Of course if you only win $2 million many people will use this money to invest in business, and some will invest in ilegal empires to make more and more money. With $2 million you can have a nice life but you can not buy a penthouse and many expensive cards, it's not enough and many people want to live like this.

There is a big temptation that usually strike when there is big money that was not expected, not only from gambling, it could be money from other sources. Exactly, it really boils down on how a winner will manage and hold that huge windfall that you got. It's really a life changer, but the thing is that there are people who are not ready to hold on it and just blew it off for the next couple of years. Just said to hear that this person goes back to the street again.

To me it is pretty obvious that the use of such high amounts of money depends on the personality and the background of those people who have such a high luck to change their life for good.

I did not know there were people who actually turned to crime after winning lottery. Usually one would think those who win the lottery get further away from crime, since they have already all their needs covered, but this thread and those cases are good examples than money brings more money, regardless it is clean or black money from crime.

This is very different from those cases of the new rich, who squander their money won on lotteries and end up in bankruptcy.

This wil be ironic because here in Brazil it is common for neither of those two scenarios THAT you mentioned to happen. That Is because themost people here do not know how to manage your money. In other words... they ca not even control little money they earn during the month with a minimum wage. So when they win a big amount, most of these people simply think only to spend... they spend a good part of this money on frivolous things, and that do not generate income, they think that this money has the sole purpose of paying overdue bills and then "enjoying life", thinking that this money will never run out, after all, this is usually an amount they could never earn in a lifetime of work.

But then... in a few months, all the money "disappears" and they go back to the boring and poor life they had before.

I always remember the FEDEX owner about these topics and it's true that it depends on how they'll make their choice.
And make use of the money that they've won. If it ends up being spent to an investment or business, that's a good use of them money.
But if it ends up to the casino because they've lost it, that's very unwise for them for spending all of it.
It's only them that can determine how they'll be good with how they utilize it and if they want to be successful.

Yes, it's all about how we are going to spend it, and it also depends on our mindset. I guess those guys are business-minded, but in a bad way. We have different goals and dreams when we win the lottery, and I believe most will find themselves enjoying the money first before they materialize their goals.
Well, some would grow their habits or talent using the money. A painter might spend it all on expensive tools for painting, a mechanic might buy a piece of land to become his business place, and a drug user might buy more and sell them and become a drug lord.

Based from varying data, most lottery winners end up exhausting majority of their winnings within the first five (5) years from the time they’ve won. It really shows that your existing habits play a major role in determining how you would handle your resources and the decisions you make along the way.

But many people will just wasting their wins money to buy unnecessary things that they don't needs. They just want to show people in their circles that they are rich person now. They don't think to saving the money for their future but filling their hunger without hesitation.

Without a doubt, the OP correctly noted that a person cannot change under the influence of money. If he was originally a criminal (a drug dealer), then he would use the money he won for criminal activities. While other people used their winnings for creative purposes - the creation of a legitimate business. In other words, the money helped them realize their positive potential. Criminals, on the other hand, cannot improve, and the money they win only increases the scale of their negative aspirations. I heard about that Eric Spiby story and I was so pissed.

It takes luck to win the lottery, not just anyhow luck but grace with it and yet this man decided to use the money to run a drugs operation? From clean money to dirty money without thinking about the consequences, he even dragged his son into the shit hole. I believe that this man is suffering from greed in and out.

There is also a possibility that he was already a drug dealer before he won the lottery,  I expected people like this to quit when God finally opens a way, but instead they decide to tell God in the face that he isn't doing enough. He is a ungrateful human being and now he is going to prison.
