There is a massive wave of rage going on right now against gambling in Brazil, due to people who can't control themselves and end compromising their entire funds betting. There are cases of people who destroyed their families, commited suicide and so on...

Then, of course politicians want to use that rage on their favour by proposing stricter measures against gambling or even its total ban, what is totally impossible to happen for real.

That is the mindset of the average Brazilian citizen: instead of taking responsability for their own acts and decisions, they blame others for that. In this case, they blame gambling for not knowing how to adopt it in a functional way, while expecting an authority is going to come and solve all their problems, while protecting them from every threats. Many still call the president "dad" Lula.

I support this more stringent verification option, even if it can be not only with one country but with all countries that even legalize gambling they should be able to implement this, because with the current situation that is indeed developing technology makes it easier for anyone to gamble including those who are still underage.
I have a country that prohibits gambling which is against the law, but even so there are still many people who gamble especially with online gambling and not a few minors have done it, this really needs to be fixed.

From what I understand from the article, Barzil basically wants stricter kyc(maybe when registering an account, and it's an age focused kyc) to make sure no minors will be able to fully access the casino. Before this, Brazil had also increased the tax for gambling operators in the country from 12% to 15% by 2028.

Also, a bit more info about the stricter age verification they want to implement, online gambling is not their only target, they also want stricter age verification on websites that offer pornography, escort services, alcohol, dating apps, and weapons

My personal opinion is that if a person isn’t self-sufficient, doesn’t earn their own living to support themselves, and could be a minor victim of fraud, then they shouldn’t be allowed on such platforms. Let me ask a simple question: why, for example, is it not possible in Brazil to get a driver’s license and drive at age 14? A person is already capable of starting a car, turning the steering wheel, and watching for traffic signs-but it’s prohibited?

Casinos have become such a big businesses in markets like this one, that they will continue to make millions of dollars even if they successfully exclude minors from having access to gambling services. That would be the right thing to do.
Kids are supposed to be attending school and studying, not gambling money which may not be even theirs.

The majority of the minors don't have the capacity to generate their own income, so that means they have no significant contributions on the amount of money the casino earns from their clients. This is not something that could hurt the casino, but it needs stricter rules, and the authorities should impose serious legal consequences on those operators who fail to abide by this rule or show any negligence.
Schools and playgrounds are where the kids are supposed to be. They should not be dealing with something that involves money.

I believe you should not underestimate the ability some kids and teens have to get their hands on some money, though.
Some kids are allowed to get some money each week or month, they can decide to spend it on anything they want or save it.

Also, you need to consider how we are pretty much in an era where kids have access to credit card information of their parents, in order to pay for minor stuff, like micro-transactions on games or some small emergencies/inconveniences.

When I was a teen, I always managed to get my hands on money, if I needed it to spend on games.

In the perfect world, that should be the case. But we all know that there are a lot of underage or minor that is trying to get their hands on gambling. Maybe because they thought it's a easy way to make a lot of money. All you have to do is to place a bet.

But the thing is that there are a lot of underage who might have access to big money, like going into their parents and asking for it. But without saying that they are going to use it to gamble. That's why Brazil might be wanting to have this kind of stricter age verification for minor.

Because they don't want this underage to become addicted at an early age.

I consider that 21+ is the age that allow them to gambling. If below on that age, maybe they will difficult to control themselves but that still not guarantee.

Younger generation tend to easily lose control especially to something that makes them lose. They don't want to lose from what they do so they will do more to wins.

But stricter KYC will not guarantee that children are not exposed to online gambling, we see more gambling ads available in social media. The government must monitoring ads on many websites and also tell parents to watch their children.

The government can request to cooperate with app providers to implement stricter regulations so children will not breaks the law.

Well it's a welcome development to help reduce underage or Minor gambling, but the problem about this Minors is that they are Very smart, what if they use another person to verify their KYC, how Will the casino know that they have bypass the KYC? Because I think that is what the Minors will do when they know they can't verify their KYC with their own identity.

It should be cleared on how the government and the platform is going to work this one. I'm also one of those who are concern on not only the identity of the minors, but all gamblers as well.

What if this self-reported programs might be hacked or their is a slipped on handling the data and it went online? The identify of everyone who gambles are going to be exploited if the data goes to the wrong hand?

They can only attempt to do this, but it's effectiveness may not be very much. Some minors have access to their older persons documents and details and it can be used. Others can use the older people device to do all of these when they're away, they can even hypnotize some unethical majors to do the verification for them, e.g a some female minors offering sex to a man to complete verification for them and sure 80% of them would be successful. Some other minors may have to find a way to beat the system with time.

The best way to achieving this is the restriction plus constant campaign to parents to always monitor their children and using parental control on their devices to do their part in curbing unnecessary teenage exposure to adult activities and contents because this is stealing the proper mental development and creativity of these minors from a very young age.

This is the right move and all other countries should follow. Although gambling is not dangerous for most adults, it is very dangerous for minors. Just because of their young age they simply don't know about simple rules they have to follow to avoid gambling addiction. They are most vulnerable and society must do everything to protect them. It's a difficult task to keep children from gambling online, but I hope Brazil will succeed in doing so.

You think casino owners are interested in tightening identity verification measures? No, they certainly don't. If such laws are passed, the customer base will shrink significantly. Teenagers won't be able to access the site, and that's a significant number of players.

Government is fighting with youth addiction from wrong side. When was the last time you were in toys shop? When was the last time you paid attention to items on shelves with board games? Why among all the items, somewhere between chess and checkers, there are often poker sets (often in aluminum suitcase) are located? Why there are play cards always nearby? Why make age restrictions, when toys shops teach kids that they can learn gambling from young age? No wonder minors are familiar with gambling and gamble, if they play poker and blackjack since childhood.

When it comes to those websites then it's a good step to have stricter age verification requirements because teenagers don't really understand difference between good and bad, and all those websites that offer those services can destroy lives of those teenagers. I think in this matter Brazil government is taking a good step to have stricter age verification on those websites, but again one can easily avoid most of those restrictions using a VPN service so what's use of those restrictions?
