This is mind blowing, I wasn't expecting to see this, and I believe that is the first of it's kind in crypto space.

Can you just imagine you have a Bitcoin wallet capable code written by you and you are able to load it up on a hardware wallet that's intented to work this way? I have seen people who are capable of building their own code and that's why I am this surprised that such hardware wallet now exist for such people.

Developers are definitely going to have a load of fun with this hardware wallet called ForgeBox from the maker of keystone.

[

This hardware wallet is fully open source, and it has all the security feature of keystone pro.

ForgeBox is an R&D kit that provides a security foundation but comes with no pre-installed features; it requires the ability to write your own code. Keystone 3 Pro is a ready-to-use hardware wallet with official firmware. If you cannot code, ForgeBox is not for you. Please choose Keystone 3 Pro.

Note

This is not a promotion in any way, I have no connection with keystone team, I am only bringing this to the attention of wallet developers on this forum. For remembering developers they have my respect.

interesting idea, but then again - who says or can verify that said wallet will not have anything attached to it,even though they may tell otherwise?

It's all up to every one of us to secure our custody.. I will go through the details a bit later, nevertheless, thank you for bringing the news, OP.

I saw yesterday that Keystone released this new device, but I don't understand what's the point in this.
It's very similar to standard Keystone device, if not identical, and they are already working with other companies to create custom devices.
I doubt anyone serious would buy this and create their own source code from scratch, especially when there are better alternatives like Seedsigner or Krux.

maybe, just Maybe.. someone will hire devs to code their wallets for them, but then again.. it's too far fetched from the truth, imo.

Just another alternative for those that want it.

It's not the first time; there are many homemade DIY wallets such as Krux, SeedSigner. The advantage of ForgeBox is that it comes with 3 SE chips + PCI Anti-Tamper, in addition to "Only your signed firmware can run," which makes it good for developers. Building code from scratch is something that 99.99% of users cannot do, so I don't expect there to be any sales for this device.
