This is just a feeling.

I feel like there should be some penalty/punishment for people who PM others on the forum whereby what they are trying to tell me to do is pure scam.

I am certain that I am not the only person that is receiving PMs that are looking like scam on this forum, apart from ignoring which many people would do, they already show who they are, why can't we make them pay for even try to scam through forums PM?

You are defo not the only one receiving them, same here. But also looking on the bright sight you never know who you meet through those dms. It might be a good thing to keep the option open for PMs, maybe just a filter to avoid spams.

Another way that works, especially for newbies is for them to make such unsolicited messages public to ascertain the authenticity of such messages if they are unsure of message. With this, they will be sending awareness to other members of the forum. They will also get the chance to know what is real and what is not. The supposed scammer(s) will be exposed, ignored and blocked. That settles it.

If you receive unpleasant pm from a forum user, create a thread and attach the proof and post it to the forum, reputable members of the forum will look into it, if the pm deserves a neutral tag or negative tag, it's the forum people will decide...

You dont be ignoring a scam pm from a forum user, you need to publish the user so that other people will not be victim for he or her random pm...once is been tagged, the rate of his pm will subside...

If you want to make noise, create a thread like your approach.

If you only want to contribute silently and in a good way, you can use another approach, Just Reporting These PMs and these users. Forum moderators will handle your reports quickly enough and if you don't agree and satisfy with reporting results, it will be time for creating a thread in Meta board for discussion on it.

There is a rule on sending unsolicited PMs and phishing or malware. Accounts will be banned by moderators when they handle your reports.
6. No linking to phishing or malware, without a warning and a valid reason. [e]
29. Sending unsolicited PMs, including but not limited to advertising and flood, is not allowed.

Punishment for sending PMs to users which looks like spam or scam can be reported. I have come across many users report in the past that send unsolicited PMs to forum members and they are being punished for it. A negative tag from a one of the DT members will serve well. Any user they message henceforth or wants to deal with in the forum can as well see the tag and avoid them which makes their account becomes useless and not worthy of use to the them in the forum anymore due to the tag given to them.

There is a rule that holds against the action you have just pointed out, but the question is very simple you will have to make a report concerning the persons actions and the board will definitely have to take urgent measures to crack down this scammers, or you can likewise create a thread on the reputation board against the person that sent you an unpleasant PM message so it would be decided by the DT member who are responsible for making this decision, and it’s also wise to make all this horrible message very clear we shouldn’t be ignoring such messages in this forum because it will definitely paint a bad image of someone eventually gets scammed.

There should be no justifications for scamming people.

The only punishment that can be given to someone that is sending you a scam message is negative feedback by DT members and I don’t even see that as a very good punishment, if someone is reported to be involved in scam related activity and with evidence that he or she was really scamming people or trying to scam people I think banning such a person for some months or for ever will be better because scam is something that should not be allowed to happen or grow in this forum, but the negative tags will help others from not fallen victim to him or her again, so is still okay, because when someone sees a negative tag on scam on an account they won’t do anything with the account.

-snip-
It's clear you're saying it's pure fraud, now there's no more reason not to mention whose name is the person? Because scammers on this forum should not be allowed, unless you are just making up stories.

If what you said is true, I hope you can mention the name of the account here, so that no one else gets the same problem and this can have a deterrent effect on anyone who wants to try it.
If you don't mention the name, this is the same as hiding the scammer.
