Why is draft missing on New Message page

I’m not used to composing my Messages using the forum on mobile but today I did and as I was about to complete it, i mistakenly refreshed. luckily, I already previewed it not too long before the refresh so I only lost the recent.

This is how I noticed the draft link was absent. I edited the page URL to access it anyway, it can be accessed from a normal post /topic  page too. But I needed to ask why it was missing… Is there any reason for hiding it?

Basically I feel like apart from the fact that some hierarchy of the forum access some level of information such thing is supposed to be hidden and the forum is not supposed to keep your private information or messages on its draft and that’s the honor they are doing by removing the visible draft button.

I appreciate it for privacy, bitcoin used to represent privacy and if the forum did guarantee us some privacy and safety it compliments the forum.

It’s not something that’s private to you only, I believe admin should be able to access from DB.. the point is that it’s visible to you only as a user just like your draft
if you want to pass any sensitive message then make use of PGP (Pretty Good Privacy).

Let’s say preview is there for fancy? Or maybe if you finish a message and you want to proof read especially for people like managers who deal more on professional kind of messagings. Just my thought but I’m sure theymos have his reasons for keeping it and I think it does exist too on other SMF websites, especially ones with kind of similarities with the forum.

Preview is only meant to show how the text looks when BBCode tags are applied.. If no BBCode is used, the preview is exactly the same as the written text.

If it’s only for preview, then it shouldn’t be saved in drafts. I’m not sure why it might have been hidden, which is why I’m asking. Personally, I don’t see any harm in having it, since the message is already available in the draft.

I haven't really paid attention to this before and I'm not sure why it's like that but I was thinking they may have left it that way anyways because every time you hit preview it gets saved as draft. I haven't really tried this for PMs but it ought to be same thing all through.

PM are not fully private actually and I think admins can actually see them. So it all depends on the level of privacy you are aiming to achieve plus don't forget drafts are saved for I think around 3 months max.

What information do you think that it's private in the forum? so far as you preview your post, whether the draft button is visible or not i think it has already been cached somewhere such that the forum's administrator and some other admin could be able to access them. Nothing is completely private in the forum but for private messages, you can encrypt them if you don't want it to be visible to any other person apart from you.

If you preview a private message and it's saved as draft. There's a high chance that you can paste what was meant to be private in a public thread.

If not, it could be that the function is just hidden for mobile. You know the forum was built on desktop first responsiveness.

You can only get back the draft post you previewed back if you go back to that same topic you were about to comment before you lost the post, then go to draft you would see series of posts you recently and previous previewed, higher the top as in the first post select all and go back the comments box and paste it back to continue your discussion.
One thing in regularly does it to save up my post as I am typing as anything could likely happen and I might lose all post if not saved on draft.

When you click on preview, your composing PM even not yet completed, will be saved in the forum draft page. I tested the Preview button with my composing PM three times and I saw the draft page saved it three times as well. I just composed the PM for test, previewed it, and I did not send it to anyone.

Not sure did you actually click on Preview button or it could be from non-functional session when you click on Preview likely with your connection to the forum.

I don't think there is any function on desktop that's hidden on mobile. The forum is built to be lightweight and easy access for all and I believe that is why the UI is still like this. No matter spec of the mobile device you are using as long as it has internet access the site is not an issue, and the draft page which also contains pm's previewed can be accessible logging in to your account on mobile.

That doesn't really work if you can still access it outside of the PM, feels more like it was just not paid attention to from the start because the moment you preview it, it gets automatically saved in draft, try making a regular post and you will still see in the the draft there so privacy is probably not the reason for it even though it seems like a really solid reason for not making draft accessable from there.
If it's really for privacy then it shouldn't even be accessable from a different post outside of the PM because if I can still access it from a different thread then it's not really private.

You can't expect the highest level of privacy on this forum; you are responsible for your own privacy through your own literacy. Furthermore, when it comes to legal matters, the admins would rather hand over your information than protect it.

I remember an April Fool's Day event years ago when some members posted selfies to the thread; it made me lol. At this point, protecting privacy is being thwarted by the users themselves.

Of course it will be there…

I only lost the most recent text, which I didn’t preview, but the previous text was still in the drafts. I’m not worried about the wall of text I lost because I know I was at fault for not previewing while using mobile.

I had to edit the page_url to access..but what I am trying to understand is why we need to edit the URL. Some users who don’t really understand how that works yet might end up trying to create a new post just to access their draft..instead, why not  having an embedded link <draft> just like the one used on every post.

I haven't really tried this for PMs but it ought to be same thing all through.

It’s same
