Newbies should be careful; some people pretend to be customer service/support and direct you to a scam/phishing site.

I had a problem yesterday.

I staked altcoin on a website and wanted to withdraw the coin, but got a problem and stuck to withdraw. I am a bit panicked. Then, I went to the official Discord asking my problem in the general chat.

After a while, someone chat me and admit as customer service, He told me if I have a problem with RPC (while connecting to Metamask).
He directed me to the link to connect Metamask to rpcdebugger[.]xyz < this is a scam or phishing site to clean RPC.

At that time, I still wasn't aware, because he acted like customer support. He asked for my wallet address to check my problem, also.

Without suspicion, I went directly to the website and connected it to Metamask, but got an error :

Then I asked him my problem. He told me, if I have connect it manually. I still wasn't aware at that time, and still followed all his instructions.

But, after several steps, I realized that I was being deceived, yes, that website asked me 12 mnemonic seeds.

Yes, whatever the problem is, there is no one in this world ask you to write a mnemonic seed. If there is, it's fix 100% scam or phishing!.

I must encourage you all here, even in panic, you have to still calm down to always think, and be aware of the situation.

My problem was solved after the real customer support told me that they have a problem with the UI.

Impersonators aren't a new scam. The "Won't PM first" label often attached to the names of official support contacts isn't just a visual trend; it's an important reminder that shouldn't be ignored, even in urgent situations. Otherwise, you could potentially suffer greater losses.

Telegram, email scams are a very popular thing these days...am even surprised that these kind of scams have survived this long and btw these aren't usually some random attack.. could be a leaked email list got/bought dubiously and trying to gain unauthorized access to users coin's... But if you have been in these markets long enough, you will see it a mile away because such domains are a red flag and if you didn't make an enquiry or interact with such a service then it's a red flag !!!!

Thanks for the advice  OP Cool

That's really weird. Do you get no replies on the general Discord/support chat at all? As far as I'm aware, most "legit" projects usually put their support channels on pinned messages. It should be easy to verify whether you're talking to the right account or not. If the response is slow, then that's another problem. Luckily, you realize it sooner.

Thank you for sharing your experience, which might help newbies if they also encounter the same issue.
Telegram and Discord are the houses of scammers, they're waiting there to deceive people when someone is trying to ask for help.
The best thing that you can do is go to the website directly to avoid a scam.

Anyway, does the website you have used dont have a customer support button option?
Usually, you can find it on the official website.

Could you also tell us the Discord channel, if it’s the official one from the website?

This happened to me alot whenever I faced a problem on a centralised exchange and the only way to fix the problem is by finding the exchange telegram group, the moment I uttered a problem that I am facing in the group and waiting for solutions, many scammers will start pretending to be the real customer representative.

This is nothing new, they will PM you and tell you that they are here to help you, that's where they will drop bad links for you to click on and that is where the scam begins, I was just too smart for such tricky as I have never for once entered such trap, I have blocked so many telegram accounts because of this.

The only way to know the real customer representative is they always had a warning caption behind their name like this

James | We don't PM first.

The real customer representatives will never send you a PM first, you are the only one that can send them PM first, also the solution that should be provided must not have anything to do with you clicking on links, they will ask for your account UID and they will fix the problem, that's all.

Good to know that you already stepped backward after you seen that this requires now your seed phrase because at that stage once a newbie puts their seed right there its all gone with your asset.
Always secure your seed phrase. Most wallets that require a connection just need approval. Currently, most wallets connected to the web are requesting permission to connect due to their backend configuration and not asking for a seed phrase.
This is the reason why most of the discord server before entering to their channel they do recommend to turn off the feature of someone can DM you unless you open a ticket directly.

This is true. Real customer care representatives will never PM you first. Most times, they have the warning "I WILL NEVER PM YOU FIRST" boldly written after their names. Sadly, even with the warning, people still get scammed. I've seen it happen many times even when their reps wear the warning on their names. People need to be careful and watch out for impersonators whenever they lodge a complaint in a group chat like Telegram or Discord.

This is an old tactic by scammers; there are many of them on Telegram.
Did the admin on the Discord not warn you that customer support or the admin does not PM unless you PM them first?

I don't entertain anyone who PMs on Telegram or even on Discord unless I PM them. I hope anyone here does the same as me to avoid traps, or you might end up losing coins by giving the seed to a random person.
Luckily OP didn't enter the seed phrase and immediately realize that he was deceived.

@OP, have you solved your problem?
I think they have technical support on the Discord. I am not sure what coins you are talking about, but your issue might be because you have no Ethereum balance. You can't transfer any token if you don't have at least enough ETH to cover the transaction or gas fees.

Most of the scams are DM, PM once they started doing this its obvious that its a scam, don't trust this people they will pretend to help you from the start but in the end they are just trying their best to gain your trust and after that the scamming starts, if they are asking personal information etc., its already shady.
Always be aware of this things so that we can protect are assets, they never ask for keys or passwords if they do that is the no. 1 signs.

In anything we do, we should be careful, especially in uncertainties, we don't have to rush ourself into making direct conclusion about anything, instead we should learn to from the right steps to follow or consult those that are more exposed and experienced more than us to give more directions on how we can go about it, because what we seem not to know cannot be dabble into without having a proper guide on what we should do or expect, many of us needs to be more informed about scam and many routes used to unleashed it.

Newbies should be careful; some people pretend to be customer service/support and direct you to a scam/phishing site.

I had a problem yesterday.

Just recently? Thought one of the most trending online scamming strategies includes when strangers sends you link or anyway connecting your wallet or sending your funds to the other wallet all in the name of claiming to help you as a customer service.
You forgot so soon how we talks about the risk on clicking unfamiliar links in this same session?
Let's also appreciate the fact you weren't victimized otherwise, next time don't click on unverified links. Don't doubt your skepticism at time of securities.

After a while, someone chat me and admit as customer service, He told me if I have a problem with RPC (while connecting to Metamask).
The whole time you said someone chatted you up and you started responding, I held my breath because I know that admins don't DM first. Anyway, I'm glad you didn't allow them cross beyond that into your seed words.

Quote
At that time, I still wasn't aware, because he acted like customer support. He asked for my wallet address to check my problem, also.
I guess the reason for asking for your wallet address was to have an idea of what that address has through onchain investigation. Nothing more. The dude just wanted to know ahead If you had enough in there that would encourage him to pursue further. It was just to find out if the stress would be worth it.

Quote
Yes, whatever the problem is, there is no one in this world ask you to write a mnemonic seed.
This is why it's good for everyone to have what they've resolved not to do, no matter what happens. That was what actually saved you.

In any official Telegram/Discord channel, there are always intruders pretending to be support, usually when there are customers who experience complaints and ask questions in the channel, the quick response is the scammers who immediately send DM first, while the official customers are a little late in responding.

And usually the scammers immediately ask all kinds of questions in the DM including providing a phishing site as one that they help even though they are trapping us.

Yep like you said in this situation you have to be calm, don't panic too much, from this panic you will usually get caught in this fraudster's trap.

After a while, someone chat me and admit as customer service
Firstly, when people have troubles, they must check from a company or project's official website in order to find official customer support channels or community channels.

Next, they will have to join one of these communities and ask for support (if not ask for it in chat support or email support), then the common scam appears. Scammers will proactively contact people as official customer supports but the warning is "Moderators, staffs, admins never contact/ DM you first".

In Telegram, Discord or any other chat support channel/community, if you received DM from someone who claims to be admin, it's impersonator and scammer.
Cryptocurrency scambook.
Quote
social media: scammers could create fake accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or other social media sites and communities in general, masquerading as certain companies(Ledger, Coinbase, Trezor, etc).

fake customer support: this is mostly happening on Reddit and Twitter, but it could happen on all social media sites. Scammers would target people who had made a post concerning issue(s) with certain services(Binance, Ledger Nano S/X hardware wallet, etc) by messaging them and sending them a link to a phishing site or a download link of fraudulent software.

Newbies definitely will fall for that, what we should know is that, no support agent will contact you first via chat.

Anytime you make complaints on public places like social media or telegram groups, who ever contact you unsolicited is a scammer.

Never give them audience otherwise you get hacked you spot them by way the ask3you for sensitive information like wallet seed phrase and the rest.

I must encourage you all here, even in panic, you have to still calm down to always think, and be aware of the situation.

My problem was solved after the real customer support told me that they have a problem with the UI.

They really hunt in real-time, their UI has a problem, they already had sites in place to scam people like you, who were in need of getting support and they used that to their advantage and pretended to be something they are not. So cruel but impressive hehe. I might sound surprised, like I saw this for the first time.

But in your case, you were almost scammed, if they had been that smart, then by clicking on some links on your end, or PC, they would have gained access or might have already. I suggest running some scans and checking if there are any viruses. Because they wait for the right time.

In most Telegram and social media groups, the admins always write that they will not send a DM first. This is true for legitimate projects so the moment you receive a DM from someone claiming to be the admin, you should have known that it is 90% possible that the person is a scammer. You are lucky that the scammer is not too smart else else you wouldn't have gotten the error message while trying to connect to their website and the moment you connect your wallet to the wrong website, your wallet would have been compromised. They don't need your seed phrase to access your wallet, just connecting to their website, you are done.
