.

Posts above already informed you that you can not search for posts and post content with BPIP so I won't point it out again. About searching on the forum with the forum search tool, it's not too good but if you know some search tips, you can do your searching better a little bit. Otherwise you can use third party search tools like Google or Ninjastic.space, now is Bitlist.co or talksearch.io or loyce.clubImprove your searching skills with this guide.

Are you trying to search for profiles? If so, BPIP is much better for that. Theymos disabled members listing some time ago for performance reasons, that's why "Members" page doesn't work and you can't really search for members there.

Even if the forum’s own search engine were improved, it still wouldn’t compare to something as advanced as Bitlist’s archive search tool. Most sites, including Bitcointalk, limit their search feature to just keyword searches. On Bitlist, you can look up posts from specific users, see what addresses they’ve used, and find deleted posts, among some other useful features.
I don’t find it necessary to use the built in search engine, when better options are available.

Loyce.club archives all forum posts, but you can't search for posts by words there. Theymos disabled members listing some time ago for performance reasons, that's why "Members" page doesn't work and you can't really search for members there.
It's only "View all members" tab that has been disabled by theymos. "Search for members" tab is working fine like before and you can still use it.

Why isn't the forum search as capable as Bpip?
BPIP and the search feature have different functions and ways of using them, there are certain reasons why the Bpip website and the search feature cannot be the same, they both have different options. For clarity, the OP has to read below, what is Bpip. Topic: [β] BPIP Extension: user info & extra features add-on/extension, Firefox/ChromeApa apa itu fitur pencarian. I have seen many of your suggesting newbies to use forum search. Instead of that, I would prefer you to ask them to use Google Dorking.
What is Google Dorking?: Google dorking is a passive attack or hacking method involving the use of a custom query.
Some Examples for Bitcointalk.org: Specific User Posts - site:bitcointalk.org "username" Specific Topic - site:bitcointalk.org "topic name" ICO Reviews - site:bitcointalk.org "ICO review" Altcoin Announcements - site:bitcointalk.org "ANN [Altcoin name]" Signature Campaigns - site:bitcointalk.org "signature campaign"
This will be easy to find you specific topic which you might won't be able to search via Forum's its own Search Feature or even normal google search.
I'm sure you will understand the use of both, don't look at what bpip produces, what is displayed in the search feature cannot be displayed in bpip and it's also better, don't look at it for beauty, look at the function of both.

You use BPIP to search for posts? Really? I think you are confusing BPIP with bitlist.co (the tool that has been created by TryNinja). BPIP serves a different purpose and has been created to provide information and statistics about forum users. I was confused as well. Why the hell would someone use BPIP to search for something? However, I do use BPIP to search for usernames that I do not remember. If I write loyce and search on BPIP, it shows all the results that have this word loyce. So, I use this platform to actually find a user profile that I do not exactly remember. As for post search, I have been using Bitlist for a while, and I loved it when TryNinja moved it to the new domain and made it more functional than before. We can now get live notifications there without using Telegram. I uninstalled Telegram a while ago, and the credit goes to these tools.

OP, third party sites have aided this forum in minimizing the workload of the site and i believe that the reason why the forum is easy to navigate is because of not many contents because if all contents that is associated to the forum is to be on bitcointalk.org alone, it can eventually slow down the site which will lead to poor user experience so this is basically some of the reasons why some forum members created third party sites to extend user experience. We have many third-party sites so it's not only BPIP.ORG, but we have also the ninjastic.space, talkimg.com and the rest of them. BPIP search button is mainly for usernames and user ID, while the forum's search area is mainly for posts.
